Welsh isn’t a hotch potch, that’s why it sounds so strange to other language speakers.

Im not denying that the immigrants in the windrush generation and others had to face racism, that’s kind of the whole point I’m making about racism. It’s not really a response to immigration, it’s rather a response by some people who need someone to hate and will look for any convenient reason that doesn’t mean they need to question themselves.
Well you see this narrative that Britain has “always been a land that welcomed immigrants” has been used to shame and silence those of us who are concerned about the current record levels. Yet it’s so contrary to everything I’ve ever understood about actual history. It’s refreshing to engage with someone who’s willing to discuss this so I wonder can you show me the source of your belief so I can educate myself?

The Imam giving out burger and chips, inviting anyone in the community with questions and concerns to come have a chat- That is what we need!
Sounds like radicalisation to me and my very concerned working class friends bestie x

Have we proof where Mr Tayto was born? 😉 (I'll behave now)

The police I feel for in all of this, one side or the other.
Lads, let's all get together and shout Takbeer...what will it achieve? The Imam giving out burger and chips, inviting anyone in the community with questions and concerns to come have a chat- That is what we need!

It does seem more and more people are fed up with the governments and the failed decisions, we have seen it in Italy, France and other countries. Add in the pandemic and economic/financial crisis and we get headlines about tinderbox Britain...every person has a tale of someone they know or themselves failed by the system.

I have a White Muslim parent and a white Muslim husband...they are both upset with all this, just need to work out which side to send them to 😉
Actually there’s two Mr Tayto’s it’s a very continuous issue here as to which is the best 😂 even a spud isn’t safe.

I see several of the papers are running with articles linking the riots to wider social issues

Yeah definitely more mediation, violence doesn’t achieve anything.

Funny how people's "concerns" just boil down to coming out with racist rit.

There’s visa routes for economic migrants, you can’t claim asylum for economic reasons.
---

These weren’t agency staff they were straight off the boat as the article stated.
Nor can you claim asylum before you arrive if you are fleeing war or political or religious persecution.

I am going to leave this topic here now, but I still don’t know what the issue of immigration, illegal or otherwise, nor asylum seeking has to do with the innocent girls and their poor families apart from the fact that the usual grifters have used the issue of race to influence a small, hateful and not very bright percentage of the population, who are nothing but rum, into violence and disorder.

I don’t believe that I said welcomed immigration I thought I said encouraged immigration but if I did write welcomed then hands up, that was not my intent and a mistake. I don’t have a personal problem with it however.

I‘m not a moderator, nor would I ever moderate anyone’s post here, not my place. If I feel strongly about an individual‘s posts I just put on ignore or don’t engage. I would encourage people to do the same with me.

I don’t want to put people on ignore? I’ve no issue with replying to anyone 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m just pointing out it was others that raised the point of asylum seekers not me.

Fair enough, I have only engaged in the thread today, still not sure what asylum seekers have to do with those poor children and no one else here has been able to tell me.

The whole thing is just a tragedy, it’s the people who are exploiting it I am really furious at, no one here.

My eldest son lives in Manchester. He’s 34.

He was born in Newcastle but we moved down to Manchester when he was 8. His Dad is from Singapore and he has his skin colouring. I have told him to stay indoors today. What has this world come to. He is British through and through, has lived his whole life here. Today (every day I suppose, but particularly today) he risks getting beaten to a pulp in his home city because he looks like a ‘Paki’.

*edit to add that even if he was an immigrant it wouldn’t make it any worse, but hopefully people understand what I mean!
I understand what you meant. I'm in Glasgow and I keep thinking in opposite directions from the city centre there's a mosque and a gurdwara. I imagine the mosque would be heavily protected as there's plenty of young Muslims in Glasgow who would also have the support of many Glaswegians. The gurdwara is much quieter and there's a smaller number of Sikhs here, so I'm worried about them more. Neither place of worship is ok to attack but isn't it awful we're at the stage of calculations of which group is most vulnerable.

Incidentally, plenty of issues in Glasgow. Sectarianism, poverty, unionism/nationalism. Libraries and swimming pools closing, women and girls being murdered in public parks. No one gives enough of a duck to protest these issues...

Idk ? Maybe because his parents were asylum seekers?? Or that people don’t want hundreds of men placed in their communities, near schools etc? It could be that deprived areas are taking the majority of those claiming asylum putting strain on limited resources? It could be any number of things.

It’s a myth that immigrants get any benefits. If you believe that they do you really need to go and read a book or something.
I've never held any of the outrageous opinions I've read on this thread today but I'll admit at one point I was ignorant in that I didn't know much about the restrictions immigrants were placed under, how they are 'prioritised' for housing (they aren't - they take the flats British Citizens reject), etc. Honestly, people need to educate themselves. The information is easily found if you take an interest.

A lot of people on this thread are just very unpleasant people and it's upsetting to see that next to what's going on in these riots.
It really is deeply unpleasant. I'm not shocked easily and I'm not even sure shocked is the right word but to be honest I'm almost lost for words at some of it.

This makes me feel physically sick!! I had a lump in my throat watching it. But oh my goodness...fair play to that man for getting back up and giving as much as he got from multiple people.
This is the thing - they're just cowards. Only act the hard man in numbers.

Only when they’re granted asylum , they’re entitled to the same benefits as citizens when granted refugee status they can claim certain benefits like school uniforms free school meals whilst their claim for asylum is processed..Even though polygamy is against the law in this country they can claim for each successive wife as a dependent.

I knew that his parents had come here from Rwanda but I didn’t read that they were asylum seekers? Where is that from please? I thought they had legally migrated here but can’t be definite on that. It would seem quite ironic considering that the government has stated it is a safe country.
It seems that what you are saying is that these rioters are not concerned with these children at all, which I think we all know; lots of things have pissed me off over the many years I’ve been on this planet, primarily hideous misogynistic violence, but I would never consider going out assaulting police officers and terrifying the public.

Whilst still in the asylum system? It may be different in the rest of UK but where I am the HO takes over the lease of the property from the private landlord or business, it’s only used for asylum seekers not the general public.
No, they’ve either come in on a lorry undetected or have been detected off a boat and then disappear.
They have to pay the smuggler back so are housed, paying the landlord, while their work pays the smuggler, eventually paying their debt and making their own money. Which is the goal. I’m not dissing the people who want to work, although I am dissing those who exploit them.
Builders get asked to do lots of things by lots of people.
