The smugness from not taking HRT comes from the same place as the smugness from having a natural childbirth. Not sure why these women want to put themselves on a pedestal, there's no prizes given out.

How do you know when you need HRT? I am nearly 48 and as far as I know have no menopausal symptoms as yet, I have insomnia but have always had that. I have a few friends my age who take HRT and think that i should be too. I don’t currently take the pill so get no hormones from this.
My mam was 58 when she went through the menopause but had peri symptoms from late 30s, suffered terrible anxiety etc and now has bladder issues that when she needs a wee she needs it now. I know my mam had HRT but only seemed to be prescribed it for a couple of years, probably wouldn’t have these symptoms if had taken it for longer.

I’m at the stage I’m going to kill my husband 🤬 he’s been pushing my buttons for a few weeks now, il be sitting watching the tv and he will come in and say you look in a mood, your face is tripping you, it’s your choice to stay in it or come out if it 🤬🤬🤬 I tried to explain to him that the more he comes at me with these comments the longer it will take but I feel he’s going out his way to get a reaction from me 🤬 he asked me when will the menopause stop I said this is it there is no end date NO CONSIDERATION FOR ME only him 🤬🤬🤬
Don't make excuses for someone being unkind to you because the perimenopause is making you irritable and short tempered.

That cuts both ways though. Being in peri menopause doesn't give women a free pass to treat their partners badly. There needs to be understanding on both sides. The amount of times I've been told by women that they didn't have any symptoms while their partner and children stand there gobsmacked because they have taken the brunt of the moods

I'm nearly 47 and tick about 90% of the peri symptoms. Some are mild and infrequent and others are very regular.

My Mum had a hysterectomy at younger than I am now and went on HRT and I remember her saying it saved her. She sadly passed away 18yrs ago, so I have no direct female family member to talk thing through with, or even compare myself too.

I often wonder when I'll ask about HRT. I can cope with what I'm feeling now, but I am one of life's 'copers' and tend to dismiss a lot or talk myself into giving things more time.

I have considered speaking to a Dr about it, but with what I've anecdotally read I don't think I'd get very far at my age.
I use the balance app to track my symptoms, so when I see those lines going up dramatically I think I'll speak to someone and can then use that as evidence.
I also tell myself to be honest because this isn't something I can fight like most things.

I have family history on both sides with dementia and my brain fog has really worried me, so that's another reason I've given myself a talking to about not waiting

Honestly I'd go on it now, you're already having symptoms

I do consider it, but the passed 2mths all I've had is a few night sweats, really sore boobs and some serious bloating.

The more serious things I was suffering have gone away, which is why I feel I can cope again. Rewind about 4/5mths though and I was a mess, but thankfully all that hasn't come back!

So many long term benefits to taking HRT

Absolutely, but finding a doctor who is willing to give it at what they perseve as a young age and in their book minor symptoms will be a mission.

My mental health right now is good, but to gear myself up for the fight and be let down I cba with.
Being a general patient now needing treatment is hard enough, and being a woman needing help is proper tough so this will be unbelievably hard and I don't know if I have the energy 😔

It's like doctors need you at breaking point from what I've read and heard

Did anyone experience palpitations? I’m 38 but have been having peri menopausal symptoms for around a year, extremely bad in the last six months. Last month I’ve also started to get hot flushes and TMI leaky nipples. I’ve had numerous blood tests, scans and even an MRI but still no answers. They’ve all ignored my suggestions that it’s hormonal because ‘I’m too young’. Although my mum was menopausal from 32!!!! I’m seeing a menopause specialist privately now and I hope she’ll see I’m not just ‘stressed’. I’m only bloody stressed because of my symptoms. The exhaustion and brain fog is beyond anything I’ve experienced before. Also have extremely dry eyes and skin, hair is thinning, the tummy!

I think you can quote NICE guidelines at GPs about HRT or asked to be referred to a menopause clinic.

Yes I get palpitations from time to time, usually at night when I'm in bed trying to sleep. I'm keeping a diary of symptoms that I think may be peri-related. Not counting on seeing my GP any time soon, it took 3 months to get her to give me a simple answer on something else. I'm trying to motivate myself to get into doing exercise again, to get rid of the belly...

Yeah my symptoms get worse at night from about 4pm onwards. Also they get worse at certain points in my cycle. I’ve been tracking it all. Dr said ‘you had a baby in 2020 so you CANT be menopausal’. But….. that’s just not how the menopause works, even I know that 🤨 All I know is that I feel crap and it’s hit me like a ton of bricks. That’s why I’ve gone private now. I’ve had enough.

Jesus bleeping christ that's embarrassingly ignorant. That needs a formal complaint

Honestly, thats just the tip of the iceberg. Some of the things they’ve said and done to me these past few months you would not believe. Its lucky no serious harm has been done. Can’t really discuss what’s happened as it might identify me, but yes, I’ll be complaining about this and the rest once the brain fog is better.

Have you been to the docs and had your FSH levels checked?

I’m in my 30s and I’m currently in my 3rd year of taking HRT. I basically educated myself, went with a symptom checker from the menopause society and then listed what I thought I needed.

sadly, there’s so much negativity about giving younger people HRT because of the “risks”. I just ended up fighting my corner and demanding blood tests to prove I was in menopause

I'm in peri, not menopause just yet.

Around 12 mths ago I was having major palpations and spoke to a GP.
I did mention peri and tests and she said that the FSH levels can change daily so unless I was under 30 they wouldn't do those tests. She said that at my age they go on symptoms and that as far as she was concerned with the list I gave her that it was perimenopause.

She took the palpations seriously though and had me in that day for my BP and referred me for a 24hr heart monitor, although she agreed to this after me telling her about my family history.
The cardiologist had no worries at all looking at the results and said it could be age/stress and signed me off.
I still get them now, but not on the same chest crashing scale that I was.
