I live in Southport. And the whole thing is deeply upsetting and heartbreaking. These violent thugs had no right to riot and destroy a part of this town how they did, they seen the smallest opportunity to be racist and took it. The families of these beautiful little girls are grieving and shouldn’t have this on their doorstep. Just an hour after the community came together for a vigil as well. It’s disgusting

Of course not. But they could have just said that they thought it was a minor and that would be the end of it.

Certain people needed all the details and when those details didn’t come they filled in the blanks by saying his name is Ali Apartment, he’s Muslim, arrived illegally by boat last year, he’s on an MI6 watch list

It was reported by the authorities almost immediately that a male had been detained and that he was 17. Nothing more than that. They can’t also immediately go “and he was/was not brown and he was/was not Muslim” - do you realise the backlash that would also cause? Especially if it turned out not to be correct. Within hours there was false information and a false name being spread online which is what fuelled THIS race-fuelled rioting. That’s the people of this country’s doing, not the police. It’s nothing more than a repugnant desire to be vindicated and an attempt to politicise a tragedy to suit an agenda of racial profile. People are bleeping weird.

Yeah, I do see your points on this completely. They are in a no win situation but when the false name started coming out perhaps they could have stamped that out with a statement straight away to avoid the rumour mill.

Obviously it is a few days ago now but I thought the bit about him being 17 only came up hours later, they had mentioned capturing/apprehending or whatever the word is the suspect but I didn’t think age was mentioned at that time. Then the rumour mill started.

They shouldn’t have to be the ones cleaning it up, I mean, those riots shouldn’t have even happened in the first place. But, seeing decent people caring about their community and pitching together to get things straight again is heartwarming.

Instead of showing the riot footage over and over, show more of this. Inspire the goodness in society.

Sorry, I went all a bit Mr Rogers, but it’s true. There’s always helpers to be found. Kindness will never be destroyed by hate.

Added to their general chavvy distrust of the police and other authority groups, it all of course becomes a huge conspiracy. They aren't being told the truth. The police, the government are hiding something. Nothing will change their opinion. What Dazza read on the internet is now fixed in their minds and they don't have the mental capacity to seek out the actual truth behind the fake stories.

I agree but the bigger issue is that they're being manipulated by hostile forces. They're the foot soldiers, we have to look at the generals.

That's the thing, I'm not trying to absolve these people of guilt but I think it's worth trying to understand how we ended up here rather than just blaming them for being idiots. I mean they are like but there is more going on. Agent provocateurs etc.
