She’s announced a new album for august (meaning only a year since short n sweet). I know she said it was because she felt inspired but I can’t help but think they wanted to repeat the exact strategy from last summer which worked so well. Wouldn’t be surprised if they extend the tour again. Just hope she doesn’t get burnt out!

I think she probably wrote a lot after the Barry breakup and has a lot she wants to get out into the public whilst it’s still somewhat relevant.

I also think she’s capitalising on her popularity right now. She knows her fans will eat it up and she’ll make another mil or two.

She has done very well to remain so relevant until this summer as well to be fair to her

It feels like Chappell Roan has sort of got lost and to me the two overlap a bunch in terms of when their “peak” was

Am I old (at 32 😭) or what am I not getting because all I’m seeing in the instagram picture is calling herself a dog. The picture gives misogyny, sex pest, early 00’s in the worst way vibes.

I usually get what she’s going for but I hate whatever that is.

I'm 31 and I don't get it either, I thought the exact same thing as you!

She's definitely striking while the iron's hot but I didn't expect another album until the SNS tour finishes.

Releasing another album so soon defo feels more strategy to keep her relevant than anything else, despite all her claims of ‘inspiration’.

I thought that as well. It's very male gaze-y for me.

I like the video for her new song. I notice she's kept a bit of the country styling that worked so well for her on her Dolly duet.

I hate the cover. It screams male gaze. Her fans are playing it off that it’s ironic, but it’s really not.

I think people are getting Sabrina burnout. I’ve seen a lot of backlash over the cover and people complaining Manchild is boring.

Sabrina has never been female gaze. The mental gymnastics her fans go through to prove that the sexualised juno poses, lingerie and now this album cover are female gaze are ridiculous! They are so blinkered. But ultimately, they’re just young and have zero life experience.

Comparing her sexualised character to Madonna is laughable. Madonna was NEVER male gaze. The pointy Vogue bra never appealed to straight men, and she was always sexually dominant and in charge and not sexually submissive like Sabrina.

Yeah, Sabrina is no Madonna. She's not even Christina Aguilera, who also did female sexuality way better. She's closer to Katy Perry.

The thing that gets me is that men don’t like her. They mock her oversexualized image (in public anyway) and they’re definitely not listening to her music. So who is this marketing geared towards?

I really liked her music in EICS better before Nonsense got successful and she changed her image and music. The tongue in cheek country twang is done better by Kacey Musgrave imo.

I don’t think this is true. They might be laughing at her publicly, like they do to most famous women - let’s face it - but then secretly look at her photos. There was a trend on tiktok of girls looking at their boyfriend’s Instagram feed and it was lots of sexualised photos of Sabrina. But the boyfriend couldn’t name any of her songs. Her ‘sexy baby’ routine sadly appeals to a lot of men, even if her music doesn’t.

that’s why I said in public 😉. I don’t doubt they engage with it in the privacy of their rooms, but that doesn’t sell music. Sells her image maybe but they’re not going to go to a show or buy/stream anything of hers. So I don’t get the point. She isn’t a model where it doesn’t matter if men deal with Pamala in the evenings alone because it’s the image that matters.

I just don’t understand it. Because it isn’t for females anymore and I don’t think it has been for a while. I get it, she’s young, it’s fun and why shouldn’t she express herself sexually if she wants. But I think it’s turning away from that even now and anything will do once she’s talked about - and she’s too talented for that. It feels like a waste 🤷🏻‍♀️ and for what a bit of w*nking fodder. Bizarre strategy.

Column inches and clicks. If the Daily Mail posts photos of her recent juno pose or lingerie outfit, for their rabid male readership to leer at, then it’s increasing her traffic to her website, increases search engine hits on her name. Men will literally sit and watch her music videos/juno pose/lingerie videos and masterbate with the sound off. Ok they’re not spending £80 on a ticket to go see her, because they can get what they want from her online without paying a penny. But that doesn’t mean that the clicks, searches, tiktok engagement are worthless. On the contrary, it pushes her worth up higher and higher. The marketing machine knows her music doesn’t appeal to straight men, but they want their engagement, and sex is the way to get it.

It’s a tale as old as time - Britney Spears is a prime example. She wasn’t dressed in a school uniform to appeal to school girls.
