Honestly don't be. I was so scared first visit. By the time I was on 3rd visit I was going on like I owned the gaff. Some prisons are first come first served so try get there early.

Hi Ex Probation Officer here!
when they do your vetting they will want all the details of your current close family and partner. They are looking for anything that might lead you to be vulnerable to bribery.
If you are concerned they might pick up on the fact you have been on prison visits before (by searching the system or whatever) there is a box for any additional info and you could mention you have an ex partner whom you used to visit in prison but you no longer have contact with and just play completely dumb about knowledge of him being on the run or wanted on a recall.
their main concern would be that you were or could be coerced into bringing things into the prison.

Thanks so much for this . I actually wanted to be a probation officer /probation services officer and thought this would be a good way of getting into it . I think I may be have been a bit nieve though after reading this thread … being with an offender for years and knowing his friends and being on visits I thought it may be rewarding to try and rehabilitate people but I actually don’t know if I could cope with the confrontation.
I have a few more questions for you if you don’t mind me asking ! When there’s a recall warrant for breaking bail conditions and then additional charges from the police and you miss the court date as you’ve fled the country .. what happens then ? Can you just stay out the country forever and not come back ? Also do you normally go back to the Jail you were last in ? Trying to work out what will happen to my ex partner . There’s no love lost there as he was stupid enough to mess up quite badly when he had all the chances but curious to know what will happen to him .

Hello . Just asking as I'm very curious after following the Mahek Bukhari and Lucy Letby trials earlier this year - what typically happens to convicts' social media and online accounts (like email), especially for those who are imprisoned for a long time?
Do they just get abandoned, unless they've specified for a family member or friend to manage them? I've noticed that Mahek Bukhari's Instagram is still active, my cousin's husband's (he's in prison) Snapchat account still shows up as a suggestion for me, and another distant family member's Facebook account is still up but hasn't been updated since he was imprisoned (though he may be out now)...
It just feels very weird coming across their profiles.

I sometimes watch Babies behind bars I think it's called. It's on itvx usually in the evening.
There isn't any drama really but quite sad to see them bringing up their children inside.

I saw that when browsing , was it only American prisons? I would like to see a UK version

The reason for limiting the amount of choc, fizzy drinks etc was because of how much they can store.

I was in for 10 months. Absolute poop hole.

Ive been inside, too. But luckily I got out before the lockdown.
I've seen it change a lot over the years. First in 2004, then last out 2019. x.

I've recently been watching that 60 Days In Jail (Only the first 4 though as I think after that there's no way anyone wouldn't know)

Has anything like this been tried in Britain? Or is it just too small of an Island for people to just be dropped in. I suppose as we don't have jails it makes it a bit harder as well, you'd really have to know your stuff with the charges.

I think it would be easier here as I don't get all this concept of warrants in this state but not in another, felonys, bonds blah blah blah here they could just say got remanded as no fixed address for bail or something.

They tend to have induction wings here unlike America.

As far as I know there's been nothing similar in the UK except the Grant Mitchell actor (minds gone blank for his name sorry ) did a documentary where he stayed a night in a jail but it might have been in America can't remember.

Hi, there would be a certain level of safeguarding as they would be singled out and targeted for violent attacks without a doubt.
Statistically there aren’t anywhere near enough convicted female sex offenders to warrant a whole prison or even perhaps a wing. In the male prison estate there are whole prisons that hold mostly sex offenders.
likelihood for female sex offenders is they would be segregated from other prisoners and have protected recreational time.

Background; I’ve worked in the prison service for 6 years now. Worked in YOI estate (15-18) and I’m currently at a Cat C training prison in the midlands (18-25) although we do have prisoners that are over 25 and also some cat B, potential cat A prisoners too

Just found this thread. Can you please explain the difference between a Cat A and Cat B prison. Also what a YOI estate is.

How often can they change their bedding
Do they have to buy toilet roll
Why cant they wear certain colours,/clothes
What happens if they end up with a sickness bug and they share a cell?
Do they claim benefits if in prison?

When my ex was in one (from memory hmp oakwood) the rule was that prisoners couldn't wear black on visits cos they looked too similar to the officers and therefore more likely to escape, every place has its own rules.

Thought so, I do a lot of bedwatches for them! My prisons about a 25 min car drive away, next door to a hotel which they have loads of weddings in

Just don't turn up late. They will never book more seats than they have available as there are various processes regarding prisoners that need to be addressed.

Get there early. Got through screening with the passive dog and whatever else they have in place. Don't wear anything hideously inappropriate: and most of all, enjoy your visit! You won't believe the good it does the prisoner.

And if you don't understand something or don't know what to do, ask an Officer. They are humans, and not ogres.

this isn’t true. It’s true you might not get in if you are late but it isn’t “first come first served”.

Sorry if this has been asked haven’t read full thread yet, but I’ve always wondered where do sex offenders go in us prison? In uk they have a separate wing VP and they are all housed together so basically get no shit and their wing is usually the cleanest calmest, So my question is if sex offenders (and Ps) are put among general offenders is it not constant attacks etc

When my friends sent the forms trying to find me, it was only a week or so when I was given them as I remember I was on the induction wing that you only spend your first two weeks on.
