I’m surprising myself with what I’m about to write but during my A level year (many moons ago) I didn’t go out during the day (because I went out at night!) so wouldn’t go to places like that with my parents - especially when it is 1.5 hours drive away (I used to live near Roobee). But I think it’s more disturbing because she probably didn’t do anything else at all- like seeing friends in the evenings or house parties at weekends, or sports or arts or anything that wasn’t “academic”

Also I know it has been bought up a bit (mostly to do with the weightloss) and I know she says she regrets it a bit now but I really don't understand how teachers while Ruby was at school nor Ruby's parents did not do anything about her obsessiveness in studying and being productive. I know for me I had a time where I was very, very similar to Ruby, and teachers were warning my parents just from what I was doing at school, and it wasn't like I had a Youtube channel with thousands of subscribers documenting what I was doing (or claim to be doing) at home as well.
Maybe they did try, but from she has described it it honestly seems like they just let her study and obsess over doing as much as she possibly can each day for unhealthy hours on end.

I don’t think she is obsessed with filling her entire day productively, I think she’s obsessed with letting everyone believe she is busy all day - big difference.

And it's a terrible foundation for a video, presenting the contents of this list as necessary to succeed at uni (especially as it's a mishmash of advice awkwardly trying to appeal to both school students and university students). So much of it is common sense taken to the extreme - pack your bag, declutter from last year, if you have any work/reading that needs to be done by week 1 then maybe get a start on it now. But there's absolutely no need for these constant lists and planners and obsessing over Notion documents - she doesn't realise the impact she has on her audience, especially those who see her as a knowledgeable and put-together authority figure.

I never feel like she loves reading for the enjoyment of reading,
I feel like she loves the aesthetic, the tag, the status it gives her when she can throw in “vintage” or “first edition” or show off her bookshelf.

Like she’d talk about pearls or lace in the same way as she would books.
it all feels so performative.
i would read and adore a tatty charity shop book with no ”history” or a book downloaded on a device just as much as a “10th century..... limited edition.... Victorian era..... etc, etc, etc” book

Her personality seems so. Empty. It’s all about appearance for social media

I wouldn’t put it past her. She gets such a constant stream of validation and adoration from her young fans that anything less than that is obviously just wrong and we’re being mean to dainty innocent little Rubes.

loads of people have been reading this book recently or putting it on their tbr. the "public shamings" it is about are also much, much bigger scale than anything ruby came ever close to experiencing, so i'm not sure what you are wanting to say?

Well, Ruby has compared her fictional bullying experience to the experiences of Nazi concentration camp survivors before, so I'm not sure perspective is something she's familiar with.

thanks for the suggestions!! i got a pretty good planner from tesco last year although it was quite basic. i'll check out those you've mentioned!

i like ruby (although i wish she'd stop posting such triggering content, i worry for her and her audience ) but i just couldn't justify it for £15 or so.

She looks so unhappy in all of her latest instagram pictures - even while smiling. And why is she lighting a candle and getting so weirdly happy over that? Did I miss something?
