I thought JMF's KC was really ripping into him now as the live updates say "Mr Whyte" but I think the reporter has got confused with names between Mr Wright KC for Prosecution and Ms Whyte KC for JMF?

The timings really are so sad, and so obvious that he's just lying through his teeth. I'm expecting the jury are, unfortunately, hearing much more details about what they think/know to have happened in these 'gaps'.

I’ve just realised they’re likely suggesting Preston was abused again after that distressing video of him gasping and rattling, barely breathing 😭

Didn’t realise this event was so close to Preston’s death and just a few days after the hanging from cot bars and photo of his poor bum.
Face level!!! To see “how he got on”.

Defendant left Preston in bath 'with water up to the level of his face', prosecutor says
Mr Whyte says: "Do you remember leaving him in the bath on his own on another occasion? You said he hated to be left alone at police interview. Why did you do that on July 24 without a bath seat?"
"I wanted to see his interaction without me being here," Mr Varley says.
Mr Whyte says: "You told Janet Gee that you had dark thoughts about drowning or suffocating your son."
"That is not true," Mr Varley says.
"You put him in that bath in circumstances in which the bath had been filled on July 24," Mr Whyte says. "You left him lying flat on his back with water up to the level of his face."
"That’s incorrect. It wasn’t up to the level of his face," Mr Varley says.
"Right up to the edge of his face. We’ve seen the video," Mr Whyte says. "You left him in that condition. Were you recording this for a different reason?"
"Other than to see how he got on? No," Mr Varley replies.

Mr Varley says: "I never expected years down the line having to be that accurate."

I'm thinking the snarky attitude is coming out now as he's being tied in knots.

I'm sorry to have to ask about this as it's horrific, but in the podcast they have been coy about the medical evidence of SA but in this thread people have made reference to more graphic details around his "bottom". Is that public knowledge/from court or just speculation?

I hope it's as obvious to the jury as it is to us what a crock of tit JV's story is. None of it adds up.

I must've been oblivious to some of the reporting, as I didn't realise (I don't know why) that the bottom injuries were - if I'm reading and understanding things correctly today - seemingly inflicted on poor Preston on the same day as he died. I'm not sure if in court they'll go into what abuse they think happened in what 'gaps' of phone activity but its just... incomprehensible.

I think the expert doctor said the injuries to his bottom, bowel and bladder were recent (within hours of death), and that there were signs it had also happened before on at least one occasion. I’m guessing older and newer tears.

It's just horrifically cruel. Babies don't like their heads being in the water like that, no wonder he was so scared. He did it for one of two reasons, to hope he 'accidentally' drowned or for fun to see him suffer. I don't know why the prosecution aren't asking him why he didn't leave him safely in a play pen or a cot if his reasoning was genuine.

I think somebody saw a Facebook post that actually used the term I’m using to describe what had happened to his bottom. But it’s very clear that both in the photo from the 23rd and at his death on the 27th, Preston has visible outward damage to that part of him. Not just redness from toileting or nappies. The doctor was asked if there was any medication or treatment Preston could have had that had caused that damage and appearance and it was a no. Plus with the internal injuries combining with the external it’s very obvious it was from “forcible penetration” which is how it was described by the expert. 💔
She also ruled out any constipation type issues by saying she had never seen any presentation like that in even the worst of constipation cases.

Anyone who has experienced a colonoscopy can confirm how unpleasant and painful it is - and that is with an adult mole and a narrow diameter camera, well lubricated, and inserted gently and with great care. I cannot imagine the agony Preston must have undergone.

I hope someone performs a similar procedure on both of these POS with something large and sharp or splintery. I have never wanted someone to suffer like this before, but nothing is too terrible for a person who does this to a child.

Thank you for clarifying for me.

It just gets worse, the poor little thing. :( I can only hope he gets what's coming to him.

Varleys completely losing track of his story now, this prosecutor completely has him. Good.

He will if this KC has anything to do with it - he’s making absolute mincemeat of him in the latest updates and exposing all the lies. Amazing.

I agree wholeheartedly with your whole post.

A friend's relative used to say that some people should "go f**k themselves with a rotating pineapple" and I think a pineapple being forcibly used is the least they deserve.

I know that every barrister does his/her very best to present the brief they have in front of them - but I am sure, that in cases like this one, they must be filled with even more determination to get a conviction if they possibly can.

No matter how professional they may appear in court, they must go home at night and think "These f*ckers aren't getting away with this on my watch." This isn't a case you can go home, do your preparation for the next day, and then have your dinner and put it out of your thoughts until you step back into the courtroom.

This will haunt everybody involved with it for the rest of their lives. None of them will ever be the same again. None of us will, and we haven't heard the half of it.

After making a mockery of his story about the bath, I hope they circle back to all the other cruel incidents and indecent sexualised behaviour/images.

'How is it that this little boy had been partially submerged with water but there were no physical signs of drowning?'
Mr Wright says Mr Varley believed he had died from drowning. "You were asked at interview if you could see his face in the water and said you panicked cause he was out of his seat," he says. "You described seeing his right ear and the back of his head."
He asks: "How is it that this little boy appears then to have been partially submerged with water that would probably go over his mouth but there were no physical signs consistent with drowning?"
Mr Varley says: "I have made it clear on Friday where his mouth was and the position I found him in."
Mr Wright asks: "You think you may have removed the water from the bath?"
"It’s a possibility," Mr Varley says.

I'm not sure what this is called, but he's been doing it all day. He's not quite refusing to answer the questions, but also not answering what he's being asked. Like an earlier instance of "Why would you put a towel in a bath full of water?" ... "I cannot recall emptying the bath"

It's all just showing how his account is pure fiction.
