You can’t take anything into prison you have to buy all toiletries in there, you have to buy shoes and clothes there aswell, family can order them things which is really easy to do I know you can order from WHSmith for them to deliver but you can’t order from Amazon.

Where I work yard is first thing in the morning before movement to work/domestic periods and that’s the only time they’re able to use the exercise yard daily… if you don’t get up/decline to go outside then it’s tough basically until the next dayI always think of prison on a sunny day. I wonder if they are locked in a cell whilst it's sunny outside or whether they have a garden
Yu get a netted wash bag& put your dirty washing in it, & it your name, prison no. & cell number. You have allocated days , it also depends what wing your on, if your on an enhanced or long term wing you can do it yourself (depending what jail it is)What happens with the washing? Do you get your own clothes /underwear back?
My boyfriend's granddad is in a care home & all the washing goes together, then it just seems to be a free for all - size dependent.

I'm not in any kind of law, professionally, but in another life I'd love to be some kind of detective. Not necessarily police but I'm a nosy bugger and quite good at finding out stuff.
but could be a number of countries A lady, who I have endless respect for is now the boss at a particularly nasty jail in the UK. She lists that book as one of the reasons she still goes to work in the morning because she wants to make a difference to those peoples lives

You sound like you are brilliant at your job and I would say the prisoners are lucky to have you (whether they realise that at the time or not lol).I can’t comment on every prison just mine however it doesn’t happen very often, that gets reported anyway.
I’ve caught two guys giving each other head in the showers but it was consensual. Also caught two guys in a double pad having sex but again consensual. There has been allegations of sexual assault but it’s usually by the LGBTQ+ prisoners and when investigated they turn out to be untrue/over exaggerated as to what has actually happened.
I’m not saying it doesn’t happen though because it does.. I’ve just not came across that in my career..
I wouldn’t say pull out of the assessment - but I would say declare absolutely everything when they ask.
I have a half brother (met him a handful of times) who is constantly in and out of prison which I declared when I started as it would be a conflict of interest if I ever went to a prison he was in. I don’t have anythjng

Honestly I’m not going to lie, when I first started I was shit scared! I still going into situations now & my belly goes all funny with the anticipation of what’s going to happen because things can kick off in an instant, but you’ve just gotta fake it until you make it! They pick up on EVERYTHING.. they know if you’re scared & will play on that. My first shift as an officer I was in kit doing a planned removal (so moving a prisoner from his cell to the seg) and I was so nervous
In terms of confrontation - yes. I get it absolutely every day. It wouldn’t be a day in the prison without an argument with one of them. But as weird as it sounds, I work with these prisoners day in, day out.. I can have a major argument with one of them and then 9 times out of 10 go in the next day and it all be fine or a lot of the times they do apologise to me.
We had a lad the other day who missed his video call for his parole, never been an issue on the wing, good as gold enhanced prisoner - he came down to get his lunch meal & just started swearing in my face telling me to fuck off and we’re all useless blah blah, got him back to his cell and then when he came down to his evening meal he apologised and just said he shouldn’t have taken his frustrations out on me but tbh it is what it is.. I get moody sometimes if I’m in a bad mood and the smallest things piss me off and they’re all like “ah you’re in a mood today”
But yeah, you’ll always get confrontation. (Unless you’re a yes man who lets them get away with anything, unfortunately that isn’t me & whilst I have banter with them, they know not to cross the line with me)

I swear some of them could open a bloody shop!!! It’s ridiculous… always the ones that don’t order things from canteen either, they just run the wing & everyone pays them in canteen

I cant say ive visited a UK one that ive ever thought “its better than a Travelodge”.We’ve recently had a new governor, well he started when I transferred there last year but from what people were saying the previous governor was AWFUL!!!! Did not care about staff at all!!

So many people slated this series but I thought it was good and more likely to be realistic
If i was put in prison , I would keep doing stuff to be put in segregation. I can't imagine having to share space with loads of women. It would drive me mad. I would rather be segregated for the whole sentence with books and sleepinghahaha.
. It's really not that bad, it's not like you see on the U.S. docs where there's 100's of men, or women to a wing. .

My husband loves bed watches because it’s easy overtime (unless the prisoner dies which is then a lot of paperwork. He’s also an FLO -family liaison officer - so has to break the news to the next of kin, deal with coroners and arrange and attend funerals)

I’m sure even if you’re reformed those experiences don’t leave you. I can imagine just being back in a prison, even if you’re not actually locked up and it’s all for show, would take you back there pretty quickly. I know it’s not real but it’s still pretty uncomfortable to watch!
