lol she didn’t intend to ”reinvest” the ad money until after there was significant backlash 😂😂😂 I can’t believe she expects everyone to buy into her bull. That’s the ”good place” her decision came from… her being called out online by a significant number of people. She’s such a greedy little witch, I can’t even.

It's the passive-aggressive "I'm not going to say anymore on it" for me xD Oh boy, sounds like Ruby was pissed that it got brought up. It's also hilarious to see how hard she tries to come off as this sweet, kind, gentle soul in her text messages but the witchy passive-aggressiveness still shines through cause she's not good enough of a writer to hide it xD

Do you think Ruby would have been better finding a good editor rather than an agent? I'm pretty ignorant about the publishing world, so I assumed an agent would also deal with the editing but it seems as though that's not the case and they're just there to represent the book/author and sell the book to publishers. Is that right? I think Ruby's book could benefit from the attention of a decent editor.
Agents do get involved with editing, but it's usually late-stage revisions to polish an already good-to-great quality manuscript. They won't do the editing themselves, they'll just provide notes for the author to go away and work on. It might be easy, obvious suggestions that make the book stronger, like, "Hey, Ruby, you don't need multiple teacher characters who are interchangeable, talk exactly the same and serve the same purpose. Consolidate them into one character." Publishers then have their own editorial team who'll work more in-depth to iron out any structural issues, pacing problems, etc. and dig deeper into all the nitty-gritty tit that might've been missed.

If you're a writer chasing a traditional book deal, hiring your own editor isn't usually a good idea. If someone wants to write professionally, they need to learn to write for themselves - it's a craft that needs to be honed. Authors also aren't expected to be total masters of language, and it's generally okay to misspell something here and there. Agents and editors take a cut of any money you might make to suggest revisions and do that sentence-level editing work, so there's no point in paying someone else to do it, it's just a waste of money. If you're self-publishing, then it's a better idea.

But Ruby's an anomaly. She never should've gotten this far. An agent will rarely, if ever, sign an author based on a messy first draft. It's the last thing any author should be submitting to an agent. They'll always reject that tit immediately, because if page one is a mess of errors, the following 350 pages are likely going to be as bad or worse. The odd spelling mistake or grammatical error is forgivable. Consistent language errors in every paragraph, all in service of poorly-written characters and a structural mess of a shoddy, derivative plot should be Kryptonite to a literary agent. Agents don't get paid until the author gets a book deal and sells their manuscript, so the messier a client's work, the longer they'll have to work with them for free. It's bad business.

Ruby only got signed because she's semi-famous and no other author without her dubious clout would've gotten signed with the same level of shity writing. She should never have gotten this far with the writing she's shown. No publisher will touch it.

Ruby accepted the money, came up with every dubious, dodging excuse she could to avoid giving it back, kept it for a bleeping year and only claimed to have returned it because it was days before the next HMD and she knew that a renewed backlash was coming. There's been zero proof that she actually returned it, or any explanation as to what work she was actually doing with that money in that year besides buying tea and bleeping candles. She clearly did everything she could to keep it and hoped that people would forget she had it.

"Reinvesting back" into the same charity you took money from is not a thing that happens. You say "no thanks, I'll do this for free". You pay for your imaginary vanity projects with your own money. You only accept money and wait a year to give it back if you always intended to keep it.

And that's not even the first and last time she took money from a charitable organisation.

Ruby accepted money from the NHS.

She pledged all ad revenue from multiple videos to Ditch the Label and Unicef and encouraged people to watch all the ads. She's refused to say how much money people helped generate, has never shown proof that any money was donated, and blocks and deletes people who ask about it. She kept that bleeping money.

Her lies and dodgy excuses about her ads for OTE conservation charity made it obvious she took money from them, too.

Ruby has never done anything for any charity when there wasn't payment involved (the lone exception being the Ukraine fundraiser that she had to be dragged kicking and screaming by her agency to take part in to earn some good will). She's an utter bleeping scumbag.

And she looked utterly miserable throughout that fundraiser. I've never seen her look more pissed off.

Yeah for a Study Enthusiast who supposedly studies for hours on end every day because she loves studying and learning she sure looked incredibly unhappy about having to (*checks notes*) sit down and study for 57 minutes! What a sacrifice she made for the good cause! I still remember how relieved she looked when she said "I am going to end the livestream now!". First time she perked up in that whole video lmao
