Keir did say he would go hard on people he labelled as right wing. He may have meant the actual right wing but maybe some of those people initially protesting weren't right wing.
I suspect the right wing he was referring to were those involved in violence

He also made a very specific point about people outside of the area travelling to Southport to cause disruption

Nigel Farage disgracefully shared false information about the perpetrator at the very start of this mayhem.
If Police officers are to be held to a higher standard, then MPs should be too.
He woefully failed in that regard.

I agree that's what he was referring to but there will be people who aren't right wing involved and may have been misunderstood and been offended by what he said. As in he's labelled everyone involved as right wing. Who knows 🤷🏼‍♀️

Those involved who aren’t right wing and who didn’t take part in destruction and terror, will understand who he meant. It’s usually right wingers and racist who react offended at being called as such (since they’re all just „concerned citizens“ - I live in Germany, I’m hearing that rhetoric every single day)

I’m assuming this is the speech we are referencing

Where has he labelled everyone involved as right wing?

I didn't say he labelled everyone as right wing. I've only seen what's been shown on the news. He said he would come down hard on right wing. I said maybe he's angered others and they think he's labelled everyone involved as right wing.

Oh no the people who went attacking mosques and random shops are upset they’ve been called right wing or right wing influenced :( they’re just concerned local people don’t you know?

(of course ignoring that he makes a point about it being driven by “far right hatred” specifically but we struggle to read or understand so oh noooo :( )

give me a break

So there’s supposedly a “peaceful protest” being held in Middlesbrough today for the girls who were killed, but when you look at the person who has organised its profile- they’ve been sharing a lot of racist rhetoric 🙄 he’s a big fan of Tommy Robinson and shares a lot of the posts of places getting smashed up, cars being set of fire etc and that “white men need to take back our country” 🙃
Absolutely ridiculous. They just write “peaceful protests” so they can’t be held accountable.

they want to stop ANYONE coming in. I bet Alice Dasilva Aguiar’s mother wishes they hadn’t moved here either - then her baby may still be alive.

I'm sure there will be a temporary meet up place in a community hall or somewhere
At this stage I think you're just a troll.

You said about the Citizens Advice Bureau being burnt down they'll just go to another building and now this Library has been burnt down they'll just go to a community hall. You have absolutely no idea about that library. It was a beacon in an otherwise very deprived area and used by adults and kids alike for all sorts of things.

I am absolutely fuming about that library being burnt. Absolute c***s. 🤬 🤬 🤬

I struggle to read and understand? Absolutely not. I don't agree with the protests/riots. Just saying there will be people out there that will see what he says as offensive. Blocking them from moving around etc will just rile them up

There were people here yesterday saying a teacher shouldn't have the right to attend a peaceful protest because they felt strongly about government cuts etc.

If the protest turns violent they should of course leave but we live in a free society where we are allowed (for the time being) to think what we think. Denying people the right to protest is fascist.

But I want to be clear and for this not to be misconstrued, I do not support rioting, I do not support racial abuse, I have said from the beginning that ethnic minorities are being used as a scapegoat in all this and the anger of these rioters is severely misplaced.

Reading this, I think some of the anger may be coming from online keyboard warriors who feel attacked and think their Facebook fun may be taken away.

Also we are talking about convicted rioters having freedoms restricted. I don’t think people generally object to convicted football hooligans being restricted in this way. I don’t really see much difference tbh

I think we both know that they’d get offended at anything said that disagrees with them

These aren’t everyday normal people that are being discussed here who showed up to protests thinking it would be peaceful and left the moment it all turned a bit too violent for them or didn’t follow some group down to the local mosque, library or shop to smash some windows

He makes specific references to the far right groups moving around the country to start these things. A thing they do commonly - anyone remember the riots outside that asylum hotel last year (I think?)? Far right was linked to that too and had handed out leaflets to start that mess

He also makes reference to thugs who have joined into these protests influenced by those far right groups. If they start going to the next city or few over to join into protests that aren’t peaceful then perhaps we should be concerned

I’m sure the conspiracy crowd will also get a bit upset about some of that too but that’s hardly surprising

Fuming about the library but not about TCAB

And I was looking at the positive side saying they can use another building

Last I saw it was one person with one opinion that didn’t seem to be very popular

Denying people the right to protest is fascist.
Clearly targeting the people who start these protests with the intention that they’ll turn violent and who have a history of doing this or are involved in groups who do

You’re playing into an awful lot of the normal talking points that downplay what is happening despite your constant insistence that you’re just being misconstrued

It’s hard to know what’s true and what’s not with everything that’s going on. Of course misinformation is going to be spread but it’s hard not to automatically believe that vicious attacks are happening on people all across the country when we’re all witnessing these riots first hand. In other news, I can’t believe these poor girls who have been killed and the girls who have been injured have been put on a complete back burner, they’ve hardly been mentioned atall since it happened 😢
Re the survivors, whilst they should not be forgotten, it may be a good thing they are not being reported on. They are very young minors still, the families may want to protect them plus it stops them from having to read back on themselves in years to come.

He was arrested and charged earlier this year for having a weapon, and apparently arrested again last night 🙃

I know people in our local police and they are stretched to duck so this will just be another drain on our barebone facilities in the area. My anxiety is through the roof, I’m pregnant with our first child and it’s hard to switch off from all of this - I can’t imagine being a parent of one of those innocent kids and seeing all of this happening “in the name of the victims” 😭

I remember reading a while back that MI5 think the biggest terrorist todays comes from far right groups rather than Islamist extremism. The government will have intel on this.

So lawyers involved in defending those involved in the 2011 riots are pointing out that justice was delivered in a harsh and swift way on even minor perpetrators, and to expect the same here. Those pro the current riots are saying as prisons are full this won’t happen this time. Who’s right here and have the 2024 rioters been emboldened by the fact the criminal justice system has been widely reported as being on its knees?
They may have good intentions to make sure those involved will be punished. I read that they were moving prisoners, to make room in prisons within the affected areas, but there will still be a capacity issue.
Plus this is much bigger and wider than the 2011 riots from what I can remember so god knows how many people need/will be arrested and prosecuted.
