Just listened to the first episode of The Trial podcast by Daily Mail, covering the Holly Willoughby kidnap plot trial. I am utterly HORRIFOED by what I have heard! It is so scary, her world must have been turned upside down when she was told the details.

Something I'm confused about in the Karen Read trial.

She drops him off (ignore for now whether it was snowing at the time or not (because it was later))), he doesn't come home,, or answer any of her numerous calls...
Why is it so incriminating that she googles "how long does it take to die of cold" - or whatever the exact wording was...
KR didn't Google it Jen McCabe did. She says that sue did it when they found Johm around 6/6.30 as Karen asked her to but one of the searches is timestamped around 2.15 but experts have said this was because she searched on a tab she had opened at 2.15.

Yeah, it honestly seems like she became a prison officer because she wanted to make this porn of having sex with prisoners which is an insane level of commitment to your career but how the fuck did she get past the checks they must do!?
That's how I see it aswell. I really hope they throw the book at her but there must be questions answered and how she got a job. Are there no background checks?

The Karen Read trial is re tarded...

The fact that the prosecution is objecting to just about every question speaks volumes about was a twat Proctor is.

Yeah, they often use morphine combined with midazolam which I believe wouldn’t really be used together in any other context because of the increased risks - but in late palliative care it’s an acceptable risk.
Yes we use both in palliative care (nurse here) but can’t say they’re ever given for anything other than symptom control (together for pain and agitation if suffering from both, or just one or the other at one time). They wouldn’t be given over and over though in a short time period or for any other reason other than what they’re prescribed for.

This was all so awful. I’m relieved for the family that she was found, but they had to wait for so, so long.
Having read that, a bag of limbs - I didn’t know that detail before 😔
I’d not seen that before either. As if it could have got any worse for Leah’s family 😢

Watching the fall out of the Karen Read trial.

I do find myself cautioning Karen Read to be careful.
She is neither as a sympathetic or believable as she thinks she is.

Medical professionals aren’t allowed to finish off patients with morphine. Not since Shipman. Unless you mean something other than a deliberate overdose?
And the police involved involved also.

From Facebook they are saying he died by suicide and left a note on his instagram. The article says that his girlfriend was seen crying outside the house but I think the DM must have got that wrong as he was dating Lauren Evans who has also died. I have a horrible feeling it could be a murder suicide?

This article says it’s a murder investigation and that the police had prior contact with one of them.
If you read the top article it refers to how neighbours told the media that he had moved into the property approx 16 months ago with his gf and they had since split up. They then refer to his current girlfriend being outside grieving. I’m presuming the victim Lauren Evans was the gf he had moved in with. Whether they were both still living there or one of them had moved out? It’s odd that paramedics were there and then called police after breaking in. Who called the ambulance ? Or where they looking for him as he was due on shift ?

Jury is back in the Karen read trial.
---
Karen Read jury still hung.
---
Karen Read jury have been told to reach a decision by the judge and sent out again.
---
Apparently one the jurors - who according to some is the hold out - was crying
Good grief, how did we ever manage in the past? I struggle with this thing where people are just emotionally incontient all over the place now. Not saying we should be robots, and we've seen what going too far the other way and not being socially able to express emotion can do to people but it's a joke now.

As far as Karen Read goes, I totally believe she's innocent and will be disgusted if it's a guilty verdict. I'm expecting one though :(

Just watched a report on the BBC lunchtime news about the Wimbledon private school crash and the current and former headteachers feel very upset and let down by the police investigation. They mentioned “unanswered questions”. Clearly, they feel there was more to this incident than a woman having a seizure behind the wheel for the first time ever.

A seizure is certainly a plausible explanation. But in the context of such a horrific crash killing two little girls and injuring others, I can totally understand that blaming it on an out-of-the-blue seizure might feel a bit too convenient?

It seems the two women were hinting that they had some knowledge that they feel was not investigated fully.

I guess we can speculate endlessly but it makes me think of a member of my family, a functioning alcoholic, who started to suffer seizures after alcohol binges and crashed their car on at least 3-4 occasions. They lied through their teeth about what happened and would never admit their alcoholism, let alone that the blackouts were alcohol-related.

It could even be that the woman in question had suffered seizures/blackouts in the past but carried on driving because they knew that the DVLA requires people to not drive for a period of 12 months after any sort of seizure. It’s a huge loss of independence and some people, selfishly, refuse to give up driving even though it’s clear to all that they’re not safe behind the wheel.
Maybe I'm far too trusting but I really struggle with suggestions that there's more to it without anyone actually putting forward a credible argument for why.

I completely understand the frustrations at the length of time taken to investigation, but the Met have given a very reasonable - if disappointing - explanation for that. Traffic incidents are clearly a hugely underresourced and complex field, and a protracted investigation doesn't mean the outcome was wrong

Some of the comments from the headteachers just come across as deeply unhelpful. It doesn't even sound like she was an eyewitness...is it unreasonable for the police to not have taken her statement then?

It's a horrific loss for the families and of course they are angry that someone can't be blamed, but horrific accidents are often just that.

There might be something that caused it that showed up in tests after the fact I suppose, eg a brain tumour or other brain damage? Something that makes it very likely she did have a fit that she didn’t know about before.
Quoting myself like an idiot but another option is she had more after that were seen etc. The balance of probability there would be that she’d had one behind the wheel, it would be a vanishingly small chance that she claimed to have had one behind the wheel for the first time and then had one spontaneously in hospital or at the scene etc.

My thoughts keep coming back to this. Clearly the driver of the car is incredibly wealthy. Living in that part of London, sending their child to that school, driving that enormous custom painted luxury car (I have never seen a vehicle like that before in my life).

I can imagine a driver who fits that demographic not being hauled over the coals as aggressively as someone from a much less privileged background.
Her husband is an investment banker. They will be eye wateringly wealthy. I commented up thread - if you google his name he involved in quite a major deal with Mike Ashley.
I think the wealth and privilege can help you articulate and advocate better. But I don't believe it can make you innocent.
There must be some medical evidence (that we are not privy to) that indicates a seizure has taken place.

From the last thread Lawyer you Know is covering the case and he said after the latest hearing in effect she keeps this lawyer or she will have to represent herself.

I think she is trying to get them to lie and the delays are ultimately down to her as she keeps complaining about her lawyers, if she hadn't changed so many times she would probably have had her trial by now.

I watched the Football Fraudster on Netflix last night (think it was ITV originally) it’s mad what people will do if they think they are doing it for a celebrity even if they’ve only just met them

Has anyone been following the story of Jay Slater who has gone missing in Teneriefe?
It looks like it's a bit more complicated than him simply going missing walking back in the early hours from a party .
There's a thread on this case now if you want to join us. Sorry I'm not sure how to link it 😅
