I remember when they elected Francis and I was shocked that they chose a Jesuit. That choice in and of itself was radical to my lapsed Catholic ears. Jesuits aren't the company men of the Vatican, more like the rebels, educators and social justice warriors in touch with the real world. It is a shame he never seemed to have the most robust of health. He spoke up on climate change, working on interfaith relations and in particular with Islam, supporting refugees, progressive in regard to the gay community, wealth inequality and had been outspoken on the war on Gaza as he could be. No female priests yet.

I fear the Vatican is going to swing back to lame conservative dickheads again. RIP Pope Francis.
