I was made redundant from my work in July.....but was headhunted for a better job paying almost double at a highly regarded company. Start in a couple of weeks when I come off maternity leave and looking forward to it!! The £12k redundancy payout went down a treat too!!
So now after worrying about living as a family of 4 on one income we now have a better chance to move to a bigger place and stay in the local area, in the near future.

Thought I’d do a thread on positive things that have come out of being in lockdown. For me personally I was a bit of a gambler, when they closed the pubs and clubs for over 3 months it really made me sit back and reassess why I was gambling and other things I could be doing with my money and time. They’ve been back open now for months and I haven’t gone gambling once and I’ve saved so much money.

I’ve got fit. I completed the couch to 5k program, which blows my mind as I’ve never been able to run. After completing that I now also do hiit circuits 6 days a week and walk at least an hour a day.

Probably not as positive as other peoples achievements but I stopped biting my nails completely after 2 decades. Mainly because I read someone got COVID 19 from biting their NAILS and with my health anxiety, boy did that prompt me to stop.

But also, I have chewed my nails right down to their nail beds for 20 years. No idea what triggered me to bite my nails, but they was so bad. My confidence hit rock bottom when they was at that stage where they just constantly kept bleeding and I suffered from many infections with yellow pus (sorry tmi but luckily didn't get septic from it)!

It's been since March I've stopped and I'm just amazed how different my hands look lol they no longer look stumpy! They don't grow as long as I would like them but they are growing and quite strong as I use nail hardener.

I finished chemo, and had time to get used to my post surgery, post chemo body without having friends and relatives constantly tell me I look well, tired, thin, bloated from steroids, suit a bald head. I know they mostly ment well but a break from the never ending comments regarding how I look has been nice. And I passed my degree after 4 years of working full time and fitting in studying with the open uni

I’ve started to really enjoy my own company and I realised I don’t actually have to make time for people I don’t like... Before lockdown I would go for dinner with someone I didn’t like, dread it beforehand and then during the dinner count down the hours until it was over. Now... I’m being far more picky with my time and who I spend it with.

Got dumped at the start of lockdown, then I started chatting to a guy I used to fancy at work 7 years ago and we are now an item 🥰

I’ve decorated my lounge, little girl’s room and garden. So while I haven’t saved money, I have been able to afford things that I never would’ve been able to before. (My childcare bill is a 3rd of my monthly pay!)

I have saved money - not as much as I could have, as I developed a horrendous wine and takeaway habit during lockdown. I would usually spend a lot of money eating out with friends, something that I cannot afford to return to. It became the norm to go for a meal, and nice wine bars to socialise - but it is ridiculously expensive, we have realised that we can spend the money on much better things (including trying to get ourselves debt free).

I wish I was one of those who got fit during lockdown - quite the opposite. I have worked throughout, but my job involves a lot of sitting down, and I was allowed to do some of my admin from home.
I now have to address the weight I have gained (I was fat to start with). I started the Cambridge diet yesterday. I lost 3 stone on this diet (fairly quickly) ten years ago. I managed to keep it off for about six years (just by being fairly active and eating sensibly), and then returned to my old ways.
I am doing what they used to call “sole source” three meal replacement products, and plenty of water spaced out over the day. I am seeing this as deserved punishment for my lockdown gluttony.
The diet is only a quick fix, as it really helped me shift the initial bulk - quite quickly last time. It’s not sensible in the longer term, but I need quick results initially, to motivate me to get healthy / fit.

I’ve definitely learnt to enjoy my own company too. Before lockdown I couldn’t enjoy just being at home doing nothing.
