Roobee: Look at meeeee my diss is done! I checked the box, that means it’s PARFECT because I only submit work I’m JANUINELY happy with!

Also Roobee:

Seriously. What’s she ”studying”? She has no exams, she has presumably submitted her various train wrecks.

I know people are mostly interested in seeing what she'll do next year, but I'm more interested in what she'll do between now and graduation (don't know when that usually is in the UK). I hope she doesn't keep on pretending to "study" on Instagram :/

Yeah, was just going to say I know these things are reversed on the other side of the pond- I did my MLitt with a Canadian girl who got really confused when we were talking about our BA dissertations.

I'm pretty sure a dissertation still is a pretty big part of an Arts & Humanities degree. I did my undergrad ten years ago but my MLitt in 2019-2020 and we had a couple of people in our group who had gone straight from their undergrad to Masters, and the experience was the same. If it was a single honours degree, you had to do the dissertation unit (and it was the equivalent of a full module, it just took place over the majority of the year with the advisory stuff included, but the actual 'writing' part of the module was a term), but if you did a joint honours (so, English Lit and History, or English Lit and Theatre etc) you got to choose a) to do a dissertation and/or b) which subject to do the diss module in. For the English Lit, Creative Writing and Practice degree where I did my undergrad, they could either choose a Lit dissertation, an extended portfolio piece for Creative Writing, or crazy people did both.

Also, was thinking- an MA/MLitt dissertation is only another 5000 words, give or take. It seems a lot but even that extra wordcount wouldn't allow Rubix Cube to do all the 'exchra rehsurch' she is intent on shoe-horning in.

I'd love to read the mess, I honestly would, even as an exercise in my future career lol (hoping to pick up some teaching in my second year of PhD).

She finished her dissertation ??? nah I refuse to believe that.. Given the state of the previous draft there's no way...
Now I'm really curious about the final submission !!

Yeah there’s no way she went from the absolute shitshow of yesterday’s video to magically being finished in today’s video. At the very least she’s omitted a few days, I doubt very much she would’ve kept mum on insta if she had in fact finished her diss last week

My educated* guess is that she called it done as soon as she’d managed to get the word count down to what it was supposed to be.

*education in this case = having spent an inordinate amount of time watching Roobee videos

Ruby: "I am quite perfectionistic when it comes to academics."
Also Ruby: (Refuses to learn basic things like spelling, grammar and punctuation.)

The title of the video is "Finishing my dissertation & reflecting on hustle culture". She obviously didn't finish her dissertation as much as just gave up and handed in whatever mess she'd made because she had no time left, and she says she'll reflect on hustle culture in another video.

Ruby, unless you're going to sit down, acknowledge your role in that and admit culpability for being a driving force for toxic productivity, then maybe do yourself a favour and don't make a video about hustle culture. Your influencer career is built on a foundation of lies, fabricated achievements and impossible timelines meant to drive naive impressionable young people to feel inferior and work themselves to death trying to chase a completely unattainable goal as they try desperately to emulate you.

The last thing anyone wants is your dumb-as-rocks narcissistic ass performatively moaning about hustle culture like you're not part of the problem. Take that shit into the woods and tell it to the bluebells. Nobody else wants to hear it.

She still had referencing left to do?? Isn't it due really soon? That's not very organised or dark macademia of her

Does anyone know when the Exeter dissertation marks come in? When can we expect a reaction video?

girly can't even say percent properly. Seriously though she is one of the worst for promoting toxic positivity and hustle culture just because she goes on a nature walk doesn't mean she doesn't promote doing needless busy work and running yourself into the ground

Ruby's "excited face" now that she's all done with her dissertation!

Omg she sounds SO damn smug and pleased with herself about finishing her dissertation in that video, it's quite something. "I have spent so much time on this", "I wanted to make the most of these last few days" (making it sound like she's gonna die or sth, so unnecessarily dramatic), "it is so satisfying to be able to tick something so big off my todo list", "but of course you didn't just work on it one day, you've been working so hard on it for such a long time", "the dissertation has been one year in the making" (!)...

Maybe I'm just in a foul mood today, but it just makes me sick how self-congratulatory she is here and how much she pats herself on the back for the grand achievement of spending a whole year working on an undergrad diss that's like what, 10k words? And all that while not having a thing in the world to worry about, not having to work a job to make rent (no, chewing Bird and Blend tea on camera once a week does not count as a regular job in my mind, I'm sorry). Not having to worry about money at all, in fact. Not having to worry about sick parents, or having to care for anyone else, not having to do her own laundry most likely, not volunteering or being politically active or doing literally anything else besides sitting at her desk drinking expensive, non-fairtrade tea and writing out draft after draft after draft of her dissertation.

I mean, good for her if she's so damn proud of the grand achievement of being able to spend her life that way, I guess. But something about the way she goes on and on about how great she is and how she was working syo syo hard on perfecting every little detail of that stupid dissertation just makes me irrationally angry.

Wow, she spent a year working on it, still finished it like two days before it was due, and was still adding stuff and moving paragraphs around like last week?
That's just plain bad planning, I wrote mine from start to finish in six months. And I can bet it was still more focused and less confusing than hers (not that it's hard)

I say good on her for having it done I didn't expect she'd be able to with how she looked in her vlogs... it looked like she was headed for a nervous breakdown.

that was probably kept off camera
but it's coming, as soon as she gets her grade.

This is NOT a brag (Don't do it) but I wrote mine in 2 weeks. the fact she took a year is insane. Did she have an extension too? Because they were due ages ago

Yeah, this. I could have sworn dissertations are usually due in march/april. Not sure how it is in Exeter but it's very possible she got an extension?

I really need her to use this year off to go do therapy. I know we're not entitled to knowing that kind of private information, but she obviously has some undiagnosed and untreated mental issues. She said she did therapy when she was younger but it seems like she just gave up and that was that?
If she came clean about faking her image and shared her struggles with people openly and honestly, it would have a much greater impact than any productivity video she ever did.

Not fully caught up yet, so just replying to gossip guy's recap.

Help, my desk has been cluttered from afar by Ruby's disasteration.

The images were so amusing I had to copy and paste them into a grumpy grid.

Those teeny tiny meals look so unappetising. Watery carrot bowl...mmm. I think the saddest one is the thimble-sized cornflake pea mixture. It's actually making me depressed.
