On the topic of class did anyone watch Damned on Channel 4 a few years back? It was a black comedy with Jo Brand set in a social work department. I can’t remember the details but I remember one of the storylines involved them interviewing a couple and Jo Brand’s character called them MCWD - middle class well dressed and how they probably wouldn’t face the same scrutiny because of it.

Though I wouldn’t have described JV as middle class. I haven’t seen as much of JMF to comment but as posters have said, in Blackpool the professional jobs with the nice house would have put them in that category.

He had a respectful, professional job and it means you get an easy pass. Look at the McCann’s, they’d have been roasted alive if they were young, working class patents who worked in a supermarket. I’ve always said this

Something that's sat uncomfortably with me for a while and I feel like I can say it here. Preston looks mixed race to me, I don't believe that both his birth parents were white. And I can't help but wonder if that played an element into his treatment by these two.
Do we know anything about Preston's birth father?

In answer to your question - I don’t think it made a difference. I think the abuse would have been the same in any case, I said earlier that they would have abused a girl if that was the child they were matched with.
It seems to be about sadisim and control more than anything.

I read it early this morning on my tablet, daily Mail, one of their articles. I'm on my phone now, and I've just scrolled through their articles and I can't see it, which is weird, maybe they've removed that part, it was just a sentence not a whole article.
ETA, it said it wasn't csa, that it was bestiality in a hidden folder. There had been speculation here that it was suffocating/choking. Is it a separate charge and maybe shouldn't have been mentioned?

Preston's foster mother is the unsung heroine here - she tried so hard to raise awareness, but was shut up by SWs and blanked by those two POS. She must be torturing herself, wishing she'd just rung the police, or forced her way into the house kicking and screaming or something. She did everything she could and was fobbed off and ignored.

Also they reported her for "breaching confidentiality" when there was another foster carer in the house. Bet they were thrilled when they realised that. So many red flags trying to shut her out and discredit her.

Evidentially, she wouldn’t provide anything for either the defence or the prosecution. They will have taken statements off her during the investigation but I imagine these formed part of the non-disclosable evidence in the trial. It could have been a legal argument that resulted in her not being called as a witness. Effectively, using JV’s and JMF’s accounts, they didn’t need mum to be a w

It’s been said a few times but some of the bruising to his body was only visible after death.
I personally think she had suspicions of them being bad parents but no suspicions of SA and likely took what her son told her to account for the injuries and the hospital visits.
She had him on Wednesdays (if I remember correctly) but timing wise I think the SAs were done when she wasn’t going to see him. Plus, they caused seizures so any “off” behaviour JV and JMF would put down to that.

It’s easy in hindsight to think she should have known. Same with the info coming out about his upbringing/her relationships, I don’t agree that this was something that should have flagged in a background check or could have foreseen this happening.

For me the blame lays with JV and JMF, but if you want to look at others, then I would say medical staff and social services for not joining the dots and being “professionally curious”, I would then place his mum after them, then the school/colleagues. A number of people let Preston down. His foster mother tried to raise concerns and was shut down.

Yeah I don’t think the blame lies with her as such but she saw him so much, I struggle to believe she didn’t at least suspect neglect.
She is naturally going to be biased to believing her son’s lies but as you say the professionals should have delved more. Just so hard to know she could have raised concerns.

What an absolute legend she is for hearing the bull JV said about her telling them to do "free willy" time, and coming back to court to dispute that she ever said that.

She can hold her head high now that she did the best she could for Preston when he was in her care, and she did the best she could to assist in bringing the pair of deviants to justice.

I hope she has some peace knowing she fought so hard for him and showed him love in his first 9 months of life. She must have loved him, you can't care for a baby from newborn to 9 months and not love them.

He was also convicted of racial abuse so i think its safe to say he's white.

I suspect when the case review is published we’ll find there will be a record of a discussion about what the social worker observed on the day when she questioned if there was something wrong with her supervisor. It’s worded in such a way that makes me think it will have been explored before being entered into his records as otherwise why record it at all. That conversation may be quite enlightening as to what the level of concern was and what ultimately led to it being dismissed.
