They're excused from jury duty for the rest of their lives, not surprised there . This will haunt them forever

Ok I'm serial commenting now, but one last thing and ill shut it. Don't know how to do trigger warnings, so warning.

The blue tongue cot photos are the smoking gun to me. There's no debate. They both saw it and both knew that could kill him. My 9 year old would know that, so would the dogs on the street, so would my goldfish. There's no convincing me or surely anyone that they DiDnT kNoW. I think I've spent so long reading about this case and the small nitty gritty and thinking on the smaller subtle evidence. But if you found a random phone on the street unlocked and that photo was open on the screen, you'd ring the police and stop at nothing until the baby with the blue tongue being strangled on a cot bar was found and saved. The second smoking gun is him recording Preston moving towards his penis with an open mouth. Same thing if you found a video like that on a phone, you'd frantically want to find and save the baby, because theres not a situation that exists where thatd be recorded innocently and the penis owner wouldn't know that it was full sexual predator behaviour. Think about every man you know. Do you know one man who would record a video like that with a baby naked in a bath and youd think it was innocent? Case closed for me with those two cold hard visually evidenced facts

Honestly their defence is so misogynistic, a theme in this whole tragedy Too busy with work to notice signs of severe abuse. Clueless about leaving a baby in a tub of water while you prick around doing your hair and looking up kayaks. Clueless about babies and needing a date night after 5 fucking minutes. Pretending its normal to have semen all over a house and in particular your baby items. Pretending its normal to be rough with an infant breaking limbs and causing bruises.
And thats just the cruelty and non sexual abuse the poor baby suffered.

There is not a single woman who would have been pandered to the way these two cretins were as a new parent.

These cases make me incredibly sad. I was part of an online infertility group for many years supporting each other through years of heartbreak and losses, some of got lucky but so many didnt get to ever hold their own child and had no money left to qualify for adoption.

Honestly a public stoning is too good for this pair.

Also this tHeY wErE iNeXpErIeNcEd with children malarkey is sending me into a rage. I had my eldest when I was 21 and in college. It was just me and him in my little apartment, my whole family a 3hr drive away, learning how to be a mother from mumsnet which was essentially the only parenting resource back in 2014. No babies in my family. And guess what? I magically somehow still knew not to spin him fast in toys, or scream boo at him to manipulate a sleep routine, or leave him unsupervised in a bath to teach him to "self soothe". These were two professionals in their 30s who had nieces and nephews, one was a teacher. A pathetic attempt at a defence, and frankly an insult to suggest that a grown human with no intellectual disabilities wouldn't know what was cruel and what wasnt

On a similar note to what was being discussed earlier, I also hate the “they had little experience with babies” line of defence. If this had been a single mum or lesbian couple in the dock, I can’t imagine anyone seriously suggesting inexperience as an excuse.

It feels like men are often given the benefit of the doubt in situations while women are simply expected to know better, which comes across as quite misogynistic to me.

I have been seething about this too, I had my first when I was 20 and after catching my husband in bed with a family member I left him carrying my son a black bag and a buggy. My parents said I made my bed so I should lie in it. I was 8 months pregnant and homeless until I found a shelter then a house. I had my daughter alone and home not knowing if I would be able to get out to the shops for food. I had neighbours, good neighbours. We looked after each other. I was 22 with 2 children, hardly any money just begging bits and pieces off people to survive. But throughout it all I loved, cared, and protected my babies. I had no help and I was very young, but I would not ever have hurt my babies, I would never hurt them, shout BOO or break their little bones. And the rest of the nasty vileness, God no never.

During the trial for the murder of Star Hobson, where her mother Frankie was also accused (and then convicted) of causing and allowing the death of a child, there were similar discussions as we’ve seen in this trial about what she could have reasonably known when a lot of the evidence was when Brockhill was on her own with Star. There were mentions in court of everyday photos where bruises could be seen. At the time i guess i was picturing that they wouldn’t look much different to typical toddler bruises because you wouldn’t take photos if you were causing bruises due to abuse?

It wasn’t until after the verdicts (both guilty) the police released one of the photos and you can immediately see why there is just no disputing that the parent who wasn’t present should have reasonably foreseen a problem. I think when we are just reading words on a page it’s difficult to remember how impactful images and videos will be to the jury.

I’ll put it behind a spoiler as not everyone will want to see this. I can’t remember the specifics about this particular bruise but if your child was appearing with bruises like this when left in the care of someone else, what would you do?

and bear in mind it’s not disputed that JMF saw the bottom photo and various videos of genitals etc.

I know this site has a terrible reputation but I find threads like this one so helpful in terms of processing something so unfathomably horrific in a way that I can’t really do irl. I don’t often comment but I’ve been following carefully and I find all of the insight and reflection so helpful. I can’t stop thinking about that gorgeous wee boy 😢

Damn, so Preston spent his first night with them on 30th March (bare in mind the whole adoption was only just approved in March), by the 3rd of April he was already fucking bitching about Preston to his friend and complaining that it’s taking a toll on their relationship!? The bloke is an absolute cretin. Whatever made him want a child in his life if it wasn’t for his own sexual perversion. Because I’m not seeing anything paternal just contempt for a little boy he should’ve felt fucking privileged to come into contact with. Surely this confirms the plan was never to become proper parents and raise a baby together. Someone this emotionally stunted should never become a parent.

I’m seeing a lot on the media about his birth mother - this is about Preston, not her. Let’s not detract from the horror those two bastards inflicted.
