There is a cafe/waiting room at most places now. Then you get taken over to be searched/sniffed etc. Have a look a the specific establishments website. Should tell you there

Just re-read my quoted post? Did I say it was first come first served somewhere? I've had a dose of large fingers today but not sure I said it was whoever rocks up first gets in? If I did then I humbly apologise........

I've visited my fella in 3 different jails and it was in those jails.
Ive worked in 6 jails and still do now and I’ve never heard anything like first come first served visits
Yeah they have ticket machines. You get your ticket and wait until your ticket number is called and go for your visit. I'm not a fantasist nor do I have reason to make it up lol.
I've never been to a prison so not really qualified to say anything on it 
but just feel the need to the ask first come first served doesn't sound right to me? so prisoners are expecting visitors but then get told they won't have one because their visitor wasn't one of the first? I get if they were late and get turned away as they have to be there before certain but not because they weren't first

I don’t know about every prison but all prisons I’ve worked out we can only let a certain of people through visits gate at one time, i;e max 10. So I’m guessing people mean like if you get there first you can be first 10 to go through into the visits hall - however staff try their hardest to get everyone in in time (visitors and prisoner) operationally this sometimes doesn’t work but staff do try to ensure you get the allocated visits time you’re entitled to have

I used to work the visitors centre in our local prison. We were given a check list of who had booked and then that was to be checked off our own list and they would be given a number.
The order they were sent over in was actually the order the visits had been booked.
