i had a sudden flash back to ruby and blaney and their "library Cards|" for borrowing each others books and scanning the card with a hairbrush ?! am i remembering this right......?
Unfortunately, yes. And they were like 22 at the time. It's not quirky or adorable, it's just sad and bizarre. You can tell that Ruby went out of her way to not befriend anyone who wasn't exactly like her at uni, otherwise she would have understood by then that this behavior is not normal at all among her peers. I mean, at that age, the majority of my uni friends had jobs, somewhat long-term relationships, were abroad in Erasmus, making plans for the future, etc. The fact that Ruby was seemingly able to find the one person willing to put up with her childish nonsense and participate in it really says something about the kind of people she was willing to approach.

I agree with a lot of the points raised here. In terms of mental illness, we’ve all definitely seen evidence of an ED with Ruby, however I think that’s the extent of it and I don’t really see anything else going on there.
I think most of her neurotic behaviours do just stem from her personality and are being exacerbated by the environment she is currently in. If she is rejected again from Oxford, we can expect that things will go rapidly downhill for her because it’s clear that she absolutely flounders and has no clue what to do with herself when she isn’t in education.

I don't think getting into Oxford would be good for her mental health. For one she'd have to leave the comfort of her bedroom and she'd be in a new place, people would see her as a poseur almost immediately. I also think the rigour of it would be too much for her. She wouldn't be able to get away with Blakeney or spark notes. I think it would give her the humbling she needs, though.

Not that collar:sick:
In front it looked sloppy and like it was made in 10 minutes with shaking hands, but then she turned around and this massive flap on her back... I have no words

I'm having my own bout of Flu-Bee today!
It's not really the flu (just like hers), just a fever and a headache. I do feel closer to our productivity kween right now.

It couldn't have happened at a worse time. I have an exam in a week, I'm starting a new job the day after that, and yesterday I lost my wallet with all of my id cards, license etc. so in the next few days I also need to travel back to my hometown and get them all re-issued  thankfully I just had about 30€ in it and my bank cards which I blocked immediately. My birth control prescription was in there too so I can't refill it

But I guess I'm lucky I don't have to complete an online test today right?
Update that no one asked for: I'm still sick but somebody found my wallet and I got it back, with the money in it too!

She also chose to highlight her charity work with the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust and her supposedly building a memorial in her school, which is a bold move considering any prospective employer can Google "Ruby Granger Holocaust Memorial" for further details and the first page is just loaded with controversy.

Wait until she starts getting marks and results in from her Masters (where ever she goes) and that whole video of ‘grades don’t matter’ will be thrown right out the video🤦🏻‍♀️ Her whole personality depends on being academically smart, she can’t not depend on good grades for validation.

She’s included shots of Wuthering Heights a lot recently, so I’m guessing that her ‘traditional job’ has something to do with that book. English Lit teaching assistant maybe?
Perhaps she'll be the professional curator of the family's landfill of a home library, teaching mummy her ABCs in her downtime, arranging home lectures for family "frands" and sending Martha a £2,700 late fee for a copy of an Ian McEwan book that she forgot she had in her possession.

Yeah I don't think she is coping well with her school job because in her latest YouTube video it was noticeable to me that the day after she had been at the school working she looked really tired and didn't seem to be her normal happy self.
I wonder if part of the reason she’s reluctant to talk about it is that it’s becoming too much already and she figures if she doesn’t talk about it, no one will know when (if?) she gives up and quits.

And even then, Ruby doesn't make it easy for herself. If her undergraduate is anything to judge by, she applies to the top, oversubscribed colleges who have the pick of the litter. If you don't have the strongest application but you really want to attend Oxford, you should apply to one of the smaller, more modern Oxford Colleges because your chances of admittance would improve tenfold.
This strategy might work in undergrad admissions, but on postgrad level you apply for the course within a specific faculty/department. Once you've been admitted to a course, a College will basically "pick you" by offering you a place, and you usually don't even know what College you'll go to for the first few months after you've been accepted into a programme (and just sort of wait around to be emailed). They try to pick their postgrads according to their personal statements and their specific topics of interest within a field. It really is a much more student-specific experience. You can always state your College preference on the application itself, of course, but it is in no way a guarantee you'll actually be placed there and it has no influence on your "admissibility".

Based on my experience, she should know the results of her application by mid-February, so if she yet again turns suspiciously anti-grades and "the formality of learning in academia" we'll know what's up 👀

Mummy Bones has dropped a new blog entry and you can't convince me that Ruby isn't ghostwriting this shit:

"I think Elizabeth Strout has to be one of my favourite authors, if not my favourite. I just love the style of her writing - it's as if you are reading her diary or letters personally addressed to you. The author manages to convey so much with so few words and keeps your imagination working. The protagonist in Lucy by the Sea is Lucy Barton and this is the fourth book in the series, and is set during the pandemic. I think it is an important book as it reflects a history that we all shared. The book is set in the USA but many of us can relate to Lucy's character during the lockdowns. Even though it is a relatively recent history, it seems light years away and it is interesting to look back and realise how far we have come with vaccines and getting on with our newly structured lives in the wake of the pandemic. Lucy isolates in Maine with her ex-husband, in an old house by the sea, that a friend rents them and is a world away from her bustling life in New York. At first she hates being away from the buzz but slowly melts into her new life at the quiet seaside place she now finds herself with with her ex-husband, who wanted to save her life by taking her there. They talk of air hugs and wearing masks when visiting their daughters, memories of the past and new friends made. They go for daily walks which we all took to help keep our sanity. I loved this book so much and urge you to read it. Elizabeth Strout is a genius writer."

That was a hell of a lot of pointless sentences just to say nothing at all. I'd say self-proclaimed astronomy enthusiast Ruby should remind her mother that light years measure distance, not time, but it's a given that Ruby doesn't know that either.

Also what the hell is a "school-wide postal service"? Just one kid passing everyone else's notes around the school?
Maybe they send them by carrier pigeon. Maybe the postal service is managed by owls. Maybe all letters are written from Ruby to Ruby and delivered by Ruby in her ringmaster's jacket blowing into a trumpet to announce their delivery. 🤷‍♀️ Just musing.

Oh my god she's such an idiot, she's going on about how you miss the beauty in the language when watching Shakespeare's plays. Firstly, they're PLAYS, so they're intended to be performed. Secondly, they're saying the same words?? The performance of the language is still the language?? She's such a fake, it doesn't make you more of a literature lover because you literally prefer reading the words.
because reading while jumping on a trampoline or brushing your teeth is far less obstructive to your enjoyment of the language than *checks notes* listening to it. I guess.

Worrying enough she has no PGCE or similar but she has so little life experience that she will literally be unable to teach and guide children if they need help. Also think she is underestimating how time consuming being an actual teacher is, even if she is only doing it part time she will have to make lesson plans, mark work, make power points, go to meetings and chase up students who were off/late she wont have time for her pointless busy work and 20 books she writing
