I’m sure Blakeney will go on and get a job or do something now, while Ruby will bombard her with messages and letters and calls to be met with no reply as people can’t spend all their time contacting you when they’ve other priorities.

Really why Ruby should have branched out and attempted to make other friends as having “one best friend” and that’s it is pressurised, juvenile and in all likelihood, won’t work out well.

I wrote a few threads ago that she is likely to get into that Master's at Oxford that aligns exactly with her interests (MSt in English 1830-1914, https://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/graduate/courses/mst-english-1830-1914), because they have a high acceptance rate. This programme gets 83 applications a year, and has 65 places for the 2022-23 academic year.
The minimum entry requirements are "a first-class or strong upper second-class undergraduate degree with honours in English literature and/or English language, or exceptionally a related subject." She will have ticked that box now.
Oxford can only save itself by seeing through her application letter, CV etc.
This isn't quite right, the stats are a bit weirdly phrased on the site? The applications aren't grouped (so they only apply to the 1830-1914 MSt) but the places are (so they apply to all seven English MSt programmes). I think there tend to be about 10 a year in each strand, give or take a few.

I just watched Eve Bennett's update video (clearly doing a round up of study youtubers I'd forgotten existed) and wow, what a difference in how she presents compared with Ruby. Seems like she's suddenly grown up, moving to London to pursue a vocational course, living with a boyfriend. I do find it really sad to see people like Ruby and Holly Gabrielle just haven't progressed past education. This studytube stuff probably doesn't help, they seem so socially stunted.
Exactly, Eve seems so different to them all, more mature, and dare I say far more normal.

Ruby should really look at Holly and realise doing a master's is not a good idea. With her grades, Ruby would walk into Oxbridge no problem, sure. But it's more of the same isn't it? Just more top grades, inevitably, no work experience etc. What's Holly doing with hers now, nothing by the looks of it.
If she really wants to be an author she would be better off doing a creative writing type master's - not offered at Oxbridge to my knowledge. For example, Sophie Mackintosh wrote The Water Cure during a similar course at Warwick and it was shortlisted for the Man Booker prize.
Cambridge does have a creative writing masters actually!

Ruby's done the top ten albums trend on TikTok and among the Tchaikovsky/Little Women OST/Harry Potter OST there's Hot Fuss by The Killers?

There’s also Carrie and Lowell by Surname Steepings, and while I’m glad he seems to be gaining a little bit of traction, I’m also forever resentful that C&L and his contribution to CMBYN is all people seem to know. He’s so much more than soft plinkety plonk.

edit: lol I will freely admit that I have a fixation

Ah yes you're right, I see it now. Weird phrasing indeed. Well, that may explain a bit more why she got rejected, if she did indeed apply for a Master's at Oxford, as has been speculated. It's time for her to have a wider horizon than wanting to study at Oxford.

I think she could have a perfectly respectable career and earn enough to sustain a middle class lifestyle. But she can't let go of the idea of being a child protégé and it's holding her back. Respectfully, she doesn't have the skillset for either academia or being an author.

Everyone seems to be talking like she's definitely applying for a masters at Oxford. Is this idle speculation or did I miss something?

Blakeney already has a post-grad job working social media/marketing for a vegan food company from the looks of it.

So she did all her own work, did most of Ruby's work for her, worked as the financial manager for the uni TV studio, did a lot of valuable extracurricular work, did charity work, wrote and published a children's book, didn't run home every five seconds, and had a much more active social life than Ruby. I'd assume she got a very similar grade to Ruby's, if not higher at the end of it, too.

Blakeney's was the experience that you're supposed to have at uni - getting a well-rounded education, getting experience that'll improve your job prospects, learning to be independent, meeting new people, learning new things and having fun. And now she's free of the albatross around her neck that was Ruby.

Meanwhile, Ruby's probably writing unsolicited letters to all her primary school teachers to tell them how proud they should be that she got a FARRST.

Everyone seems to be talking like she's definitely applying for a masters at Oxford. Is this idle speculation or did I miss something?
Ruby has mentioned wanting to do a Masters and has said she aims to apply for one after taking this year out. I don't think she's said Oxford, but given her history and the way she made mummy take her to Oxford so she good gaze lovingly at the buildings she wasn't allowed into and longingly stroke all the student gift shop merch, it's clear she wants to go there and anywhere else would be a disappointment.

Ruby has Studytuber Syndrome - she desperately craves the validation of being accepted to Oxford, because in her mind she's the smartest GAHHHRL who AVVER lived, and only the best academic institution will do (See also: Jack Edwards). They will not accept that their average intelligence, limited ability, lack of appropriate critical thinking and study skills, and complete absence of well-rounded interests and experience makes them a poor fit for a university with such demanding standards, so they keep applying and getting rejected.

Oxford isn't likely to want her. It's entirely possible she applied and was rejected last year and kept quiet about it, which could be one of the reasons she's taking a year out.

Jack has the same grades and very similar experience to Ruby and he's been rejected from Oxford more times than he's had hot meals. And getting accepted might give Ruby an initial boost of validation, but she would be held up to a much higher standard than at Exeter - she won't have the benefit of softball grade inflation. She won't get handed Firsts for "seminar participation" just for raising her hand, spouting gibberish and parroting quotes from critical essays/Blakeney while clearly being unable to speak or understand English.

Her usual cheating tactics and handing in unstructured drivel riddled with errors wouldn't cut it. She was looking utterly destroyed while working on her dissertation and having to try to use her brain and work independently for the first time. She isn't cut out for Oxford and it would demolish her ego.

A Masters will also be completely useless to her other than another way to defer adulthood and attempt to try to prove the narrative that she's an academic genius. Ain't happening.

I wonder if they (the studytubers) threw themselves into studying because of their social difficulties. I mean, if Ruby and Holly always found socialising hard, maybe they overcompensated by focusing on academic work - an area where they felt confident in their abilities - so their studytube channels functioned as a confidence boost as well as a form of avoidance. Of course, the longer people avoid things the harder it gets for them to face the issues, so it's not a good strategy in the long-run.

Has she posted anything on her instagram stories about the grade she got? I’ve just looked on her account and she hasn’t made a post about them

Psml at how no one on Tiktok is taking her crap. I bet she was expecting more of the same filtered praise she gets on YouTube lol
honestly good for her, she can finally see how out of touch she is through the tiktok comments.

Not really related to the current topic of discussion but I wanted to know if I was the only person here who understands less and less what Ruby is pronouncing when she speaks?

English isn’t my first language and I’m hard of hearing (mildly, not severely, but it might play a role) so I usually read @gossip_guy’s amazing summaries to keep in touch but I tried to watch her latest video and found myself unable to understand some of her sentences, sometimes complete ones. And the fact that she tries SO hard to over-articulate words she mispronounces doesn’t help when you try to read on her lips 😂

I know she apparently has a "posh" accent (I actually am terrible at differentiating accents, so I’m believing you all about that) but I could understand her more clearly a few years ago; since a few months, everything she says is gibberish but it also sounds like that! Even the YouTube subtitles can’t help all the time.

It would help a lot if Ruby would stop speeding up her videos and/or just talked more calmly, not trying to act as if she was trying to make a point 24/7 because the end result feels even more rushed than usual in my broken ears.

I haven’t watched it yet but I see myself comparing myself to Eve and ruby and I feel like I’m more ruby. RANT OFF TOPIC? I still live with my parents , I have no friends and I’m in my 4th year. But that’s okay, there’s lots of people my age still living at home and who haven’t found their group of friends or a significant other. Also Eve and ruby make a lot of money off YouTube. But after reading this whole thread I do know I shouldn’t compare myself to them both. Okay end of rant just felt like putting that out there, maybe someone feels the same as me.

not just you don't worry, she tends to slur a lot of sentences together in the same way I do when I'm drunk and it can be hard to tell what she's actually saying plus she sometimes does this faux whisper so you have to strain to listen and I think she speeds up her videos as well.
Not helped by the fact she can't explain things to save her life so I always mis understand what she's actually trying to do

It’s so obvious that both her and Jack Edwards only want in so they can upload the video they’ve been dreaming about for ages. To show that they’d been trying for soooo long and it finally all paid off and they got what they deserved after all those horrific rejections, as if it’s the hardest thing they’d ever done. They want to say that their previous rejections didn’t matter at all because they were always supposed to go, it just was at the wrong time. Instead of admitting that, actually, their rejections were valid. They are so desperate for that validation because I think part of them sees themselves as characters in their own sad English literature who are on a journey that deserve to get into a place so good and they won’t stop until they get their triumph moment over ~evil~
