To be fair, im also having a gap year and I dont remember getting bored a single moment since i finished my last exam. There are many activity options
Meeting with friends, watching tv, books, going to market (as an excuse to go out), making coffee, chatting with mum, taking my cat to garden in good weathers, making origami AND BEST OF ALL napping at home. I also go to an art course a few days a week and I sometimes work on my painting at home as well
I feel like the stress we go through during school contributes to boredom when we can not use our free time efficiently towards work OR entertaintment. As if we are wasting our "free" time by not taking advantage of every second.
I love your hobbies!!

I read somewhere that scientists have shown that doing nothing or 'being bored', looking out of the window, is very beneficial for us if we do it every now and then. Our body and mind relax. We don't have to be productive, whether in work or in our pastime, every moment of the day.

I found Ruby's activities such as burning the poem to be absolutely strange to be honest, I found the whole video to be strange. I don't know if a part of this video, as someone said, is that she is trying to set herself up as being a creative genius who wasn't recognised until after her death. I don't understand why she can't think of her own ways to be creative instead of taking advice from another author and doing what they do. She just copies bits and pieces from other authors and how they write or they techniques such as Emily Dickenson and writing on scrap paper instead of finding a method that works for her.

I honestly think that she would be able to be a bit more creative if she left her bedroom and stopped acting like a child and lived a bit more of life. I don't know about anyone else but if I've been stuck inside for a few days, I'm not able to be as creative when it comes to writing or doing something academically, and I need to go out or I do something like go to work and ponder about what I need to think about. This is my technique when it comes to essay writing, I think about my essay as I work in the petrol station and I usually find the answer. I even wrote large sections of my dissertation in the back office in the petrol station!

I don't know if Ruby is struggling a lot more to be creative or with her writing of recently, especially since Lottie Parson isn't getting published just yet and she is apparently, writing so many books. I don't know if she is floundering a bit and she is trying all these methods to be creative and all the boredom activities to see if it helps her to generate an idea. Also that collar was awful, I was screaming at the screen for her to use a table when she was cutting. I think that she honestly spent more time making a mood board instead of actually reading instructions on how to make a collar, I know it was a sponsorship and she has to advertise that app, but I felt that she could have done much better instead of looking so pleased at herself for making a cape and having it lopsided with loose threads. I know it's her first attempt but her crafts are looking so juvenile.

Off note, I was rather stressed with her making her noodles in a milk pan as it was much too small. It bothered me so much more than it should have. I'm finding it odd on Tiktok she is doing a planner giveaway for teachers, I don't know if there is many teachers who would follow her and its for a secondary school class, you change teachers for every class you go to (at least I did) , so I am not sure how her give away is going to work.

On my CV I only listed the exams that are useful to clarify what my degree was in and what I learnt l. You could also write, for example, "Law degree with a focus on xx". It's not necessary to put every single thing you did in uni, no one cares.
A CV should be one or two pages max. If it's longer than that you're doing something wrong
A CV should only even hit the 2 page mark if your older and have years worth of relevant experience, I bet Ruby’s is 2 pages full of the same rit on her linkedin.

Yeah I feel like a CV for someone in their early - mid twenties should really only include a short paragraph about yourself and what you’re looking for jobs wise, your education + qualifications, your previous/current employment and skills (this should make up the bulk of the CV) and then a short part about any relevant extra things which you have done. No need to be listing out modules which you studied at uni or tit like that.

I'm confused as to why her LinkedIn states that she graduated in 2023. Did she do this to make it seem like she hasn't been out of school for that long? Or is it just a mistake?

Also, adding Trampolining Society and Harry Potter society (VP) is definitely not the kind of thing you add to a professional LinkedIn profile as an adult. I wouldn't even have added this to my academic resume as a teen. Lol.
The first impression I get from this is that she has no focus. Not in the classes she took, not in the activities she participated in. While there is always something to be said for being well-rounded, these are very weak interests. Trampolining and Surfing will get you nowhere in life. I don't even remember her talking about surfing while at Uni, other than a few times going with her father. If she is not competing in these sports, why is she filling up precious time with them? My POV is seeing this through the eyes of an American. Maybe it is different over in the UK, but involvement in sporting activities through school or university usually means being on a team or competing at some level. Where are the competitions and how did she place? Or did she just randomly go to a gym and jump up and down on a trampoline? Weird. Harry Potter Society....nothing needs to be said there. It is frivolous and considering the way the majority of her fans now feel about JK Rowling, it isn't something I would personally advertise! I get that Rowling went to Exeter, so the connection there, but still, there surely were more challenging literature themed societies being offered? Theology...again, I don't remember her ever sharing any information on being a member or what they did. Besides, that is related to the major she quit, so that doesn't look particularly promising. Especially since she is either Agnostic or an Atheist. I forget which she proclaimed. It just seems like a filler to me. If asked about her participation in detail I would expect very little would emerge.

She only took 3 classes in her third year? Why? I took 6 every semester. 5 for my major in English Lit and 1 elective. Is this typical in UK education? Why is she listing her classes? That is so strange!

I don't think there's anything wrong with participating in "frivolous" things just for the fun of it even though you're never gonna make any money out of it, I just wouldn't put it on my CV
As for the classes I think it may have to do with the fact that she had to write a thesis to complete her Bachelor's. It's the same in my country where we tend to have fewer exams in the last year so that you can focus on your thesis or any internships you might be doing to complete your degree

She still hasn't changed her Youtube "About" section as well, even though people have commented on that under her previous videos. Her response is always something like omg, yessss, you are so right, i've been just SO BUSY!

"My name is Ruby and I'm a 20 year old university student studying English Literature at The University of Exeter."

I’m American too but there’s plenty of clubs, organizations, and sports that don’t need to be competitive if you don’t want them to be. Sometimes it’s just fun to participate in something just for fun without the pressure of competition. But I agree with everyone about it not being very relevant to put it on her CV. Reminds me of when i reluctantly removed Space Society Email Coordinator off of mine 😂😂

If that CV hit my desk, I'd have a chuckle that someone with the fake surname Granger was highlighting her time in the Harry Potter society and then immediately move on to another application from someone with some amount of actual experience and common sense.

On the other hand, I'd love to see someone interview her and grill her about all the fake/wildly embellished entries on there.

Interviewer: "It says here you're a voice-over artist with 3+ years of experience. Can you tell us a little about the companies you worked for, and what roles you performed?"
Ruby: "YASS. WHAL. Oiy...DYO perform MANNY ryoles...which...umm...and as oiy say, it's varry...ummm...William WAARDSWAARTH once sad that theee hyole warrld's a styage and we are boht merely doing acting...on that...umm...[waves claw hand around]...warrhld's stage. Haha. And...umm...yah."
Interviewer: "Wasn't it William Shakespeare who wrote that?"
Ruby: "ACSHUALLY, Oiy've haard manny peopol say it. Weee...tand tyoo think of language and quotes as being tangibly assyociated with one parrson, when it's really more of an ethereal...folk tale...geneology whaaahr, when someone says something, someone alse repeats it differently and thann weee can navver knyow who ackshually sad it. It's really quoyte fascinating."
Interviewer: "[Holds up phone] I Googled it; William Shakespeare wrote it. But let's get back to your previous roles. It says here that you run a business single-handedly. That's really impressive! Can you walk us through a day in your role as company director?"
Ruby: "Umm...YASS...ummm...it's...[sweats profusely]...I can JANUINELY tal yoo that oiy DAFFINITELY DYOO run moiy own company...ONE HONDRED PRUSSANT. Oiy PROMISE YOU THAT. So...yah. JANUINELY."
Interviewer: "But what do you do?"
Ruby: "Umm...wal...Na-thaynn-yal Hworethorn once wrote that...umm...and...weee tand tyoo...umm...PONKIPODDOTIFFTI...and...umm... JANUINELY...oiy...umm... moiy basst frand Blakeney...umm...and syo... ACKSCUSE ME, oiy have to gyo now, oiy think moiy mummy might've fallen down the stairs agann. Have a prodocktive week."
Imagine if she quoted Dumbledore 🤣 She used to do that more back in her GCSE and early Exeter days but I wouldn't put it past her. Especially because she has Harry Potter Society on her LinkedIn

The country that I did my undergrad in, we did 8 modules in a year. So 4 each semester (for full-time students). Semester 1 is from Feb to July and Semester 2 is August to November. Each year's exams are held in Oct-Nov.

Seeking jobs post-grad, no employer even asked to see my academic transcript. They weren't interested in what modules I took.

Her university most likely used the ECTS credits system, where you typically complete classes making up 60 credits per year. In early years of my degree I took 12 classes a year each being worth 5 credits each but in final year I had 20 credit modules which had a bigger workload and more contact hours. It’s pretty common in the UK afaik. Ruby did a l dissertation module, and they’re usually worth more than a typical 5 credit module.

As an aside, extra curriculars and societies aren’t as important in the UK as they seem to be in the US. Most people just do them for fun. It’s not important to compete at a sport at any level and no employer would give a tit whether you did or not. It’s still silly to list sports on your LinkedIn though, regardless of whether you were competitive or not.

I just went to nose about on the society IG and,,, she wasn't even VP. Like she's not even mentioned in the committee anywhere. How pathetic!! If you're going to lie about something, at least make it cool and relevant to your LinkedIn!!

I am actually quite curious about her little job thing at her old school. I hope for her sake that it's an eye-opening experience to finally see what a real workplace is like and what people expect from a 22 year old in real life.
Knowing Ruby she might find it too overwhelming and quit. In my experience around two weeks into a new role it's when it starts getting stressful. You're past the exciting phase and you're starting to get into a routine, but you are still learning and not yet confident or fully independent, you still mess up, if you're like me you get super anxious about it, etc.
I think that if she tries to stick it out and keeps a positive, open and eager mindset this could be a good thing for her.

I don't think she takes it too seriously because she wasn't seriously looking for a job anyway. I think her using the Granger last name and listing all those things is just so her fans will think that she was a prodigy who was able to balance a ton of activities with her academics. It seems to be mostly a vanity CV rather than a professional one.
Plus, whatever jobs she could potentially get are through connections she already has (her current job, for example). And Sixteenth plays a role in this, too.

I don't think she takes ANYTHING seriously. Looking at her recent video, the content she puts out there. She basically says its ok to do a whole bunch of half-arsed things, not be good at any of them and just embrace the boredom. Imagine being an employer and seeing her sitting out in the dark with her candles and then sewing that weird collar thing. Omg.
