Personally I don’t think children need to go to nursery or school.
My kids did very well without nursery but I believe it’s because we spent time mixing with other children (children of all ages, not just their peers) and adults, I spent a lot of time with them doing things like colours, shapes, working on major and fine motor skills, recognising their name, doing arts and crafts, spent time reading to them, visiting places like the library, museums, farms, etc. Never went to baby groups as they aren’t my thing. My children are well rounded, happy to interact with others and those outside their peer groups, smart, polite, think outside the box and on.
But, and there is a but, if you don’t do these things and don’t send Your kid to nursery then they will be at a disadvantage if they go to school. That’s why we have early years education in this country. It’s not childcare but is there to help children get up to speed and help all kids enter school at a level playing field.
Woody isn’t three yet, I imagine once he hits three Reb will absolutely send him to nursery. And it’s looks like he will probably need it! If when he hits three and Reb doesn’t do the things I’ve mentioned above then I would really start to worry and talk about it here.
Reb and Steve, we know you read here, you CAN do all of those things I mentioned above with Woody now! You don’t have to wait for nursery to start it or till he’s older. It’s not difficult, you can google anything!
