The bit that was edited out was what was said to JV in a police interview. I wonder if it’s been edited out because of this. I presume the agreed facts by experts on both sides came after the police interviews.

Absolute bell end.

I haven't said this before but I do think in society straight women especially hold gay men to such high esteem. They think they can do no wrong and desperately want to be a fag hag. I think that probably played some part here for social workers who are often female and hospital staff who all turned a blind eye because they think so highly of gay men. You even see it now with the success of Heated Rivalry, some straight women thrive off gay men
Oh for fuck sake 🙄

2 witnesses at the hospital said neither was wearing footwear.
He is wearing white trainers in the video of him on the phone outside, he's sitting on a wall while JV is pacing and JV is barefoot. I think some of the witnesses got the men mixed up.

I really hope this is the case… but I doubt it considering the charges and evidence to say otherwise
Agree - I think that there is physical evidence - internal injures for instance - to indicate sexual abuse, otherwise the prosecution wouldn't have added this to the charges.

Came across an old post on Facebook with some older info. The neighbour is probably using a healthy dose of hindsight. It's too horrifying to think that Varley could so obviously have been that way and have got past SS, hospital staff etc?

Also, not to take away from what happened to poor innocent Preston. But given the name of his BM given here, and some of the deleted comments, has anyone googled Sarah Davey of Failsworth 😨 surely not. I know thats adding 1+1 and potentially getting 3. But this poor poor innocent soul never stood a chance, it's just too heartbreaking :(
I saw a post on r/adoption that mentioned the BM was a convicted killer. Someone asked who and how did they know. I have gone back to look and can't see it now but my app is playing up. I think it could be true.

Manchester Evening News has a good live coverage. Can’t post the link.
I feel so much for this jury, I felt sick just reading part of the opening.
I actually can’t believe they basically tortured that poor baby. I don’t even have any words.
HOW can they be pleading not guilty?! I asked the other day on the crime thread whether the defence did an opening statement or not or whether they deferred their statement until after the prosecution rests as I wasn’t following initially, I tried to search but couldn’t find one.

I'm sure JV was completely freaking out at the hospital - he knows what he did to Preston, that he will found out and that his life will never be the same again - he was upset for himself, but JMF actually seemed to feel more shock and grief for Preston, JV didn't even want to go to him or hold his hand when he was dying.

JV was waffling on about getting his pjs and his pj top but he was vague or 'no comment ' at other times - he was focussing on an irrelevant detail to avoid saying what he actually did to Preston.

@PaddyDomino made an interesting comment about killers mentioning baths and showers, I'd not picked up on this before but a few cases come to mind - psychologically, I guess it is a killer 'cleansing' themselves and 'washing away' their guilt 🙁
Yes, I can't remember the exact reason how bathing and showering is a red flag for SA but washing away guilt is probably one link.
Possibly SA happening in the bath and shower in a domestic situation too?
I remember he said how a lot of mentions of "doors" in a statement is a red flag for domestic violence and it was due to a door opening being a precursor to the abuse and I think doors slamming as well.

Jamie sounds like a nasty piece of work, his partner failed that baby too, I’d be interested in his defence as he was the one that went back to work but receiving the inappropriate photos. But also locked out of the house when his partner took Preston’s life. Did he lock him out to to horrible things? With Jamie being open about struggling to colleagues his partner should have escalated this or stepped up. This video shows the partner actually appears to be the dad whereas Jamie is distant. Poor baby, deserved better.

are the jury seeing all these interviews on video or just seeing transcripts? I ask because I did jury service a few years ago (on an historical child abuse case). The initial interviews with the accused were just transcripts and some of the jury were not sure he had done it. When we saw later interviews his attitude and body language were very telling and they were convinced

Am I correct in thinking there was a video taken of Preston on the day he died, showing him struggling for breath with blue tinged lips? They arrived with him to hospital at about 6:25pm, what time was the video taken? I've tried to flick back through but can't find it. Surely that would also show their lack of urgency to get him seen at hospital and show their version of events is bullshit.

I understand that, and do agree that clearly nothing was off limits in terms of the horrors they/Varley inflicted on Preston. I guess what I’m saying is, there’s nothing unusual or particularly shocking about an adult being violent and cruel towards a defenceless baby. A man orally and anally raping a baby is just a in different stratosphere. Even for a child abuser, that is rare and taboo.
It does feel like a significant escalation in a short space of time doesn’t it? I can only assume that there were signs or things he’s done previously that may/may not have indicated that he had a sexual interest in children. This may come out after the trial though.
If there genuinely is nothing - no signs, no indication etc it is hard to get your head around him going to those ‘levels’. However, sexual abuse is very much centred around power, control, and punishment…the sexual gratification is often secondary bizarrely enough

I imagine the police initially thought JMF innocent as the incidents seemed to imply that they were happening when JMF was at work and JV was home alone with the baby. I bet the police had a big surprise when the dna swabs showed JMF as a contributor!

When they asked who John was he referred to him as baby boys daddy. Baby boy? The fact that he referred to him as that rather than by his name or as his son says a lot I think.
Hmm I don't think this is a stand alone red flag. I referred to my (adopted) son as the baby or my little one for aaages as it felt quite alien to me - and I have birth kids as well.
He's still awful and I am not validating him on any way!

I don’t know anyone older than their early 20s who uses snapchat. It’s an odd thing for a couple in their late 30s to use to communicate
We haven't heard any evidence against JMF yet have we? I'm wondering if there will be more to this I that JV was sending him messages over Snapchat knowing they'd disappear and he might have been encouraging it without doing any of it.

She was released in 2024 and Preston was born in 2022 so I don’t think it’s her

They hadn't officially adopted him right? I'm not sure how it works but was it more about seeing if it was the right fit?
It does look very rushed from the outside looking in 😔

At the end of the day, all I really care passionately about is safeguarding vulnerable kids from the likes of Jamie and John.
I hear you ❤
I don't disagree with what you are proposing, but legally it's a minefield and I don't see how checking adopters/fosterers devices could work in practice.

I work in Adult Social Care, my role is adjacent to Children's Services. There's complex legislation and a legal framework that underpins why services work the way they do, introducing checking devices for prospective adopters/fosterers sounds good but I imagine this is not a straightforward solution.
