Slopalong #3 She doesn't understand beans

@That Forensic Man I'll be going to Tesco tomorrow to buy 30 Cadbury's Christmas Medium Selection Boxes. There's a local charity in my town that is collecting small gifts specifically for children, so that's my donation on behalf of the Tattle Frauen und Herren. I could get something for the food bank but this charity is close to my heart, so they get chocolate. 🤶
Thankyou dear heart, I've add it now but if you let me know the £ value afterwards it can go toward the total £££

@That Forensic Man I donated £10 to the Salvation army Christmas appeal, in gratitude for the world beating slopping that is in progress on this thread.
I'm sorry but I'm too tech illiterate to do screenshots though.
Thank(space)you tender one. No problem we operate on a trust basis, Jack could never

Do you fancy doing steak, mango and black bean curry dear heart? According to Jack the steak can be replaced with canned jackfruit or omitted completely. I strongly suspect the photo here will bear no resemblance to the finished slop.

On it. Will sort out hauling my a to the shops when it isn't -5 outside. It'll be a jackfruit one as I have a can of that in the cupboard.

Not brave enough to take on a slop, but have had so much enjoyment from the threads.
The photos, the descriptions, the wit - you are all bloody brilliant!

Please count me in for a fifty quid donation, I will be giving it to a local lady who works with a homeless group, on a voluntary basis. I will sort it over the weekend. TVM.

I'll do some hideous slopping next week, I think! Any ideas?
Found some Christmas themed recipes because it is the season

Website [2013] - Have yourself a cheaper little Christmas: My £2.25 Christmas dinner on the One Show!
Brandy butter and white chocolate ice cream
Mince pie crumble
Mackerel pate with salad and bread

Guardian [2013] - Jack Monroe's budget Christmas
Website version (screenshots of the Guardian lol) - Have yourself a cheaper little Christmas: My Finnish-inspired budget Christmas dinner for The Guardian

Jack's Christmas ham with veg - Honey Roasted Christmas Ham
Maksalaatikko - Liver & Sultana Casserole

This one is interesting because she says that due to the "crappy bank fraud episode that still isn’t quite sorted" the best Christmas present she can offer is to cook for people. This is apparently a marvellous way to spend the week despite losing two knives of likely ~£250 value. She also admits to cooking for "a young guest ('little girl') with a severe egg allergy" with a "stinking hangover from the night before’s foray into home made cranberry and orange vodka". bleep

Website [2016]
Leftover Stollen (or Pannetone) Ice Cream

Website [2017]
Leftover Turkey Curry
Post-Party Panzanella
Boxing Day Pasties

Website [2020] - Jack Monroe’s 3 Course, Zero-Waste Christmas Dinner

In the same way it isn't normal to cook sausages for an hour, no. But it had been triple checked by three home economists so that's us told

Jack does seem to have an unfortunate history with financial fraud doesn't she?

First the case of the missing royalties, next the mystery of the bank fraud, and a couple of years ago the inexplicable case of the Bluetooth identity fraud.

Plus the burglars departed with the contents of the shed and garage. Twice.

I think the bluetooth incident happened around the time Jack and LJC would have been putting down deposits for their wedding, may be even considering buying a house together. So that makes it particularly poignant. Who could have guessed that LJC would have LEFT a few months later.

The gravy recipe is terrible. I mean, overnight gravy. What the duck? At the end Jack mentions using large from the meat, but doesn't say when to add it. And the Yorkshire puddings are shop made.

It’s almost as if she doesn’t know how to cook 🤔

The gravy is ridiculous, but this in the blurb at the bottom of the page is what got me:

She works with Oxfam, the Trussell Trust, Child Poverty Action Group, Plan Zheroes, the Food Chain and many food banks, schools and childrens centres to teach people to cook and eat well on a low income, and campaigns against the causes of poverty and austerity in Britain and abroad.

Hello again Frauen und Herren.

I've avoided this thread after the sheer embarrassment of awarding a 4 to Jack's Daal and then discovering I added too much spice, hence it being quite tasty :) Absolute chaos.

I now feel strong enough to potentially attempt another slop and will be FORENSIC by thrice checking the ingredients.

Happy to attempt a veggie/vegan/fish-based recipe (not fish paste though, completed it mate and it was pretty rank). Any suggestions welcomed otherwise I will peruse the Wiki for ideas.

Slop well, dear hearts x

Maybe you should try the aubergine vindaloo, see if that was just me. We could thrice test!!!! Though I do feel cruel subjecting anyone else to the horror.

I absolutely detest aubergine so I fear it would not be a fair test as even if it worked out perfectly (yeah, right) I'd still hate the taste of it.

I will have a scroll through the Wiki - I've got plenty of time as I don't plan to slop until the New Year.

Thank you though for the revolting sounding suggestion, dear heart x

@That Forensic Man I made my donation to the foodbank collection in Lidl today, can you put me down for £10 please? I went with baby wipes, tampons, pads, tinned chilli and cereal. It was an eclectic mix, for sure.
