I do wondering if she's struggling as she's an 'introvert,' and if was having a panic attack after seeing friends for a few days then what is she going to be like in workplace and having to see people several times a week or hours at a time? I think she's keeping the details vague so she can quit at any time and no one would know if she couldn't stick at it.

Her videography skills have improved a lot though. That doesn't mean that they're good, but do you remember the framings she used to choose in her old videos where she stands in front of that white wall in her room with the poster on it? Now at least the angles aren't tilted anymore and she doesn't show more of the wall than of herself in her videos

True, but I don't know how much of that was skill and effort and how much is just the nature of technology over time and her imitating other YouTubers after she dropped the Hermione imitation videos. She seems to have stopped with the stark bedroom wall backdrop around high school and has been making the exact same videos since.

Her videos look technically a bit better than when she first started, but probably just because she happened to buy new phones/cameras over time which did the work for her. But since then she's just making the same videos for years on end. All the same bad lighting, sloppy editing, recycled footage, weird shots, crappy composition, bad music and general stupidity, the only thing that's really changed is her health has steadily declined.

I just watched her video or skipped through it but had to watch the part where she sews. what exactly is that cloth supposed to be?! First I thought she was going to sew a shirt and I thought "oh my god did you just hold it on your body to see if it would fit and sewed it together? don't you know that measurement exists?!"
that whole scene reminded me of the times in my childhood where I wanted to create something, didn't know how to do it (because it was the early 90s and there was no Google or Youtube to just do a quick search) and just did what I thought would work. I remember vaguely that I created some sandals or something using paper and sponge rubber. I bet my childhood self would've cut and sewed the cloth thing exactly the way Ruby did.

Also, has anyone noticed that Ruby, despite being a literature student, a self-proclaimed voracious reader and an endlessly curious person, almost never reads authors who aren't British or American? I cannot recall her reading translated works.

She claims to know Spanish. Latin America and Spain have incredibly rich literary traditions and they are contemporary authors doing amazing work. She seems to like fantastical stories, Latin America is the home of magical realism and yet she is never able to reach beyond her British classics and expose her supposed curious mind to something new.

Don't get me wrong. I love British classics. I particularly love American literature. But I also try to read Japanese, Nigerian, Colombian, Argentine authors; I make an effort to get to know the world through narratives. Ruby would benefit tremendously from reading about places and lives that are different from her very cloistered existence.

The weirdest part is that her audience seems completely unbothered by all this.

She learned Spanish to pass a gcse tho, I don’t think she knows it to the point of being able to understand a complex book

i wonder why she's introduced as youtuber and entrepeneur, and not by her academic achievements like the other participants
most of them were related to religion and theology studies, so i guess they choose her because she took one year of philosophy and theology and despite she never finished that undergraduate, they thought she would fit in -which she didn't-, but her education is never mentioned in the panel unlike the other members
also most of them seem to be related to king's college london somehow, why did they choose ruby then? it's just very weird

Also why not choose someone who finished their Philosophy/Theology degree instead?
I think her management might have pushed for this.

Sure, she’s new to sewing, but aren’t there like a million free tutorials on yoochoob on how to do it even halfway correctly?

I don't want to be a dick about beginner's work being bad but honestly, The first thing I ever sew was a pencil case last year, I used one of those shitty, hand sized sewing machines that run on AA batteries and it still looks pretty decent because I actually looked up and followed instructions. Novel idea for Ruby, I know.

I think Ruby expects to be naturally good at everything, doesn't bother reading or watching a tutorial and ends up with something like the cape!collar and then says that it's not good so nobody can say it before she does lol. We're allowed to be shit at something we enjoy doing, I just don't know why she lacks so much self awareness, especially when she has thousands of viewers who are very aware of what she does, all the time.

If she thinks being a good student means you're automatically a good teacher, she's in for a surprise. Does she even know how to make a lesson plan? Classroom management? First aid, mental health awareness? What about supporting students with learning needs? Explaining something in different words/ using a variety of resources? Does she even know what UDL is? What about students who have English as their second language? Students with dyslexia? An once of humility (what if someone asks her what "brine" is lmao)? Does she have an adaptable personality? Is she personable and fun?

She's none of these things. She's not a teacher- she's a disaster. And she's doing a disservice to her students who are gonna think English lit is some boring, stuffy subject that has no relation to the real world and reading is a lame hobby reserved for pretentious people like her.

Such good points, especially about kids with extra needs or disabilities. I don’t get how this is even allowed tbh.

If any other creator titled their video like this, I wouldn't give it a second thought. But, considering Ruby's creepy obsession and fixation on Blakeney, something tells me this was her idea.

Also, when she rambles on about Pope using ancient mythology in his works, like, girl, that's the whole point! Pope was a classicist, that was his thing, "to copy nature is to copy them", i.e. the ancient Greek and Roman poets. We had to read his An Essay On Criticism in our first semester of our B.A. English Lit degree, I'm surprised she obviously hasn't.

I just can’t imagine her controlling a class, especially if some of the kids are extroverted and chatty. I think back to my school days, my teachers had to deal with some really rowdy classes, it’s definitely not a job for the feint hearted. I couldn’t do it.

This is so hard for me to understand because her study videos are so uninspired. How could anyone feel shit about themselves after watching Ruby just time-lapse scribbling in her notebooks? There's nothing there! I know I'm not the audience for study content, and I know that kids are impressionable and often lack discernment skills about things they see on social media but still...I don't get it. I mean, I don't feel shit about myself when I watch Ruby's current, non-study content. In fact, I feel pretty good, because at least my house is cleaner.

I mean, I totally agree with you but this is not the first time I have seen someone say they feel shit about themselves because of content that certain studytubers put out. Maybe it takes a kind of particular very young and impressionable person to look at Roob's vids and feel insufficient.

I don't understand it either. Her study videos are not motivating in the slightest. Her chatty flogs are a bore. Her art and craft bits are actual shit and her routines, what i eats etc are also...actual shit. Lol. I'm thinking these viewers are 11-14 years old. My study years are all well behind me and even if they weren't, there is no way I'd use any of her study tips. True lol when I watch her vids I feel better about myself too. That sounds mean but its true.

I am genuinely curious as to what she actually does with her time because we know it isn’t reading. Well, maybe she does read but it’s re-reading her comfort books over and over. Which is fine but lying about reading tons of other books is wild.
