i mean i eat a punet of grapes when i go to the cinema as i always have to eat something during a film and if i take that with me with the intention of having it , it stops me from getting popcorn and icecream
I get a melon and strawberry box from M&S round the corner from the cinema, have this while my bf sits there eating a family bag of Malteasers 😂

people in my SW group used to eat an insane amount of fruit. Like a whole fruit bowl worth a day. Then just couldn’t understand why they weren’t losing weight!

It obviously works for you so not knocking it but I dont think SW talks about coping mechanisms not to eat for the sake of eating. When I did SW I always had to have something when I was watching TV after dinner. Whereas now (after CBT I should say) I dont have those urges as much anymore. I wish SW did more on that side of things rather than replacing x with y, talk about our feelings around the food, why do we feel the need to snack, where do those feelings come from. I found CBT really good for this.
yea i get what you mean with boredom eating , luckily for me im a nhs nurse so by the time i get home and cook my tea ,its 830 so i dont normally have long before bed

Don’t forget beckscross.. does anyone follow her? She irritates me SO much

Well then, he definitely deserves his own thread on here seeing as he loves it so much 🤣
I also used to be sucked into the whole SW Instagram thing years ago, I still have my account and look at it often.
Has anyone noticed that gemmab.slimming seems to be gaining followers so fast but not losing any weight? She looks the exact same in her before and after pictures, but she knows her angles and the afters are in awkward poses to appear thinner 🤣
i have to disagree with that about Gemma, you can absolutely tell she’s lost weight her stomach has gone down so much, although she is starting to do my head in aswell. Constantly spending money when she’s at uni??? How?!

Totally agree with you. I find there's a lot less guilt with calorie counting. You can eat pretty much whatever you like as long as you plan for it. I know SW says you can do this on their plan, but its a lot of rubbish. It's 24 syns for a Mcdonald's meal thats 696 calories, but you can eat a gigantic 800 calorie brekky for less than 5 syns🙄 I get that it's trying to steer you to "healthier" choices, but in my opinion it just demonises food.

I'll never understand why people pay TeamRH to work out their TDEE for them and to be shouted at for not doing 15k steps. I've never been a member, but from what I understand you log using MFP which is free🤷‍♂️
My fitness pal is spot on or nutracheck, you've got to pay for that but its cheaper than SW and WW

Been following this thread with interest. I used to do slimming world and lost a sizeable amount but then got pregnant and piled it all back on last year with the stress of being a first time mum in a pandemic. Agree with others here who say the plan isn’t bad and these Instagram accounts are misrepresenting the plan. I have thought about going back to a group when they’re allowed but I’d probably have to take my kid with me and don’t really want to expose her to diet culture this young. Currently going the calorie counting route too.
Definitely!! Also, alot of the big accounts 'celebrate' maintaining their target with their huge portions yet they are also walking 20k steps a day! That tells me they would be gaining if it wasn't for the excessive exercise and maybe should think about their portion sizes.

Anyone seen these on Instagram...?! They post stuff like this and claim it’s slimming world. Really annoys me!! Also they deliberately do “sharer” meals or have food for 2 on the same board to give the illusion of even more food. Really pisses me off!
I've noticed alot of people do that with the kebab dish! Looks like loads but shared between a couple of people probably isn't that much. Yet will claim the 'huge' portions.

Thought I'd update following "bootcamp" at my group last night.

Was essentially a new member talk, going through the book and going into detail about free foods, speed foods, healthy extras and syns. There was info about the science behind SW, about hidden syns, the importance of checking on the app etc.

She asked if everyone knew that SW was in fact a calorie controlled diet (many declared they didn't have a clue) but the beauty of SW was that it was CC without having to do all the weighing and measuring as SW was about energy dense foods that were naturally lower in calories. Therefore if you were following the plan properly you'd be in a calorie deficit but also keep you full.

There was a lot of mentions of energy dense foods and concentrating on filling yourself up with free food and eating lots of speed before reaching for foods with syns.

I've never heard a SW leader acknowledge CC before, never mind actively say SW is one so that was a bit of a departure. My leader is a team developer so I'm assuming this is a active decision on SW's part to say it. They clearly see the trend for SW bashing/CC praising and challenging it.
Yea it’s been like that for the last few weeks , consultants are currently going through training at the moment so this must be the new direction

I know a few women bigger than her that have carried babies full term but it’s not really recommended. However, just going off someone’s BMI is BS as it’s so outdated. Other health factors should be considered alongside BMI. Family members have been on Clomid and had to be at a certain weight, if she’s gone private the weight limit might be higher but am not sure. If someone is desperate for a baby and has been told ‘no booze for X amount of days’ then I can’t see how they can’t do it. I like a drink as much as the next person but could happily give it up when I needed to carry my babies.
i agree bmi is absolute rubbish. I genuinely meant no malice in my message to her. If she is currently unable to eat well and avoid alcohol now she's definitely in for a shock if she does get a baby.

this alcohol and the takeaways are pretty much daily she's not helping herself

Surely if someone is going through the IVF process they can handle not drinking for a few weeks, lockdown or not. We’ve all been locked away for months on end but you can still support your local bar/restaurant without drinking. Plus if you are expected to lose weight for IVF then surely you’d stick to the diet plan?
I don't know how she expects to carry a baby at her size currently without any complications.

I don’t understand why anyone does this and yet I see people say it all the time. Nowhere does it say you have to eat your syns.
Not all your syn allowance no but I have literally been told by a consultant to have at least 5 syns a day, I know it’s nonsense but it does get etched into your mind that you must/should use them.

Has Emily’s.journey_x been mentioned on here? Absolute joke of a girl, crying about being too fat to conceive, then doing absolutely nothing about her weight in time for her ivf appointment. Then sulking on her stories because people rightly call her out on it, and goes out boozing and stuffing her face again.
She has a thread in the health instagrammers x

This was over 4 years ago, it was in L31.

Oh no. The whole "scandal" of her consultant sending a message to her was when I started losing track.
She knew how to work that situation to her advance. It was totally dealt with and they had moved on but she decided to drag it all up. She thought she was hurting the consultant but actually it was her fellow members it hurt the most.

That consultant is really lovely. Claire sh!t all over her from what I heard. My friend told me she said the consultant wasn't supportive, which is rubbish as my friend goes to that group. Claire is too full of her own self importance, it's a wonder she gets through a door, her head is that big.

Ultimately you need to make the decision for you. There are no rules with CC, you learn pretty quickly if you use your calories only for chocolate youre starving.

What makes you nervous? I can try to help. For me the benefits are being able to eat normally if I want to have cereal or porridge for breakfast and then a sandwich I can.

I find for breakfast and lunch I eat v similar things really so once Ive tracked them and got them in to Nutracheck its less time consuming over time to track. Also once youve been doing it you will get a feel for what fills you up / what meals work best for you.

I had a great day nutrition wise yesterday and I woke up and didnt feel hungry at all today but other days where I know Ive not made the best nutritional choices I can see that Im hungrier.

The basic principles of SW can be applied, have veg or salad with your meal when you can as veg and salad are a high volume low cal food.

It can take time to get your head around calories and not either being over your cals or really under at the end of the day. Initially when I first started I was still v much in the SW frame of mind and wouldnt want to use cals on things like butter or oil or salad dressing so would find myself with loads of cals left at night but Ive got myself into a good pattern now aiming for around 300 cals at breakfast 400 - 500 cals at lunch and it leave ls me around 850-900 for dinner, snacks, milk. This works for me perfectly but youl get to know your own body, when you feel hungrier, what type of meals you have and how they correlate to calories etc.
Thank you so much!! Some really good things to consider and welcome all advice!
