I posted a similar sentiment about a property upthread in the early part. I do some volunteering stuff and have learned since that it might not be hoarding per se - an ageing population, some elderly people have no help, no visitors and poor mobility. It doesn’t take long before a once well kept house falls into a sad state. Add to that depression, dependencies etc. It is sad.

Some of the houses I used to do supermarket deliveries to were heading down that route. So sad when they opened the door and what you would see. But never judge them. There were a couple of the old folks that weren't very mobile and so liked the food to be brought in to their kitchen, generally it would be ordered for them by their absentee offspring who presumably thought that ordering a load of food to be delivered was the extent of of their duty. Those ones I would always try to stop for five or ten minutes and just chat tit with them, we might be the only people they saw all week. Luckily the supermarket I worked for is a fairly kind one and was supportive of us parking up and stopping to chat to the elderly customers so long as it didn't throw the schedule out too much. Except for the odd old bat that were proper karens, always moaning about something or phoning the store to see how high they could make the manager's eyes roll, those ones would be known by all and thoroughly mocked by everyone back at the store!
Anyway if that house is on for £150k in an area that normally sells for £250k, so long as the roof etc is OK, it could be an absolute bargain? Easy enough to pay to get it cleared, will be done in a day. Then just gut everything else back to the shell and start again!
the funniest thing is the random furniture left there while the place has been gutted, that office chair for exampleA lick of paint, some new curtains, and this one’ll be good to go.

My mum was always very house proud. Now she has dementia and she just doesn’t see the dirt or mess anymore. It’s very sad.
