It’s hard to know what’s true and what’s not with everything that’s going on. Of course misinformation is going to be spread but it’s hard not to automatically believe that vicious attacks are happening on people all across the country when we’re all witnessing these riots first hand. In other news, I can’t believe these poor girls who have been killed and the girls who have been injured have been put on a complete back burner, they’ve hardly been mentioned atall since it happened 😢
Not a surprise really, after all the men rioting will be likely going home and beating up their partners, right wing racist thugs don’t care about women, they’re just a household applicance to have sex with.

So lawyers involved in defending those involved in the 2011 riots are pointing out that justice was delivered in a harsh and swift way on even minor perpetrators, and to expect the same here. Those pro the current riots are saying as prisons are full this won’t happen this time. Who’s right here and have the 2024 rioters been emboldened by the fact the criminal justice system has been widely reported as being on its knees?

I had a quick look on twitter and I see the Hope Not Hate guy shared the thing about the acid attacks, is that who you mean? I think it's unfortunately all too believable, especially in the chaos of the moment, I don't think people are sharing it for nefarious reasons. Of course it will be jumped on by right wing accounts who themselves have been *knowingly* and *deliberately* spreading misinfo for the past week.
I'm not ignoring you but I feel like I just completely derailed the thread and I don't want to continue to do so. I had a point but I inelegantly used "left" in my description when in reality it's just opportunists who deliberately spreading misinformation to continue to keep emotions high and to keep the violence going and also, to get likes and follows on social media and grow their followings 🤪. It's just blatant manipulation of horrific circumstances.
---
This just shows what bleeping idiots these rioters are! To destroy their own facilities! Now tell me it’s not just an excuse for mindless violence and destruction!
They probably aren't even from the are so it probably doesn't even affect them 🤬

A library is a church. Knowledge is freedom. Community space is liberty.
I wish I could "love" this more 🩷🩷🩷

This is such a symbolic destruction, it makes my heart heavy because of the wider implications for the community. Done by people who really could have done with reading a book or two in their lives.

Okay, I do not have the time and energy to do all that for you. Look at Twitter/x. I'm sure you will soon find unverified videos from different events claiming to be from this one and stories that have not been confirmed as true but because it's a good story and fits the narrative that's trending at the moment people will just engage with it, like it, share it.

It's treating word of mouth as fact. It's just as stupid when it's people claiming that the family were responsible for the genocide in Rwanda.

If a woman has had a substance thrown over her, that's absolutely barbaric. Even if it's not acid it doesn't take away from the fear for the women and I hope she does know that it is still assault and that she does report it.

Again, this is a male violence issue.

Adding this to show I don't like misinformation full stop, no matter who is perpetrating it.

I didn't share that because I was addressing the implication of me only caring about misinformation coming from one angle and I wanted to make it clear that it was from either viewpoint I had a problem with it BUT I am actually sorry for sharing that, I should have at least blacked out your name and the post number on it. So sincerely, I am sorry for doing that. I wasn't trying to have another dig at you I was trying to defend myself but inadvertently threw you under the bus with me as well.

I'm sorry. I accepted that you weren't stating it as fact and I didn't mean to make it appear that I hadn't.

The people who did that probably can’t even read so won’t understand why libraries are so important 🙄
They can read enough tweets spreading misinformation. Or maybe they just listen to voicemails in their nasty WhatsApp groups, so you might be on to something:(

I notice that bleep Farage is suspiciously quiet as well. He’s the person who stirred the pot and helped cause all of this, should be in bleeping arrested for inciting hatred.

Even the fact he hasn't asked people to stop when he actually has the power to get some of them to listen is insane to me. 😱

That would involve him directly

It’s better to come out after it’s all settled down and say that it was just very concerned local people and it shows that the government policy is bad

I don't know how you could potentially have the power to stop libraries and police stations being burned, people being physically assaulted, terrorised, and potentially killed and do nothing to stop it 😢

I can’t work out if its because he wanted it to happen, or bevasue he’s tit scared of the repercussions
Maybe both!

We'd rather blame Russians or Iranians than face up to the rot in our own political class

How absolutely utterly stupid is that!?? The Russians and Iranians don't have to do tit! What a cop out. This tells me they have no intention of trying to fix what caused this.

They’re all just pissed off that we’ve now got a moderate centre left government with a massive majority who won’t bow down to racists.
