I've never heard of Da Tito, not sure I'd want to eat there after seeing that sign...
But hey, it works if you're "anti-woke"...
Emilio seems like the type of person who would like that type of place. He’s always given off those vibes.

Sorry for post bombing. I'm screaming😂 Kacie is at a vino sfuso place and in AWFUL Italian +accent says "no abbiamo negli Stati Uniti ed è molto interessante per me." And the guy says "Come? Non ho capito..." and then it cuts off. 🙈
I am constantly surprised that language apps and that friend of hers with the lessons sponsor her, do they not watch her content?! She really doesn't know basics, and wasn't (isn't) she in a physical school there also for her visa?

The dog show thing with sofie is so random!
---
And now she's just casually sipping an overpriced iced coffee and working at the Atrium bar at The Four Seasons. 😅 Totally relatable.
Madness, was this sponsored?

Omg, all Kacie is doing are ads now. The latest is for plants? And why has she taken on an OTT goofy theatre kid personality for it?

I'm so bored of the Sunday Riley shilling from Sofie. If this is really what the majority of her content is going to be, I might unfollow.

I also find it weird both seem to have no other friends apart from other "Influuuuencuuuurs." Always Danae Mercer in the mix, or Sofie films hanging out with a few other YouTubers/smaller IG women or people she does business with for SR. Zzzzzzzzz

“Take an online course or masterclass”

So we should expect Shayna to be announcing a ‘gut health in Italy’ masterclass that costs €2000 sometime this year.
---
It’s funny you mention Riviera, she popped up on my TikTok feed recently and I knew she looked familiar - then I remembered she had a YouTube channel talking about how she moved to Italy. I was surprised to see she was no longer with her Italian guy.

Elisa and I used to chat every so often when I lived in Italy for a year. I appreciated her being a shoulder to cry on when I was struggling with some culture shock and language barrier stuff. I haven’t kept up with her other than I would sporadically see her talking about work on Instagram. I think she was in a short film of some kind a couple of years ago and maybe she did voiceover work?? Not sure.

I am not familiar with the Sara(h) you mentioned. And I remember when Abbie went quiet on social media for a long time and popped back up in Portugal.

What about Anastasiya (ex friend/roommate of Zoey)? after Zoey left Italy I think A was trying to create a fashion line (“I am Tassana Laapey” it was called) and she made a bunch of videos on traveling to Italy post-lockdown. I think her new channel is called Stay Fabulous. She did a live a year or so ago and she conveniently ignored my question about how she lives in Italy on an American passport. I’m pretty sure she was Schengen overstaying for a while.
---
LMAO ok, so I was watching this more recent video on A’s channel and I’m dying laughing

at 4 minutes in the chef talks about this gargantuan mozzarella “Zizzona di Battipaglia” (which is a registered trademark) and Anastasiya just repeats “zizzona” seemingly like she has no idea that it means giant tit… then brags about being in Italy for a decade 🤣
---
I’m willing to bet that Anastasiya is a “hobosexual” - she latches on to a partner so she has a place to live. I don’t know how else she can afford to live in Rome. Her and Zoey shared a bed in a one bedroom apartment in the centro storico because they couldn’t afford anything else (and even that was expensive).
---
Sorry, I mean they couldn’t afford more than a 1 bedroom in the center of Rome and they certainly wouldn’t have settled for anything less than their “manifested” dream apartment
Anastasiya was always so weird, I wonder what happened between her and Zoey in late 2019 that caused them to end their friendship. At that point Zoey was living in Canada for awhile.

Mother flew in to babysit on their couple's vacation. Then she had an "invited/comped" mini vacation with Emilio and Kaia in another place. She also said MAHA mom was flying in again shortly for a visit and to help out (probably a family vacation).

Really tough going, there! I think on TikTok she posted how she's not invited to as many cool events bc she's a mother. Or maybe she's just not out and about and networking as hard as before? Maybe the Florence Influencer set has moved on to newer people? 🤷🏼

She does a lot of whining for someone who still has a cushy life and someone who knew what her husband's job was before they decided to procreate.

The only way you can watch it is through Daily Wire plus so she’s actively going to propaganda accounts to watch this. Not a good look.
Right! I hope she got dinged by many replies calling her out over this. I mean...this isn't just conservative. CO and The Daily Wire are Qnut Insurrectionist territory. I'm embarrassed for her. And now it makes sooooo much sense why she was supporting those Casa Pound led cvid "protests" around Italy.

New Sofie vlog, haven’t seen it all the way through but she’s been “gifted” a night stay at the Four Season’s Palazzo Della Gherardesca. And she’s crying 😢
God I'm so sick of influencers crying on camera, especially people like her who have an objectively very good life. Not saying money means you don't have problems but imo if you have the inclination to film yourself crying you're not really that upset

There's an Italian woman working for SR France and by the dates of "France and Italy" looks like she filled in for Sofie maybe for a large part of her leave. This person went on to a larger scale job in the company. Maybe they folded Sof's job into that?

Edit: I should have written they sent Sofie, since she was already with SR in TX.

Is that the one who always used to shot when she spoke? Ahe seemed fine but her way of speaking was like nails on a backboard for me
Yes, that's her. Quirky Katie lol

I always thought Anastasiya was Czech. Lol. I always skipped her in vlogs bc she was always loud and annoying.

Years ago expat pages were so much more "pure." Now most start out rich (like Shayna) and/or are just greedy promoters looking for freebies and the monthly payments.

Im glad you asked @emm because I meant to bring this up a while ago. She's on a study visa, but only 6 months validity at a time. So she's always at the Questura. It made me wonder if she will soon announce she and Dario are getting married since you can only renew a few times for the same program. I can't see her trying to convert to an autonomous work visa because that seems too complicated for her. 🫠

I literally "Lol" at your comment about nobody asking! 😂

She really has her dad on a pedestal. Ick. Who wanted to see this? 🤣 Her brother is tagged in the comments. Looking at his page he is SUCH a Jersey Shore+Sopranos style "Guido." Lol

Wasn't sure where to post this, but by "popular demand...." :ROFLMAO: on the Kylie Flavell thread

Not sure even what to put in the summary, an american living in Florence, lots of non disclosure of ads, crying videos of how hard it is to be an expect (whose instinct when crying isn't to film themselves?) etc...
What else?

I like that Sofie speaks quite well, even picking up her husband/his family's calabrese accent more or less. Though she can sometimes be a bit vulgar, which always takes me by surprise lol. I curse in my daily life, but I wouldn't do it on a public platform lol.
Yeh and you can see she is making an effort to improve as well when she corrects herself on things like the subjunctive etc. I really wonder how kacie manages wheb they are wjth a groupnof his italian friends or family? What annoys me most about people not bothering to learn the local language to at least a good degree is it usually tends to be native English speakers, in my experience anyway and just adds to the embarassinf sense of "well everyone speaks English anyway why should I learn" that so many people say

Well I guess Stokke didn't GAF who Sofie was! 🤣🤣🤣 (The crib fiasco or whatever it was)
I don’t get how they couldn't just agree on a day and time for the cribs to be picked up and someone to help her carry them down.
Something was weird about that whole situation.
---
I’m sure Stokke cared a lot that thousands of euros of merchandise was sitting in a random person’s home.

Her vowel sounds are off and she doesn’t try to emulate an Italian pronunciation.
“Ho ventenove ani ma il mio compleanno è il primo diciembre” (before she tries to say “dicembre” she had to think to remember her script and still got it wrong).

I’d say that she needs to stop with this facade that she can actually speak Italian like this off the cuff, but I think it’s too late now and it would be a bad look for her language sponsors.
---
“Cinqui ani fa e la prima note… Dario era lì e siamo incatrati”

She also doesn’t make an effort to roll her R’s. Granted that is a hard to learn skill but it makes the accent very strong. “Palelò” vs. Parlerò

1. Maybe it’s just me because I still tend to mask up in most public spaces where most people around me do not, but I think it is disrespectful mot to mask up in a taxi.

2. Don’t act like you’ve never been stinky in/on public transport before or been exposed to someone else’s funk. I’m sure there was a time before renting taxis 24/7 that you were either part of the problem or you’ve deal with it before.

3. She probably pays more in taxis than I do in gas in a month 🙄 and she is in Florence.

Thanks @emm for making this thread, I felt like I was annoying folks whenever I mentioned Sofie in the Kylie thread 😅

Back during her Rome phase (I think 2016 to 2019), I enjoyed watching Sofie as a counterbalance to her friend Zoey Arielle (who also has a thread here), since Zoey was incredibly ditzy and annoying in the way she misrepresented Italy as a perfect place - and not to mention her butchering of Italian at every opportunity to sound sophisticated. Sofie was "keeping it real", at least to an extent. She seemed to live pretty humbly, talked about the struggles of working in Italy as a foreigner, didn't pretend like Italy was a fairytale.

Sofie at least has some self-awareness about being an "influencer" and about how she portrays her life through the lens of social media. In the past she's made several posts and videos talking about her insecurities, sharing photos/videos of her face and body unfiltered, and saying she doesn't want her audience to compare their lives to hers or to feel inferior. A few months back she reposted something on Instagram stories to the effect of: "kids these days and their technology!".

But if she truly believed that, would she share as much of her life as she does? Does she say that just to excuse herself? I just find it odd that she tries to relate by saying "I get bloated too, my life isn't perfect, don't believe what you see on social media" when it is her literal job in PR/marketing to use social media to persuade people into buying Sunday Riley's products (which, sorry to say, still preys on women's insecurities no matter how green or hip your branding is), to make things "aesthetic" and picture-perfect. Since she's been in Florence, it's been nothing but vacations, spa trips, meals out, classy events with SR... with the occasional complaint about bureaucracy and crying about being away from family. I've found her less and less relatable in the last few years.

She moved back to Houston in 2019 because, I believe, they were starting to feel the strain of Italy's economic situation. She said they wanted to be able to raise a family in the US because it's much more stable. After their little flat in Rome, I was incredibly surprised to see them moving into (what looked like) a brand-new townhome in one of the country's biggest cities. I can't imagine going from a shabby little place in Rome with moths in the cupboards to a whole-ass townhome, especially after talking about how poorly she was paid teaching English.

Out of nowhere there was a wholly furnished townhome, $200 Smeg toaster and all, even before landing her job at SR. During the height of the pandemic, she clearly wasn't hurting financially because she was constantly shopping at Whole Foods (even making an entire video out of her $400 grocery haul) on seemingly one income - her husband didn't get his real estate license until August 2020.

Screenshot 2023-01-22 at 12.23.57.png

Fast forward to February 2022, they've survived the pandemic well enough to be able to pack up their entire lives to move to Florence, where they decide to start from scratch in an apartment that doesn't even have an installed kitchen. Sure, they were really "roughing it" on their nice inflatable couch and with no overhead lighting, but this isn't even their forever home and they have had to drop so much money on a customized kitchen that they probably can't even take with them when they move.

I'm not mad at her for having money, but let's be real. She does not come from anything less than an upper middle class background, and she clearly has had help along the way. She boasts a great amount of privilege, without which her life wouldn't be the way we see it online. Even down to receiving dual citizenship and initially moving to Italy to go to language school, these things cost A LOT (see: Zoey Arielle wasting thousands of dollars on her student visa but still cannot string a sentence together in Italian). It would just be nice for influencers to be more transparent about this kind of stuff.

By the way, Kacie Rose seems like the worst kind of expat, but maybe I'm just bitter because she never responded to me years ago when I reached out to her asking advice about US visas for Italians. She seems like an opportunist, trying to capitalize off the SM expat trend, and only wants to be around other influential people. If you make content about being an expat, I'd think you would be willing to help others on their expat journey, no? Or is that asking too much?
