I'm obsessed with Reddit! You have to make an account and follow subs that you're interested in. I follow some of the subs about scary real-life encounters (Letsnotmeet and Creepyencounters are good), one called 'Am I the asshole' (users comment on a situation about who was in the wrong), and a few niche equestrian ones.

I find it's more like forums were back in the day, rather than social media. I preferred the Internet when it was all forum-based and that's why I like it. I feel like it's got an older crowd than most social media, too. God, I am sounding ancient. Bring back Ask Jeeves! :sneaky:

Is it just me that doesn’t quite get it? I love some of the content but I only read it when I’ve followed a link to a thread over there, on my own I can’t navigate it and find it difficult to search or read it.

its just me isn’t it?........😂

There's a ghost story one called nosleep too, which is quite good but I had to leave it as I was sh*tting myself reading it alone in the house haha.

If you search for the 'best of' letsnotmeet you should find threads compiling some of the most incredible stories - there's one here but there will be older collections too. A lot of them get 'verified' as true too - like people escaping murderers and they send the sub admin copies of police records to prove they're not making it up and then the thread gets a note on to say it's verified. It's SO interesting.

I agree it's kind of amazing for very very niche topics, so yeah, joining v specific forums is the way to go. Also love some of the dark confessional shit you can read on there, like parents regretting kids, or affairs, etc.

Letsnotmeet and creepyencounters sound fascinating, I will have to check them out!

I definitely think programmers deliberately make certain platforms, Reddit, Instagram, TikTok etc, to have features which make it difficult for people over a certain age to use 😂

I do use it from time to time, usually to get opinion or find stuff out after watching a film/TV show, but I've no idea how to go about making a thread myself. And yes I find it tricky to navigate too!

There’s a good one called I Didn’t Have Eggs which is a sub for reviews left on recipe blogs by people who clearly didn’t follow the recipe eg “I made this banana bread but left out the bananas and it was terrible. 1 star”

Legal Advice UK is good for some outright, cheeky behaviour by some people.

Have never taken to Reddit, especially its rather random navigation.

Some love it, but it doesn't do anything for me other than uttering a few choice words when I can't find what I want through the swathes of threads and posts

I find this so strange, I’ve never thought reddit was hard to use! If I want to learn about anything, take up a new hobby or even check the news I do it all on Reddit.

I can't get my head around it. What does it mean when a thread starts u/ or b/ etc.
U/ is a link to a user, r/ is a subreddit so like a board for a specific topic.
Those are the main ones!

It’s alright. I mostly use it to read about and discuss my favourite video games. There’s a sub for basically everything, hobbies, tv shows, films etc and they are generally really informative places in my experience.

Some parts of Reddit can be toxic but I just stick to the lighthearted stuff.

I joined Reddit in March. Still getting to grips with it. The UK subs seem to be ok but the others can get quite intense.

I’m also trying to understand how tattle works.

I’m not great with IRL interactions and am finding online interactions almost as difficult. When am I allowed to speak? Am I offending someone?

I’m trying to make an effort as I’ve been alone since March and I’m worried I’ll forget how to string a normal sentence together. I talk/type a lot at work but it’s quite technical and I don’t want to end up talking like a robot!

Not listened to that podcast yet but I really want to!

I'd recommend using reddit on your laptop rather than your phone... it's much easier

A few posters have mentioned ‘toxic stuff’ ... what kind of stuff? I always find it quite hard to use unless I’m looking for something really specific.
I guess ' toxic stuff' would depend on your personal and political views. I follow a couple of main subs like AmITheAsshole (really recommend that one) and relationship advice. Its within the comments esp the top ones that have a thousand likes and up, that have some real offensive toxic shit thats spread around. A heck load of Misogny, Racism, Fatphobia and Body Shaming - for me all of that is pretty toxic. I've encountered so many comments on even neutral subs that are very hateful towards women.

I wonder in some way if thats because such a high percentage of Reddit users are men

There's a history of misogyny and racism on reddit. Subreddits around 'men going their own way', incels, fat people hate (sorry, that is what it was called, it's horrible). The owners of reddit have done an OK job at kicking out the extreme stuff but some of the culture still lingers. If you find a specific reddit around an interest you like, chances are you won't encounter any of that stuff. I'm on blogsnark (a milder, US focused tattle) and a few parenting subreddits.

Ive never read actual Reddit (I’m not great at navigating the website)

But I listen to YouTube videos to fall asleep mainly things like

“most disturbing threads on Reddit”
“Reddit confessions”

etc etc.

Do you listen to the let's not meet podcast? I love it!

As for Reddit, it confuses me 😅 but I think I'll give it another go this weekend.

I love Reddit. I use the app which is easy to navigate. There’s a forum (aka subreddit) for everything. Just find ones that suit your interests and stay away from all the toxic stuff. I follow lots of cats, cooking, and a few interesting ones like Justice Served, Instagram Reality, Idiots in Cars, Wedding Shaming.
