A few posters have mentioned ‘toxic stuff’ ... what kind of stuff? I always find it quite hard to use unless I’m looking for something really specific.

I like reddit, there's a lot of interesting and funny stuff on it. Some comments just make me laugh so much.
What I don't like about it is that it had quite a hive mind mentality, if you have a different opinion about anything, you'll likely get downvoted. Also the amount of porn on it, yawn

I find this so strange, I’ve never thought reddit was hard to use! If I want to learn about anything, take up a new hobby or even check the news I do it all on Reddit.

U/ is a link to a user, r/ is a subreddit so like a board for a specific topic.
Those are the main ones!
I am just new to Reddit . As a reddit regular can you point me in the direction of any boards with stories of people’s lucky escapes / near misses e.g missing a plane on Sep 11th. I love reading those kind of stories .

Reddit is great. I use the app. You make it work for yourself by following subreddits you’re interested in. It’s very easy to navigate on the app. For instance I follow skincare subs, weightloss, music, British tv, a few of my favourite artists etc. There are subs for pretty much everything. If you like Doctor who or game of thrones or the office etc etc there are big subs purely for one show.

there’s really a sub for anything you can think of.

I follow random stuff too like submechanophobia, catastrophic failures, damn that’s interesting, interesting as duck, last images, what could go wrong, relationships, confessions etc etc

I joined Reddit in March. Still getting to grips with it. The UK subs seem to be ok but the others can get quite intense.

I’m also trying to understand how tattle works.

I’m not great with IRL interactions and am finding online interactions almost as difficult. When am I allowed to speak? Am I offending someone?

I’m trying to make an effort as I’ve been alone since March and I’m worried I’ll forget how to string a normal sentence together. I talk/type a lot at work but it’s quite technical and I don’t want to end up talking like a robot!

I guess ' toxic stuff' would depend on your personal and political views. I follow a couple of main subs like AmITheAsshole (really recommend that one) and relationship advice. Its within the comments esp the top ones that have a thousand likes and up, that have some real offensive toxic tit thats spread around. A heck load of Misogny, Racism, Fatphobia and Body Shaming - for me all of that is pretty toxic. I've encountered so many comments on even neutral subs that are very hateful towards women.

I wonder in some way if thats because such a high percentage of Reddit users are men

I’ve been on there about 4 years now. It took me a really long time to navigate it. I don’t think it’s particularly user friendly for new users.

I like the unresolved mysteries and true crime subs.. can get lost for hours in those.

There's a history of misogyny and racism on reddit. Subreddits around 'men going their own way', incels, large people hate (sorry, that is what it was called, it's horrible). The owners of reddit have done an OK job at kicking out the extreme stuff but some of the culture still lingers. If you find a specific reddit around an interest you like, chances are you won't encounter any of that stuff. I'm on blogsnark (a milder, US focused tattle) and a few parenting subreddits.

There is a subreddit that potentially borders on toxic in that some contributors can take things too far and go ‘real life’, something I see that is strongly discouraged here on Tattle Life thank goodness.

The subreddit is ‘Illness Fakers’ ... some of the people featured there are blatantly faking illness, though others may have genuine illnesses / disabilities but are over the top, give out false information and / or seek money from supporters.

All have a social media presence so are easily looked up but I warn you, once you go down that rabbit hole you will possibly be so enraged and disgusted as to how far people go for attention.

I'm a huge fan!

I love the facepalm threads.

Though I did accidentally stumble across porn, which I wasn't expecting when I was searching up for the quiverfull movement. It did warn me and say 18+. :ROFLMAO:

There’s a good one called I Didn’t Have Eggs which is a sub for reviews left on recipe blogs by people who clearly didn’t follow the recipe eg “I made this banana bread but left out the bananas and it was terrible. 1 star”

Legal Advice UK is good for some outright, cheeky behaviour by some people.
