I’m not even a mad fan of Russell but so far I think this is a very weak expose? Using old footage of his self confessed risqué past out of context is a bit low hanging fruit tbh. The piece about him urinating in a bottle.. who cares? Obviously if he forced himself on anyone that is appalling, but have any of these women actually gone to the police? I’m not sure how comfortable I am with this new this new thing of destroying someone’s life publicly through the media when there are courts and a justice system set up for that purpose. A lot of the old footage that they have now used against him was Russel owning who he is and being upfront about his past. It’s a bit unfair and convenient to be used in another context against him
He silenced his victims using his expensive lawyers as well as his power and wealth.
This report and documentary seems to have been the only way.

I've had to come off twitter, twatter, X whatever they call it. It's full of idiots who are Trump/Tate lovers defending him. The usual why didn't they go to the police line. Fuck off the lot of em. Sorry for my language but it's made me so angry.

So many defending and standing by him on X when they haven't even seen the documentary. I'm guessing Dispatches will have gathered some pretty strong evidence before they dare name him

Why is this coming out now though?
Because there’s no time limit for victims of abuse!

You don’t know how long these women took to even accept that it happened to them, never mind the fact he’s a celebrity and the whole world will be listening and judging them when they do speak!

I've heard talk of there being a long term investigation into Brand by mainstream journalists and also that a TV documentary is due to come out soon (an exposé from what I can gather). No idea if these things are one and the same and if they will see the light of day (when so much has already been supressed from all we have heard). I did wonder if his recent interview with Diary of CEO and announcement of baby number 3 on the way is his PR hard at work, as they know this is coming. Anyone heard anything?
We have a winner maybe!

My job involves working with victims of sexual violence and it's ghastly to see the rate of convictions, even where they've had evidence, because the courts need it to be 'beyond reasonable doubt'. And it's so hard to get evidence when the evidence of intent only exists in the assailant's head.

But even when there is evidence, that evidence is not always admissable in court. I've heard from rape victims who have had their rapist phone them and literally admit what they did and that they knew it was wrong/nonconsensual, then beg them not to get them sent down for it... but the confession is considered inadmissible in court because he didn't know it was being recorded/it wasn't recorded by the police/etc so it came down to a Not Guilty verdict 🙃 Same goes for screenshots - not admissable, so if you don't have the same phone/app data from when it happened, it can't be submitted as evidence. To do that, they have to download your entire phone data - but I've also had cases involving years of violent abuse fully collapse because the police found one flirty message at the start of the relationship (prior to the physical/sexual assaults) so CPS decided it'd undermine the whole case, meaning they just dropped all the charges instead of taking it to court 🙃

The system fucking sucks. But even if you can't prove it legally, you can and absolutely should shame those who think that any predatory behaviour is okay.
Maybe you can't legally say he's a rapist but you sure can call Russell Brand a fucking creep for free ✌
Absolutely agree. The criminal justice system is a fuckkng joke. It archaic, all about money, and controlled by men. My sister got stalked and harassed to the point she was terrified to leave the house. She was advised by the police to take it to court for a non mol order against him, before they even considered any of her evidence (which was damming for him) they decided that because the relationship only lasted 11 months (not including the stalking/harassment after) that it wasn’t a “significant duration” and threw it straight out. She ended up having to move from her home & practically start her life again.

Yuk. Even if provided with a bargepole and a Hazmat suit you couldn’t pay me to touch him.

It's been ten years!
Other comedians are saying he's had plenty of people in court for 'reasons' connected to this. I suspect we'll hear more now this is out. It's easy to keep an individual quiet but not so easy once a programme like this validates their experiences and they know they're one of many. Why does it matter? A rape doesn't become less of a crime because he gets away with it for years.

Google it. Thankfully he’s in a critical condition in hospital. One can only hope Ian Watkins dies at this point.
Personally, I don't wish him to die. I wish him a very slow, painful recovery, enough for him to be put back in prison for the same thing to happen to him again.
Over and over again.

I think he was very controlling with Katy, she had to do exactly as he said, another ex wrote a book about him (she altered names) and said that he was very controlling and could be pretty nasty. He is now reinventing himself as a family man/spiritual guru, but unless you know him its not possible to be sure of anything except speculate I suppose, his current wife seems happy enough with him. He does seem to have a massive ego though which I personally would find difficult to cope with.

This is the road we’re going down and people are cheering for it. It’s very dangerous.
It’s so dangerous and damaging. I’m actually still reeling from the fact I watched a career destroying programme about someone who isn’t even facing criminal charges, let alone facing a trial for anything. How did we get here?? So can anyone say anything about anyone now and it’s true? I don’t even give one shit about Russell but I do care about how things are progressing in this regard and how this going. Nobody should be able to make allegations about someone on prime time tv willy nilly. Go to the police first!! There is a reason we have a judicial process so use it instead of waffling on tv fifteen years later

Are you even British?? Have you never heard of Innocent until proven guilty? He doesnt have to prove anything, the burden of proof isnt on him its on the accuser! Jesus wept the nutters on this board are just a bunch of screaming harridans!!
The Lucy Letby trial had no hard evidence, it was basically all circumstantial. And yet she was (rightfully) found guilty. If enough women come forward it will become very hard for him to maintain his innocence.
