I came across some dreadful comments made towards Sam Smith on other social media platforms the other day, some made by teachers.
One in particular really stood out to me.
"I wish this fat mess would f*** off and go k*** himself. Even better if it was made into a video for us all to laugh at and watch over and over at our pleasure. What a waste of oxygen he is" that comment had a lot of likes on it.
Regardless of what anyone thinks of Sam Smith, comments like that are truly vile and disturbing and no one should ever have to read something like that about themselves. What's worse is that comment was made by someone who works with children, it made me feel a bit ill if I'm being honest with you.

In real life I always call people I know by their preferred pronouns as it would be rude not to. But that's only two people, and they both did it before it became trendy.

My goddaughter has been bullied in school for misgendering people, but I don't think she's done it on purpose. It must be hard if you've been used to something and then suddenly it changes. There are apparently 4 in her class that have changed their pronouns (early teens).

In recent years it's become hard to tell who's genuine and who's doing for attention. It doesn't help that so many declare pronouns, only to then change their mind once the attention is gone (jack monroe being a good example).

It's not surprising people are sceptical when it's become a tool to sell. Really doesn't help the cause.

I thought we had all this done and dusted about 25 years ago when we started using police officer and chair instead of policeman/chairman, etc.

This is the thing, even if you do have the intention of calling someone by the surname they’ve asked, it’s so easy to revert back to what you previously knew/referred to them as.

Cheryl Tweedy asked to be called Cheryl Cole a few years ago, and once most people got used to it, she then said she was divorcing and starting going by just Cheryl again…

it’s unrealistic to 1). expect everyone to know what surname you go by, and 2). get everyone to change their speech patterns and expect them to have that split second initiative all the time where they ‘correct’ themselves.
