Yeah, was just going to say I know these things are reversed on the other side of the pond- I did my MLitt with a Canadian girl who got really confused when we were talking about our BA dissertations. To be fair, that is generally what it’s called in the UK - typically you write a long essay and call it a ‘dissertation’ as the culmination of your undergrad studies. The only time I’ve ever heard people talk about theses tends to be for a PhD, it’d be strange to hear an undergrad talking about their thesis.
The StudyTubers all seem to make very heavy weather of it though. When I was at uni, yes it was a longer piece of writing but it was just the equivalent of a single module - or it was possibly the same as a double module, I can’t honestly remember but whilst it was important it wasn’t this massive production, it was just a longer essay. I remember it being the case that years ago if you didn’t write a dissertation you couldn’t get an honours degree (at least that was the case at my uni) but that changed a long time ago and it was just another module that you could take, or not - what ever worked for you.
girly can't even say percent properly. Seriously though she is one of the worst for promoting toxic positivity and hustle culture just because she goes on a nature walk doesn't mean she doesn't promote doing needless busy work and running yourself into the groundRuby: "I am quite perfectionistic when it comes to academics."
Also Ruby: (Refuses to learn basic things like spelling, grammar and punctuation.)
I am syo one handrad PREsent agaynst taxic pradactivity and hustal caltchar. Absalutely one handrad present against it.girly can't even say percent properly. Wow, she spent a year working on it, still finished it like two days before it was due, and was still adding stuff and moving paragraphs around like last week?Omg she sounds SO damn smug and pleased with herself about finishing her dissertation in that video, it's quite something. "I have spent so much time on this", "I wanted to make the most of these last few days" (making it sound like she's gonna die or sth, so unnecessarily dramatic), "it is so satisfying to be able to tick something so big off my todo list", "but of course you didn't just work on it one day, you've been working so hard on it for such a long time", "the dissertation has been one year in the making" (!)...
Maybe I'm just in a foul mood today, but it just makes me sick how self-congratulatory she is here and how much she pats herself on the back for the grand achievement for spending one year working on an undergrad diss that's like what, 10k words? And all that while not having a thing in the world to worry about, not having to work a job to make rent (no, chewing Bird and Blend tea on camera once a week does not count as a regular job in my mind, I'm sorry). Not having to worry about money at all, in fact. Not having to worry about sick parents, or having to care for anyone else, not having to do her own laundry most likely, not volunteering or being politically active or doing literally anything else besides sitting at her desk and writing out draft after draft after draft of her dissertation.
I mean, good for her if she's so damn proud of the grand achievement of spending her life that way, I guess. But something about the way she goes on and on about how great she is and how she was working syo syo hard on perfecting every little detail of that stupid dissertation just makes me irrationally angry.
that was probably kept off cameraI say good on her for having it doneI didn't expect she'd be able to with how she looked in her vlogs... it looked like she was headed for a nervous breakdown.
This is NOT a brag (Don't do it) but I wrote mine in 2 weeks. the fact she took a year is insane. Did she have an extension too? Because they were due ages agoWow, she spent a year working on it, still finished it like two days before it was due, and was still adding stuff and moving paragraphs around like last week?
That's just plain bad planning, I wrote mine from start to finish in six months. And I can bet it was still more focused and less confusing than hers (not that it's hard)
Yeah, this. I could have sworn dissertations are usually due in march/april. Not sure how it is in Exeter but it's very possible she got an extension? This is NOT a brag (Don't do it) but I wrote mine in 2 weeks. the fact she took a year is insane. I really need her to use this year off to go do therapy. I know we're not entitled to knowing that kind of private information, but she obviously has some undiagnosed and untreated mental issues. She said she did therapy when she was younger but it seems like she just gave up and that was that?that was probably kept off camera
but it's coming, as soon as she gets her grade.
Help, my desk has been cluttered from afar by Ruby's disasteration. Her process only gets more ludicrous. Rather than just finally edit her fucking dissertation once and for all, Ruby decides that she's going to procrastinate and overcomplicate things even more by annotating her entire disseration for the 372,946th time and colour-coding the whole thing by category of what needs changing.
