Oh, how could we ever forget about the trauma that was her sprained ankle? The way both Ruby and Clarice carried on for WEEKS, you'd be forgiven for thinking the bone had been shattered in a tragic accident and Rooble's was at risk of never walking again.

Not to mention, we got my favourite incident of Claire scolding Marfa for the mortal sin of being alive in Ruby's presence from it.
---
Why do so many parents do this golden child/black sheep thing?! It really triggers me as I’m Marfa and my sister’s Ruby 🤭

Ruby wouldn’t be so smug and desperate for perfection if she wasn’t told she was amazing compared to Marfa all the time. That’s probably why she likes being a child all the time- it reminds her of when she was always told she was perfect

They have a cleaner (she's called Clara) but you can't clean clutter- as I very gently had explained to me by the cleaner I had when my mental health was bad. If they have so much crap there's only so much dear Clara can do with it to make it look... less crap
I believe Clara = Claire/Mummy Bones. She goes by the name Clara Raven for her blog/writing, too.

The only cleaner they likely employ are for the AirBnB cottages they own in Devon.

I thought they had a cleaner called that simply because in one vlog there was a note saying "we love you Clara, thank you!" With a to do list underneath, and then the "next day" (who knows with Ruby) the list was gone and the chalkboard said "thanks for all you do Clara enjoy your holiday"
Which if it's her mum is absolutely bonkers.

Can I just say that I'm grateful for your comment because I'm a Marfa too with a Ruby sister and the more I see how incompetent and unlikeable Ruby is the more jealous I am of her for getting so much attention and love when she isn't trying to better herself or care about others in the least.

I think I might be the only one who watches these videos just to live vicariously through her and to see what it would be like if I wasn't ignored all the time (although I wouldn't prefer it if I kept making a fool of myself-or maybe I wouldn't care, if I had any attention from my family. I don't know how that feels haha)

I'll show myself out

I’m usually not a me-railer but I do think these comparisons are valid to how Ruby sees herself- my Ruby sister seriously can’t cope that she’s not universally adored and seen as the best outside our family. I reckon that’s affected Ruby. As a Marfa I know there will be lots of hush hush discussions about look at your grades Ruby, you’re so much better than Marfa… being a perfect child and forgetting about her life experiences to the contrary comforts Ruby
---
The Marfas to the Rubys aren’t usually even bad kids anyway but the families tell them they’re sooo bad compared to the Ruby so they just can’t be bothered, which shows as a rebellion
---
If you’re the type to watch Ruby Granger Wallis I doubt you’re a bad kid beyond redemption, that’s what I mean 🤭 🤗

I'm just personally amazed at how many times Clarice has been caught on camera scolding Marfa. Because it's not like Ruby posts hours upon hours of footage from her day to day life, it's at most 30 second snippets sliced together to make a video. Which leads me to believe that Ruby used to actively select these sections of the video to post. So I don't actually know if Claire is actually horrible to Marfa or if Rooble's just gets some sick, sadistic pleasure from publically displaying her sister getting into trouble.

Have they not referred to their cleaner in the past? Cleaners can only do so much if they're not in every day though. My boyfriend had one for a time and the place still managed to go to rack and ruin during the week (I diagnose him with owning too many dishes and too many clothes, owning too much stuff means you aren't as on with keeping it clean). Difference with him though is he didn't post it online and harp on about being a germaphobe.

Weird class things about having a cleaner in this country, I think. I often surprise people by being fairly left leaning but being generally positive on the topic of hiring cleaners. I presume Ruby keeps it on the DL because it would harm her relatability, or what little of it she has left. She never refers to her scout (person who does some cleaning of college accomodation but is mainly there to check the place isn't going to ruin).
I don't recall anything about a cleaner in their videos and blogs tbh, the only person who mentionned having to clean something was Ruby and seeing the final result...
When I though about hiring a pro, I was thinking also for organizing their mess of a house. Even if we take one single part, their bookcase ( not the ones in Ruby's room, the one in the other room), the books are put here but you wonder how they can't simply do it properly. Maybe if their stuff was properly stored, the house would be less horrible.

I'd say a bit of both.

Does anyone else find it interesting that Blakeney now only hangs out with Ruby if it's for some kind of freebie PR event?

It's been that way since finishing Exeter. I personally suspect Blakeney is still bitter that Ruby practically abandoned her in that cottage during their final year for no good reason.

Blakeney seems like a pretty sociable person. I doubt getting left behind all alone in a house, miles away from campus and the rest of her friends, not to mention being stuck solely with the bills because her richer roommate could has skittered away home to cosplay a prepetual 12 year old was part of her university plans.
Elaborate? Ruby just stopped hanging out with her? :)

Online classes became a thing and Ruby did what she always does and ran straight home to bone manor only weeks after signing a two person lease with Blakeney, rarely returning the entire year, but still laying claim to the better room.

Idk about her but I would be very happy to be renting a place big enough for two people and be the only one using it for a full year because my runaway housemate paid their half before going away home.

Something I realized about Ruby's Oxford program recently is that she not only chose it because it was easier to get into, but also because she has always avoided difficult conversations and topics regarding the present. Ruby has never been the kind of person to engage in social justice (which is fine and not everyone has to make that their social media platform), but there is something intentional about the way Ruby weaponizes her place in academia. She can only ever be "intelligent" and an "academic" as long as she's inhabiting a world where whiteness, generational wealth, and access to connections that give her advantages over others.

I mean, we saw this when she somehow got a unique opportunity to "help" the Emily Dickinson Museum with their social media, while this type of volunteer opportunity wasn't available to others on their volunteer website. She refused to explain how she got this opportunity and basically gate kept access to those who might want to do something similar. She was easily able to secure a place at her old school and barely mentioned it at all. And again, at Oxford, she chooses to focus on older material within English literature, which again is not wrong in itself, but she did it to avoid grappling with world literature and what that means in a modern context. Her lack of awareness of current events and inability to form connections to diverse experiences and people is harming her more than she thinks. Plus, I'm sure that her instructors and classmates are pushing her to think outside her limited worldview and it makes her uncomfortable (hence why she has seemed so miserable throughout her time there).

I also enjoyed watching Gilmore Girls, but her suddenly clinging to that "Rory Gilmore aesthetic" makes sense considering that Rory was also so used to getting everything she wanted and praised even when she was wrong. I think she and Rory have always been more focused on inhabiting places of academia and privilege, but lack the awareness and depth necessary to make long-term and successful careers out of it.

Yes, but we're talking about living alone during lockdown here. It's not like Blakeney could just go out and do what she wanted. She didn't even have a garden.

I think that Ruby is a pretty flakey friend at times and to be honest, she could be rather irritating with how clingy that she appears to be. I would be rather annoyed if my friend did leave me alone in the flat during Covid to go back home even if she did pay for it. I don't know how I would feel if my friend who I lived with at university, took all the same classes as me, wanted us to discuss things before and after a class, doing the reading together and for me to give her my notes etc.

I'd find Ruby fine to spend time with in small doses such as in a class and going for a coffee afterwards. I don't know if I could cope with spending a large amount of time with it, especially as Ruby has little idea about what she is actually speaking about and she has to be the smartest in the room all the time. It is a personality which grates on me but it is just me perhaps.

I can't really blame Blakney for perhaps hanging around with Ruby for the free events and getting gifts from PR such as ready meals when they were at university. I think that it would perhaps compensate, I don't know if that is the best phrase, for Ruby's behaviour or her copying her work.

I think as well, that Blankey only has Ruby in small doses as evidenced in university when she was a member of different clubs and she had a job.
