I feel I have to reply to this, I decided to home educate my child during the first lockdown and it’s been absolutely amazing, my child is absolutely thriving and learning and socialising far more than they did at school.
I believe based on the home education groups I’m a member of that many people have had the same experience. I really resent the current political narrative that children who are home educated and registered with the local authority are somehow in the same bracket as missing or abused children.
I am in no way defending Sophie with this post btw.

Some local authorities have CME or “Child Missing Education” teams to check up on the children who haven’t gone back to school though as you can imagine the magnitude of children who aren’t in school particularly at secondary school age is huge.
unfortunately as the adult with parental responsibility she has the right to take both children out of school and if she has registered both with her LA as being home schooled its unlikely anyone will be in touch unless concerns are raised
To me it doesn’t seem like either of the girls are receiving the education they deserve and it’s a real shame they will likely grow up seeing SMDs lifestyle as the only option they have
