I don't know how to do spoilers sorry but all the bruising to the forehead and then on the back of the head behind the ears, and then ultimately suffocation, says to me that baby was forcibly being held face down quite a lot, possibly to muffle screaming

They do carry the same sentences. Occasionally there is a campaign to change the law in England so that SA with an object is called rape but the argument against it is that they carry the same sentence in recognition. It's not a lesser charge and both are equally distressing for the victim. I was SAd as a child by an older child/teen and that messed me up much more than a later "date rape".

I noticed that Varley claimed that Preston was not a well baby and the "foster carer missed a lot". Except he is forgetting that Preston had a medical by an experienced doctor just before he was placed with them. There's a long list of people who can't do their jobs properly according to JV starting with the foster carer who had done it for decades, to the hospital staff and now the police and the pathologists. I bet he will be furious if his defence has appointed expert witnesses who disagree with his narrative. He has very strong control issues. I am very interested to see what John will say in his interviews

I think the fact they stayed together as a couple for two years after Preston’s death through the house move and while the investigation was ongoing tells me everything I need to know about JFM’s guilt and complicitness.

Has it been confirmed if they are still together as a couple now?

The only reference I've seen to anything is on the first day of the trial it was reported they were sitting in the dock with an empty chair between them. I don't know if that was to imply they're not putting on a united front or not.

The latest interview with him yawning, huffing and puffing and just acting so cocky ! He really does think hes innocent and done nothing wrong. Why go no comment on some of the questions then go into full detail about others. I wonder if we get to see John's interviews see how he comes across

I didn't realise JMF and JV were still together 2 years after.......
I've changed my mind, he can **** off as well.
I was really hoping we would hear he had run for the hills, when the penny dropped.

What i noticed from the police interviews,
How did he get this bruise? No idea, dont know, haven't a clue etc.
Then, oh THAT bruise, I know ALL about that bruise, it was nothing to do with me, it was someone else. Well isnt that convenient you noncey fat fuck!!!

How can JMF hear the pathologist’s findings and say, oh they must be crap at their job, I believe my partner. JMF was not there when it happened so he had to choose who to believe and he chose the guy over the science. He’s either completely complicit or utterly deluded. Neither are good for him. As for JV - throw away the key.

I’ve just listened to the podcast and here’s a summary for anyone who might be interested. I have not spoilered it so please be mindful if you don’t want to see specifics.

JMF went no comment at his police interview, just provided a brief statement confirming details we’ve already heard.

A team of four forensic experts tested stains on the bars of the cot. They also took samples from various items of clothing and sex toys (found under the bed). Two of the experts were contracted by the defence and two by the prosecution. They were tasked with looking at whether there was evidence of sexual activity between the defendants and Preston. The results were inconclusive. Although traces of all of their DNA (JV, JMF, Preston) were found on all items tested, all four experts agreed they could not rule out ordinary cohabitation being the reason for the presence of the DNA, and so it is not conclusive proof of sexual assault.

JV describes the time Preston is playing naked as “free willy time” and attempts to normalise it by saying the foster carer did the same [hmm did she take multiple photos of his genitalia?? I doubt it!]

JV is asked in police interviews about multiple photos of bruising taken on different days dating back to May 2023. He is shown the photos, asked simple questions like where was this photo taken and what caused the bruise. The photos are shown in chronological order.

One photo described Preston in a paddling pool with a dark bruise to the left of his forehead. Then a further photo on another day shows more bruises on each side of his forehead. Then another to the left side of his head a day later. Then 10 days later another bruise to the left side of his forehead and a lump on the right side of his forehead.

JV has “no idea” how these bruises came about or when they “were done”. His responses are coming across as frustrated and very flippant.

10 days later another picture shows Preston in the bath with a bruise to the right hand side of his forehead and another to his nose. Then another day he is pictured with three small bruises above his right eyebrow and two above his left. A week later a bruise on his right buttock. JV offers an explanation for this: Preston fell over in JV’s parents’ garden.

Two dates later another picture with a vertical linear bruise in the middle of his forehead. JV says the picture was taken in the park whe Preston was with JV, JMF and JV’s mum. JV is evasive about which park.

The final photo is Preston in a hot tub. He has two bruises on his forehead, close to his hairline. JV goes no comment on details about who is in the hot tub and where it is.

Now he is asked about Preston’s broken arm (which occurred in late June). He gives a version of events in relation to trying to get Preston to sleep in his cot that night when he was wide awake due to an earlier nap in the car [he seems a bit obsessed with the idea Preston should be on a sleep routine ffs]. Of course it’s Preston’s fault as he snaps his arm away unexpectedly.

Next day they took him to A&E after speaking to the Social Worker and JV’s mum. He pushed for diagnosis of a break. He says the Doctors misdiagnosed initially, it was all down to JV that Preston even got an x-ray . [Side note but wonder if JMF parents were around at all or just JV’s].

The horrible 14 minute video of Preston in a bath with water in it is discussed with JV. Preston is described as crying and whimpering. JV is gaslighting the detective, insisting Preston wasn’t distressed. The whole exercise was to encourage independent play and make Preston more resilient [does he have any trauma informed insight into parenting… I can’t believe what he is saying here ] and JV was nearby in the hall/doorway and could see him the whole time.

The police effectively accuse him of taking and possessing indecent and cruel footage of Preston but JV says, no it is the police who are trying to invent this narrative. It’s all innocent and they are the weirdos for even asking these questions.

JV was asked about internal injuries and bruising to Preston’s bladder [I don’t think we have heard much about this before]. JV says he was not aware of the injuries and he didn’t believe they were there. He says the police are wrong, the pathologist was wrong and the doctors at the hospital could have caused the throat, mouth and lip bruises and cuts.

He says the police will be in trouble. He denies it all.

I hate this man with a fierce passion I did not know even existed in me. RIP Preston sweet soul.

Preston was with them for 4 months.

I had a look back through 4 months of photos on my phone to get a sense of the time period and it’s desperately short, it’s nothing, and yet for Preston it must have been hell on earth. The fact he could still show joy bouncing on JV’s mum’s knee the day of his alleged murder breaks my heart.

You're right - the Behaviour Panel have made similar observations. I think they call it "leakage" - where someone denies something, but their body can't go along with their speech and reveals the truth despite themselves.

I think @nothinonyou is right - it's to avoid being recognised. Same with the weight loss.

I hope the two of them have been prevented from interacting even if they were out on bail - but I don't know how effectively this could be enforced.

He must have been so desperate for protection and affection. - and he had no reason to fear women. He was probably instinctively hoping to charm her, so she would take him home and keep him safe.

I really, really just cannot bear this. Preston's suffering has broken my heart.

I imagine the police initially thought JMF innocent as the incidents seemed to imply that they were happening when JMF was at work and JV was home alone with the baby. I bet the police had a big surprise when the dna swabs showed JMF as a contributor!

A few points that have occurred to me, having just caught up on yesterday’s live reporting and the summary of the podcast given above. Can they not use location data on the hot tub photo? Where was it, who was there and wtf was going on?! The bruises to his head, omg you can see what is insinuated by the description of them. There’s so many things wrong- am I the most nervous parent ever that I would NOT have had 5 cuddly toys and various blankets in my child’s cot. It’s a suffocation hazard and they weren’t even allowed more than one or two once they were bigger and sleeping in a bed. Describing him snuggling and chewing them makes Preston sound like a pet dog in a crate. Yes I am aware babies chew soft things, my eldest would chew a vest or his own sock because he never wanted a dummy. “Free Willy time”- that’s something I might have done when they were tiny if I was struggling with nappy rash but it’s been largely discounted as helpful and a barrier cream and clean nappy are preferable. I wouldn’t have done that once they were older with larger volume of wee and old enough to rummage their privates (none of mine really did that though I’m aware it’s not uncommon for little boys and they had taken videos of Preston doing it, the sickos). Leaving a baby who is at risk of attachment disorder to cry and whimper so you can prove to yourself he’s manipulative and whiny! That’s one of the most misguided (I’m being generous), cruel and or narcissistic things I’ve heard. I just can’t get over the audacity of JV dismissing the internal injuries. There was nobody else there to cause them on his final day. I think a focus is being made on the bladder because the defence will probably use the doctor’s words about the appearance of his bottom sometimes being seen after a resuscitation to push for reasonable doubt. I think it tells us a lot about JV’s experience of blagging his way through life and utter delusional narcissism that he expects people to take his word for it just because he says it. He’s been given a free pass too many times by acting dramatic and superior and he’s just expecting the same in the police interviews imo
