Little tidbit from her new video - she mentioned having a therapy session in the evening/late afternoon. Good for her tbh.

Also very much OT and TW for death my mother passed away sometime this morning - I went to her place around noon because the nurse hadn’t been able to get hold of her, and she had dozed off on the sofa and just slept peacefully away. It was all we could have wished for, it was a long battle and cancer really does blow. I def don’t want to hijack the thread so reacts over comments pls, I just thought since I’m here a lot and have spoken about the situation before, I wanted to let you lovely peeps know. I plan to keep on snarking as usual.

Super OT
Sorry, folks, I know this is not the right place to share this, but I will anyway since you have been keeping me company in the past months, you really are distracting me from my terrible job situation :(

Seeing Ruby being so confident about her bad writing and selling her poetry anthology made me realize that I have nothing to lose and that what is really blocking me in my creative expression is my insecurity so... I submitted a poem to an independent literary magazine (and it has been accepted and I just received a printed copy!!!!!!!!!) and now I am working on my own poetry zine (just like Ruby 😅)!
Mind you, I am far from being a literary genius... but this is making me so happy and energized!!!
I want to thank all of you: it was you (and Ruby) who gave me the confidence to give it a try!

lol I doubt she’s dropping any hints whatsoever, she has all the subtlety of a sledgehammer and the camera pointing to Blakeney instead of the view is fully within her normal level of ineptitude with a camera 😂

Okay, here’s a (really) weird theory I’ve been having for years know – sad, I know – and that’s been slightly tested by Ruby posting this photo with Blakeney’s jacket (because it was quite unusual for her). Let’s treat this as some sort of #headcanon.

In my head, Ruby and Blakeney have been in love for a long time now. In this version of reality, Blakeney is the clever, but slightly grumpy one, rolling her eyes every now and then. She knows about Ruby’s flaws and fears. She’s down to earth and rooted in reality while our Roobs is, well, simply not. She doesn’t like Ruby gushing about her as a ✨ best friend ✨ because a. it’s not the truth and b. somebody could actually find out the truth. Still, some part of her secretly likes reading these words directed at her. All in all though, she insists they keep a low profile. (The more so, the better. She despises the attention.) She actually enjoyed helping Ruby out back in Exeter, all their late night study sessions and dancing in the kitchen. She knows about her rather difficult family, money or no money, and always wished to be there for her. Still, she wants to play it safe. The cropped head? The public doesn’t need to see them together. All the times when we asked ourselves who, if not Mummy Bones, took photos of Ruby while travelling? It was actually Blakeney. Sweet honeymoons before they go their own ways again.

But Ruby’s worsening mental health problems and her moving to Oxford soon are a strain on the relationship that needs to be kept in the dark for several reasons. (Ruby’s fAmE on social media. A potential disinheritance by Daddy.) The jacket that Blakeney gave her, though? She’s allowed to keep it. Forever.

(Okay guys, I’m seeing myself out now. Probably a sunstroke and too much caffeine.)
I think I accidentally logged into wattpad

Is Ruby dropping hints? This is literally just a picture of Blakeney. There’s barely any actual view

God, what a dull and crappy video. She has the innate ability to take a trip to somewhere new and potentially interesting and make it look like the most profoundly boring place on Earth.

The interesting things to see - what happened on the writing retreat, what the structure was like, what kind of people attended and what, if anything, was taught - are completely absent. There's no footage of anyone else and no evidence that she wasn't just alone and bored in a cottage for a week. It's the same old shit. She joylessly stares into space while tapping away at a keyboard. She performatively sets up a camera just to film herself walking away from it. She wanders a garden, trying (and failing) to look like the human embodiment of carefree whimsy as she grimaces away.

This video about a writing retreat contains practically no discussion of writing or the writing retreat. 95% of this video is Ruby in her bedroom giving a meandering, insincere ramble about mindful productivity.

She blathers for half the video about the power of SPYACE and the joy of LAARNING for the sake of LAAAAHRNINGGG, despite never having learned a thing herself. Case in point: Yet again, she includes footage of wind blasting the camera mic. Nothing is being said in this footage and she's overlaid music anyway, so there was no reason not to mute the source footage of wind slamming the mic, other than laziness and incompetence. She still hasn't learned how to improve at anything whatsoever, in all the years she's been alive.

She claims she's learned to use social media more mindfully now. We've heard this countless times from her and yet nothing ever changes. It's still the same bullshit: Lies to try to make herself feel and seem important or special, undeclared ads and pictures of her bedroom window are all she posts on social media. The vast majority of her videos are the exact same shit: An enlightened declaration that she's learned something or improved somehow and can now enlighten you, in turn, despite her content and her life being the same joyless, brainless, talentless assembly line of dishonesty and stupidity.

"The DADLOINES we SAT fwore oursalves are yeeshually IMAGINARY."

Yes, for you especially, Ruby. You have no writing deadlines. You have no responsibilities. This trip offered nothing that you didn't have already.

I posted this comparison of Ruby at home and Ruby on the retreat in the last thread:

56756 - Copy.jpg

And now she's confirmed that she paid to take the writer's retreat in Devon, where her parents own two cottages that she could've stayed in for free.

The cottage she paid to stay in, vs. one of the two cottages her parents own:

She blew £600-1000 on this performative trip to learn nothing and get nothing that she didn't already have for free. This wasn't some revelatory change of lifestyle and scenery. This was the same old shit in which nothing new was experienced. At least someone else profited from her stupidity this time.

It also wouldn't shock me if Ruby made her parents go to Devon to stay round the corner, like she did for the bulk of her time at Exeter.

Ruby the whole point of a fitted sheet is you have to tuck the ends UNDER the mattress otherwise the sheet will move like a first in your degree and you can't even check how fitted sheets are placed
In fairness, this is her first time changing a sheet, so she might not have the hang of it yet.

Maybe next year when she changes them again she'll be a bit better at it.

I’ve been waiting to join for ages because (1) I live in Oxford so can’t wait for Our Heroine to start as I will likely see her in person, and (2) I am marginally older than she is (no longer TWALVE) but did the equivalent masters course at Cambridge. Let’s just say I’m particularly looking forward to this chapter in the Ruby Chronicles. Thanks to all the Tattlers who have made these my favourite threads on the forum by a long chalk!
Just waiting for the next normal, average Oxford thing she ruins by wanking on about it.

I think it's hilarious how when I was at uni these studytubers always made me feel like I was such a huge failure and just made me feel terrible about myself and my abilities for not being able to get firsts all the time and do 12-hour study days but now they've all graduated (with the exception of Eve Bennett bc she's the only one who seems to be grounded in reality) they're all just massive losers lol. Like Ruby spends all her time pretending to be the ghost of a Victorian child who died of influenza in a boarding school, Jade must be on shrooms there's no way she's not on something behaving like that and all her -casual magic- nonsense, and I know 15-year-olds with more independence and responsibility than Holly Gabrielle

‘Threatening to set’ suggests that setting is something the sun may or may not do, depending (presumably on Ruby’s whim, but who knows?) Honestly, Ruby baffles me. Writers are supposed to take language and craft it carefully to express their thoughts. Ruby is like some kind of linguistic terrorist who takes words hostage and forces them to do things they don’t want to do.
Ruby Granger #40: Ruby the linguistic terrorist

This girl has had how many holidays in 2023?!

She has no idea how lucky she is.
In the last 12 months she's been to...

Falmouth.
Brighton.
Paris.
Scotland.
Milan.
Venice.
Amalfi Coast.
Greece.
York.
Boston, Mass.
New York.
Devon (Writing Retreat.)
Hay on Wye.
Florence.

Plus multiple overnight trips to London and probably more I'm forgetting. I'm sure she showed/mentioned going to Geneva soon as well. Her life's just one extended vacation.

For a snark forum, there is really high quality content here, for instance we are learning more about homosexuality in English literature and Forster's time now.
I enjoy that we have contributors knowledgeable about such a wide range of topics (and from various countries) on this sub! :)♥

I haven't commented on this thread before, but I wanted to hop on to share my perspective on her Oxford acceptance.

I've just finished the first year of the English tripos at Cambridge. I came across the essay she wrote for the Maryland journal, and, without being nasty, it's so so mediocre. Pretty much all of the first years could write on par with that, and most could outdo it. That essay would not even come close to getting a first at Cambridge, in Part IA let alone part II.

Points hang precariously on vague speculation ( eg her education at Amherst means she would be familiar with 'complex' theology (whatever that means), there's awkward syntax ('She is accordingly, and largely, understood...'), the argument is trenchant and reductive, and the introduction blitzes through angles on the topic and buzzwords without stopping to flesh them out (e.g. 'public' and 'private', the literal topic of the essay lol - what does it even mean to write a 'private' poem? Does speaking it aloud making it any less 'private'?) This kind criticism which speculates on an author's intention was blasted literally a century ago by New Criticism (the intentional fallacy). And it would honestly look silly next to the work of other third years at Cambridge.

So it's all the more surprising that Oxford let her in. I genuinely cannot fathom how she will cope with the demands of the MSt and with the level of scholarship around her. Particularly as the gap between a non-Oxbridge BA and Oxford MSt is far wider for an undergrad from another uni (Cambridge - and prob Oxford - covers fully the entire history of English literature in 2 years, and in third year you specialise eg there's a materiality paper which is the exact topic she's doing for her master's). Her experience of cruising along, doing next week's reading in advance for fun, spending months on a single author etc is completely foreign to the oxbridge system, where we can barely keep up with the weekly essay (sometimes 2) which lurches to a different author + topic every week.

sorry if this sounds snobby/elitist/nasty. But surely more should be expected of a privately educated student with an obviously stable and comfortable home. Giving her place to someone maybe at a non-Russell group uni, with obvious potential but a disadvantaged background would be so much more justifiable. It's so infuriating that a world leading uni's standards are this. I honestly wish she realised that there's a reason she was rejected for undergrad and that there's more to life than oxbridge.
