Those comments though... 🤣
The poor audio and also her pronunciation of certain words were just so bad in this video that I couldn't even understand what she was saying... surely you'd pick this up in editing, right? Glad it wasn't just me 😭

Actually PhD students often work in the UK, often for the university doing Lecturing, student advisors, assistants etc. In humanities it’s rare to get funding that covers fees and living expenses. MA students will work unless they have family financial support.
PhD students work in the US too. They often teach extra courses to make up for the little funding they get. They're not usually allowed to take on jobs outside of the programs

Americans are known for their very fake cheeriness and over the top smiles so I guess it's part of the pack ( generalisation here of course, but most americans we see as tourists or colleagues coming for a year here are like that, they are rather surprised we don't have the huge corporate grin all day long).

There's a ton of very simple everyday things that Ruby struggles with, and I really don't understand why would any university offer a diploma to someone like that. It's not like if she was a true genius for more abstract concepts either.
It's not fake per se it's just being polite. It's polite to smile or nod at a passing stranger or say good morning to someone you pass on your way to get your morning coffee.

I've done this with my boyfriend in the past (mostly to cuddle while he read), it's so boring, I read faster than him so every page I just sat there until he finished it.
That's what I was thinking, you'd have to say every couple of pages 'next' or 'done' - ahaha.

She’s posted a room tour on tt and insta and all I’m thinking is, if this rat’s nest is what she sees fit to post online, what does her room look like normally? With all the empty cavernous rooms in their 1/3 of a mansion, not to mention an entire cottage that she owns and could move into, there’s no real need to have piles of unread books gathering dust on the floor in every corner.

how does she sleep with her bed facing that way 😭 I’d have to have my head at the opposite end further away from the door.

The fact that she gives us a room tour of her bedroom that she “loves so much” doesn’t bode well for her moving out on her own anytime soon.

Why do we need yet another room tour? The only thing that's changed in the past 8 years is her degression to a single bed. And even that's old news now.

I haven’t seen the video but I can imagine the direction she is sleeping. She’s said previously she’s very scared of being home alone/having someone break into her house. You’d think anxiety from that would mean she’d sleep the other way (plus I think our brains are wired to sleep facing the door for that very reason).

As someone who actually has had their house broken into, I definitely wouldn’t sleep the way Ruby is.

To be fair if I didn’t have to i wouldn’t live alone I hate it and I have kids so the thought of being on my own own!

I screenshotted this yesterday but ended up not posting as I felt there was nothing about the Victorian nightgown and the crack shed that hasn’t been said many times already 😂😂😂

edit: meaning that I couldn’t think of anything witty to say, not that you shouldn’t have posted this, I’m glad you did!

I feel so sorry for her 😂 beautiful summer finally and that’s her pictures. She’s like ballerina farm. She has all the means but is wasting her life away

There's smiles and smiles. You can rather easily see the difference between a polite smile or nod and an overly wide corporate grin.

The state of the shed is crazy. I’d be so embarrassed to post the broken window panes. It looks like something from Fallout

one gust of wind and I think that shed will collapse. It's barely a shed at this point!

Without wanting to put ideas in her head I’m surprised Ruby hasn’t converted it into her writing shed inspired by Roald Dahl.
