They say there is always a bit of truth in the lies, I bet he was in the bed with Preston but abusing him and I bet the dog did interrupt because dogs are so intuitive even a dog would know this is wrong and try to comfort the baby 😞
A seven minute lull in phone activity, followed by video footage of Preston in respiratory distress? Doesn’t look good does it.

What does this mean exactly?
" Anne Whyte KC will now cross examine Mr Varley on behalf of John McGowan-Fazakerley. "

The result was "neutral", so not negative. It's not a positive match because they couldn't rule out that it could have been transferred due to them all living together (holding Preston and then holding the toy immediately after). The jury can draw their own conclusions though.
Wouldn't they find fingerprints though or is that what they mean by dna... not clued up on this stuff like can they check for different things like saliva matching preston or swabs from mole. If it was fingerprints found then maybe explains if he had hold of it rather than them actually using it on him type of thing... urghhh cant believe my brains even going there 🤢

M-F's barrister will cross examine him and question him to make M-F look as innocent as possible.

It's just not something that would be able to be proved in court (could be argued he'd found it and put it in his mouth ). I think someone said on the last thread it's hard to establish just where the DNA has come from on an item.

Whoever predicted that there would be courtroom conflict between Varley and JMF please step forward. I honestly wasn’t sure but one thing I can say for sure is that I’d never have expected it this quick.

Only starts crying when it comes to himself as well and no sign of remorse up until now. It's all a show for the jury , just like at the hospital

I am trying to give JV mum the benefit of the doubt. Mainly because all accounts say Preston was happy to be with her, so I feel she was caring towards him.
But something I can’t get my head round is that she bathed him and changed his nappy. So how could she not notice his ‘abnormal bum’ or the bite mark?
And what about JV saying Preston was clumsy and that’s how he got so many bruises. Was he so accident prone when his ‘gran’ was looking after him? Did he have seizures with her?
Could she really put it all down to men being a bit rough and clueless about babies?
Once he left his foster mum, that poor baby really didn’t have anyone who put him first :(

I’ve not read the thread so this might have been discussed as I’m just catching up on the reporting.
I think the periods of inactivity on this phone are when the assaults took place. I know believe there was more than one on the day he died and I think Preston potentially did recover initially and JV abused him again which is what ultimately killed him.
The “stuck my finger in his mouth” is him trying to account for the throat injuries.

Him saying he doesn’t feel well before being cross examined by his partners solicitor is classic. Fine to put his own performance on but shitting himself when questioned…

Tried to lift his head. Tried to hold his leg. Hes literally going through where injuries were found and adding it to the story.
Yep, literally heard all the evidence and made up a story. I can’t actually believe he’s still sticking with the bath though when no water was found in Preston.
He’s also done exactly what Letby did - changed his account from police interview to the stand. HUGE piece of evidence and imo, very damning

He also made reference to ‘their pathologist” so I am assuming there will be an alternative presented by that pathologist after both men have given evidence and being cross examined? I’m not even sure right now if JMF will take the stand you know

I wonder if she will take the stand she should be made to even more so being an adoptive child, like you say did she experience seizures, was she clued up on how to handle them. Did she see these bruises i mean didnt he say the one on his bum was done in her care so she should 100% be made to take the stand.

Amazing that throughout the police interviews he looked like he was discussing the death of a goldfish when faced with all the same evidence he was bored and flippant. Now when he talks about it it’s so distressing he gets emotional and needs to have a break.(because he has an audience )As the other poster said he has now thought of possible excuse for most of the injuries in his mind. Interesting his barrister never mentioned the perforated bowel because not sure how even this monster would explain that. I’m sure the jury must already know all this is absolute nonsense. But hopefully the prosecution barrister will rip him apart. Justice for Preston

Yeah I noticed that too, for those who can't see the live reporting, quoted below what was reported when NJ KC asked him how he felt now about Preston's death...

"I feel we have not been given time to grieve, I feel we are still looking for answers. I feel our pathologist is closer to what I experienced that day. I know their accusations and viewpoint is wrong. It couldn’t have been further from the truth. I'm lost for words."

Not sure what he means by 'closer to what I experienced that day' until I guess we hear from the pathologist.

The KC for JMF seems to definitely be pressing on that JV was alone with the child most of the time, and at the time of the incidents mentioned in her questioning so far, and that JMF is the less emotional (including anger and acting out I'm guessing is the angle) of the two.

Agree that all cross examination so far is to effectively paint JMF as a weekend dad and JV as the one who was always around.
