Really, she should get her license. If she can't fathom being able to handle city and highway driving, fine, but she should at least be able to navigate the country roads in her own neighborhood. How stressful could that be? I can't imagine living in the boonies without being able to drive. That's not just inconvenient, it's dangerous. Is she just going to rely on her mother to ferry her around forever? If she did nothing else with this "gap year" she should've at least done that---it might even have boosted her confidence and made her willing to branch out a little.
Exactly, and it’s not like she’d have trouble affording insurance/lessons/a car either so I don’t get why she hasn’t bothered to learn. You can’t live in the sticks at that age and be still relying on your parents to take you to work every morning.

I was her age when I started learning to drive and I only passed last year due to all the covid delays and backlogs. As soon as I started, I wish I'd learned earlier. Money and time were the main obstacles for me as I didn't want to spend all my (minimum wage) money from my retail job with an inconsistent rota when I probably couldn't afford a car anyway or have to constantly change the dates and times of my lessons. Ruby doesn't have those obstacles and I bet her area is easy to pass in.

This. Jade is the worse of all the studytubers IMO. Ruby is cringier (actually, could be debated) but Jade is...something else. Her deleted "apology" for going to a fool appointment across countries, wondering why South Korea "was so empty" because everyone was quarantining, her very concerning posts about "teehee I killed a rabbit!" and fetishizing Asian and South American people, filming and talking about random children for an uncomfortable amount of time, her MLM scammy dad, "casual magic" just don't be depressed spiel, etc.
I withdraw my assessment of Jade lol. Going on the record with it: Jade is NOT the most 'well-rounded'. I ducked up when I said that, worded it wrongly. My statement was more in the context of living an adult life, moving forward, experiencing the world. And it was a comparison with Roob's life as portrayed on her channel. Ruby hasn't left the nest at all and is still using mummy and daddy's RV for videos, getting driven around my Mother Granger. Ruby is definitely cringier, as you say. And I think i was using the 'who is cringier' test to pick the best of a cringy bunch lol. Although 'casual magic' is quite cringe...especially when Jade says it lol

Really, this. Its not cool to be depending on your parents for lifts. And it kinda sucks being a young adult with no independence, living in the sticks.

duck a 40 min walk, she should learn to drive lmao
That too. Its a bit unsafe, as well as exhausting.

OT but I'm in my early 20's and am on a very, very slow driving journey because I got into a car accident as a kid and being in a car gives me PTSD
:( But I'm still learning, however begrudgingly, bc I'm not gonna have my parents or friends drive me everywhere lol. I also will need to drive to work, to pick up my own kids, etc. So yes, I need to drive and learn to get over my fear. It's a working progress, but I'm working on it.

But Ruby doesn't have an excuse. In fact, she's using her inability to drive as an excuse to stagnate at 12 years old.

Well done for taking the initiative, however begrudgingly, and getting out there and learning to drive. It can be so challenging, especially with PTSD related to car accidents. I was in a similar situation when I was learning to drive, but I am so glad that I stuck to it. Now its just a normal thing and allows me so much independence.

From what I understand, Ruby doesn't want to grow up. I don't know what happened to her (if anything) but she has said pretty clearly a couple of times now that she struggles with the idea of having to grow up. The people around her need to stop wrapping her in cotton wool. (my opinion)

This is as close as she'll get to driving a car.

Children don't drive and she's not going to want to start every day with a reminder that she's an adult, so she'll keep buckling herself into the back seat of mummy's car to feel like a kid going to school every day.

Glad to see she’s been taking good care of her D&G trousers, I’m sure these will sell in a flash.

Yikes again. Is this real? Are they meant to look so creased?

Ruby's so careless when it comes to her belongings. I don't know why it irks me so much. Suppose it just seems disrespectful somehow? Like she's ungrateful for things that other people would treasure. 🙁

ETA: And why is she selling her Dolce & Gabbana stuff but keeping her brown shorts??

I know they’re designer but 84 pounds? They look ancient and she’s not in need of money. I’ve checked out her depop and it’s mainly full of tatty cheap clothes. She’s selling second hand H&M and Zara for £20+??? Who the hell is buying this crap? I can’t fathom buying or selling this type of stuff, why doesn’t she just donate to a charity shop?

Her Depop makes my skin crawl every time I see it. Everything she sells at ridiculous prices is always unironed and has been sat festering in some dark, damp, mouldy corner of her house for years. I think she's said before that she stores it all in the attic.

When she's not just showing that the clothes looks like tit, she's posting listings where the only pictures are from 6-10 years ago.

This is from a recent listing. Her dog is still a puppy in the picture.

You're supposed to show the current condition of something you're selling, not a few mostly-obscured photos of it from a decade ago. I dread to think how dusty and cobwebbed these are when she finally unearths them to post them, she sure as hell isn't washing any of it.

I’m sure I’m giving Ruby too much credit by even thinking this thought, but what if she’s sticking with Ruby Granger for social media so her profiles won’t show up if her students/colleagues/the admissions office at Oxford google her real name? When you google Ruby Bones, the only thing related to her that shows up is her LinkedIn profile (although of course google suggests “Ruby Bones Granger), and while she mentions her yt channel on there, she doesn’t mention the name of it.

I find uncarley so unbearable. She talks about the same few books all the time and is so sarcastic and clearly just copies phrases she heard on TikTok or something. She reminds me of Jack Edwards - everything is “unhinged” “a red flag” “if you like this book you have mental illness”. I think it’s so funny that she does stand up comedy, I imagine it’s super cringey.

The best booktuber I’ve come across (and one of the only ones who actually comes across as a lovely normal person) is a Canadian girl called Emmie. She’s really well read and intelligent, I definitely recommend her to anyone!
Oh I love Emmie too!

It's possible, but if she's doing that she's dumber than I thought if she doesn't realise her real name is attached to her online profile

I suspect she's done that unintentionally, but I'm not sure it's going to make much difference when potential employers/admissions look her up. When I googled "Ruby Bones" the only things on the first page of results were LinkedIn and Tattle- and she was silly enough to put "Granger" on her LinkedIn which is a bit odd.

And yet when I googled Ruby Granger the first page of results seemed more... professional? No Tattle, professional looking photos, LinkedIn, her management. Her business and published books also show up, which we know to be embarrassingly bad but an outsider might see them as a positive.

They all have their problems, but I think the main thing that sets Ruby apart from the rest of the studytubers is still the fact that her video making skills are so far behind.
Jade spews so much nonsense, but at least it looks nice. Their whole job is the ✨aesthetic✨: planning and performing a nice video in their chosen style and topic, and Ruby really fails to deliver. As much as she keeps talking about aesthetics, her videos are always weirdly lacking. You can see what she is going for, but it never quite reaches the mark.
There are weird jumps, changes in volume and colors, inconsistent pacing, really bad framing of shots... And you can always see the awkwardness behind whatever she is doing. Not really in a quirky, endearing way but in the way how you sometimes look back at your own actions and realize that they were actually cringy and you did not come across how you intended. It is relatable in this sense, but also really weird and anxiety-inducing, at least to me.

This is what bothers me too. She keeps harping on about she’s SYO, SYO GRYATEFUL for everything, and makes a big show of paying lip service to her privilege (”mummy and daddy love me syo much and are syo supportive”), but NONE of this is reflected in her actions. She doesn’t take care of the things she has, and she sure as hell never shares her wealth unless she can gain something in the process. I’m guessing the reason she doesn’t declare a lot of her ads is because she’s just that used to receiving free crap, it’s lost all meaning. (But if there’s an affiliate code or something else that’ll profit her, she makes sure to share, of course.) She’s a money-grubbing, greedy little girl who’s used to just taking and taking and taking.

I don’t even mind the rustic, “lazy” or relatable way Ruby makes her videos, I find bright and professionally done YouTubers unrelatable (not that Ruby is relatable lmao) but I don’t mind “regular old joes” vlog styles.

Like early 2010s YouTube :(

but her videos have like no love to them anymore.
Her fake voice is what irks me.

off topic rant about arrested development but…
I feel genuinely guilty for her in a way? It’s probably me projecting but untreated mental illness can be such a hinder to deal with. It’s not only with the person but to their family / audience as well. It’s getting to the point that I sometimes feel like me even looking at her videos is ‘encouraging her’ to keep this tit up.
I get reminded a lot of myself as I am about to graduate college next year and I’m crossing my fingers my autistic ass won’t end up like her. I was super terminally online during my high school days and as Ruby gets older and older it seems like she just regresses even more ): She’s really getting worse and it’s honestly feeling like we’re watching a train crash in slow motion.
I don't think it's projection, I really feel you there... It's very hard goings for a lot of twenty-somethings at the moment so it's painful to see someone with the money and opportunities to move on in their life just stagnating. I graduated a year ago and I'm still trying to find an office job and currently live with the parents because I don't have the cash to move out, so I can relate, in a way, to her feeling lost and useless. When you're between graduation and your first 'adult' job, you often feel depressed and confused; I have a lot of mates going through the same thing. I'm sure you'll make the most of life and will do better than Ruby... having this realization is a good sign, even if it's scary. If Ruby was more honest about the reality of life for most graduates and the negative feelings that can result from being without a solid plan for moving forward, it would be a real relief to most of her fans. The fact she tries to push this productive lifestyle shows she's not yet ready to face her fears and voice her emotions.

Exactly, this year off would have been a perfect time for her to have as many lessons as she needs, she has the means to throw a lot of time/money at it to get it done. Years ago I had to manage 1 lesson a week around shift rotations, because I could barely afford one lesson a week and barely had the time during normal hours. She could have passed by now. Then again, if she’s barely eating any calories perhaps she shouldn’t be behind the wheel, I would be concerned about her concentration.
