All must rejoice. No tights with the outfit today. Ruby’s a new woman. View attachment 2858830
80% of the time her outfits are misses. I was trying to find some of her spring/summer outfits that I liked and it took me ages.

She has so many clothes - they must be taking up ridiculous amounts of space in Bones Manor. Who needs that many outfits?

I seem to recall during a trip to Paris all her outfits looked a whole lot better apart from the inevitable beret.

Question for the thread: why has Gilmore Girls become a social media phenomenon so long after it aired?

I'm confused as to why she went back to Oxford just to spend the night there. I mean it doesn't make any sense as to why she has gone back to Oxford especially when Hilary term finished a number of weeks ago.
Is she recycling an old photo again?

These are really nice!

At least she stopped at the beret. I was worried she'd start wearing a string of onions around her neck and carrying a baguette.

That's what I thought at first but then she posted a video soon after saying "I came back to Oxford just for a night" I mean I'm really confused as to why she went back to just spend one night at Oxford especially when term finished weeks ago and it's coming across that she doesn't know what to do with herself during this half term.

It's been that way since finishing Exeter. I personally suspect Blakeney is still bitter that Ruby practically abandoned her in that cottage during their final year for no good reason.
Or she was never her friend and was just tolerating to play the friend for possible free stuff in reward. Lot of relationships are interested, that wouldn't be surprising.

I think it's the resurgence of early 2000s culture in general! I work with teenagers and they're all watching Bring It On, 10 Things I Hate About You, etc and wearing millennial outfits, loving the whole preppy aesthetic, etc

I assume it's a similar interest to what people in the 70s had for the 50s, or the 80s and 90s had for the 60s (revival of the mod aesthetic in the 80s and then the psychedelia in the 90s).

I am always slightly amazed that Friends has become popular again in the whole Y2K trend. If ever a show was ripe for cancelling, it’s that one, and yet people seem to love it. Weird.

Nostalgia is a huge factor. People will overlook a lot for nostalgia.
I worked with a man who was 35 when Harry Potter came out and I remember him saying stuff about "plotholes and bastardised mythology" (Ruby would love this phrase I feel) and I (as a 21 year old who adored HP) didn't get it. I'm now 35 and I absolutely do, but plenty of people would disagree.

Gilmore Girls being out on Netflix also played a big roll. I saw it for the first time around 2015 because of that and now people have yearly autumn rewatched because it’s just so accessible on streaming. I’m guessing the revival also brought in fresh interest, even if the quality of it is debatable.

It’s been a while, I seriously wonder how Ruby’s writing is going? She still working on that novel ‘Palisades Lost’? Does she still have a literary agent? Is she working on something new for her ‘debut novel’? Love to take a peak on how that’s going.

I’m just interested cause I’m a writer myself im interested in knowing maybe a bit too much 😅

What these have in common is that she's not cosplaying as a WW2 orphan. Some people can pull off dressing vintage but it takes a bit of effort to avoid looking like an old lady or a child. Usually you need to style your hair and wear makeup to look chic and cohesive. And she doesn't do that bc it's too grown up for her
---
And I wanna add that a few of these look fine if you don't look at her feet lol. You're like "wow looking like a normal girl for once" and then she hits you with the ankle socks and Oxford shoes

She still has the same literary agent for now, but I can't imagine they'll keep Ruby on the books indefinitely considering it's gaining them nothing but wasted/unpaid time, shoddy, plagiarised first drafts and endless rejections.

Palisades Lost seems to be the book that her agent went out on submission with and that appears to be the 5,973rd "debut novel" she's referred to.

Considering Ruby went on submission a few months ago and between that and uni she's become increasingly miserable, I doubt it's going well and it's no doubt been nothing but rejections again. It remains to be seen if she threw a tantrum, pulled this one from submission and scrapped it after rejections, too. If she had a publisher offer or a good grade from Oxford to share, she'd have been shouting about it into a vlog the first chance she got.

The title "Pallisades Lost" can't be real. Is it real?? Is it a parody?! John Milton called, it's important...

Thanks to all who replied to my Gilmore Girls question. The nostalgia explanation makes sense, though it's depressing to realise that the 2000s are now classed as retro haha.

I 100% believed that Palisades Lost was a joke title created by someone on this thread. Then I did a Tattle search to see where the 'joke' originated and all I can say is WTF it's the actual title. 😂 If I had to guess, I'd say Palisades is referring to the setting. For example,

This sounds like the sort of place Ruby would choose to set a novel.

From what little she's shown, it's (big shock) about a self-insert Ruby clone in rural England who lives next to some fields. In a classic display of Ruby stupidity, I think the title refers to medieval fences (the book seems to be set during unspecified "olden times").

She likely heard about literary allusion at uni and thought it was a free pass to lazily steal stuff, so from what little she's shared, it appears to rip off His Dark Materials, she's straight-up copied a Robert Burns poem and tossed on a nonsensical book title that references Milton.

Oh no that's even worse. 🤦‍♀️😂 My mind went to Pacific Palisades because a lot of recent, popular YA novels (e.g. We Were Liars) have been about rich kids. I never would have guessed the title was referencing Ye Olde Medieval Fences. Let's hope there's more to the plot than 'we've lost our fence' because that doesn't sound very engaging.

Either of these options are preferable to the (admittedly rather niche) third one, which is that she is trying to sound very cultured and obscure by referencing the 2005 masterpiece The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is Out to Get Us! by Sufjan Stevens, a.k.a. the one who has my whole heart.
