This thread has nothing to do with judging his birth mother. I don't disagree with what you suggest, this is not the place for that type opinion, it has zero to do with what happened.
So you’re on here judging a crime- but I’m not allowed to judge a crime that is linked to this case. Had the original crime not been committed, none of this would have happened.

We can spend all year blaming social workers and adoption agencies, and of course there are only really two men to blame here, but I did say to a colleague today that if his bio mum hadn’t been troubled herself, then this wouldn’t have happened. We can hate on the ‘system’ all we like, but if people took more precautions to avoid giving birth to unwanted children, or we began looking after the children/ adults at risk of going on to have babies who would be removed by social services in the first place, then systems wouldn’t be overstretched and children wouldn’t be doled out to abusers as much. *****WILD*** generalisation I know, and of course it’s not that simple, but I was getting so wound up by what I’ve been reading today, it’s difficult not to become some cynical old hag.

I know for a fact that her co-defendant has lived a completely crime free life since release and has children that remain in her care, so on that basis the original crime the birth mother committed is irrelevant. It’s a factor on her life path, but it’s not directly linked.
I would never take away from how awful her original crime was, but the fact is that the path that birth mother chose post release is what led to Preston being taken from her care. The circumstances that led to the baby being removed from care at birth are much more complex than has been reported.
Whatever anyone’s viewpoint is, whether she should have been released initially, or allowed to have children or whether he should have remained in her care is irrelevant & I regardless of whatever she has done, have compassion for her that the child she gave birth to has been murdered.
All that is important is that somehow this baby ended up in the hands of these two disgusting individuals and that justice needs to be served for Preston

If social services were to audit and apply proper governance to see that kids were being treated well, things being adequately reported, and safe guarded this could have been avoided.

I think that is a very short sighted response. Yes if poor little preston had been born by a mother who hadn't committed horrendous crimes and wasnt addicted to many substances, this would never have happened.

Holy cow.

This thread is about the murder of a bright young thing who could have had the world at his doorstep, loved by the right people.

Instead he was abused in every single way till his death. His birth mother, imo doesn't enter into the equation.... with the right people around him, little preston could have had the best life.

In these circumstances I don't think the birth mother is to blame

Though it’s not been officially acknowledged, people seem firm on who his birth mother is. It’s such an unusual and shocking circumstance that it would be strange not to pass comment. To me though I think if it wasn’t Preston it would have sadly been someone else so how he ended up in care is an aside in what happened to him. There’s always a reason a child is put up for adoption so it’s pointless saying “if birth family had/hadn’t done x,y,z it wouldn’t have happened”. If JV/JMF weren’t degenerate rum who deceived the system it wouldn’t have happened. I think it’s natural to “bargain” with the facts because our brains like to think “if only” and try to imagine a scenario where everything would have been ok but that’s just my take.

The point of making a child a ward of the state and then putting them up for adoption is to give them the loving and secure home that they were not able to have with their birth family. This has failed horribly here. The reasons he was taken into care are kind of irrelevant

What was the original crime his birth mother committed? I don’t know who she is

I’ve often wondered how barristers of the worst perpetrators are able to defend them when they must know they are guilty. But by defending them properly they also ensure justice is served and minimise any chance of appeal.
This.

A Barrister may think that the defendant is an evil b, guilty to the gills, locked up & key thrown away. By a fair professional defence, there is no ambiguity when it comes to sentencing & scarcer opportunity to appeal. Justice is seen to be done.

Is he seriously trying to say that Preston gave a cheeky wink after he'd broken his elbow?!
And that he'd slept all night afterwards and they only noticed the next morning?!
I broke my shoulder a few years ago and I'll never forget the pain, I didn't cry but if I were a baby, I would have!
I was pale, felt sick and couldn't get up off the floor for a good few minutes!
They are trying to make out that Preston didn't react at all!
I also don't like how he keeps using the word "cheeky" - to me it has flirtatious connotations, especially "cheeky wink", it doesn't sound right at all to me.
He also calls Preston a "right player", again just not right in relation to a baby.

When my little boy was born I started to have concerns over a family member (on my partners side)...I started to get a gut feeling that my son could be in danger around him. It started off with one red flag which then lead to others- in the end I did seek advice via a charity which educated me on 'red flags' and then encouraged me to contact the police and do a sarahs law on said family member. But one of the red flags, for me, was his language around children. How he would describe them and talk about children etc. To some it seems very minor, as it was very subtle, barely even noticeable. But to this day I do not allow alone time with my son and we always teach body safety around my son. I'm certain this man is a danger to children but I have absolutely zero proof, I only have my gut instincts and the red flags that I noticed.
JV is a walking red flag.

I think regardless of who Preston’s mother was/is - why he was unable to remain in her care - why social care went down the route of adoption rather than fostering then reunification / SGO to grandmother after cancer treatment (especially as she has his sister) - ultimately, this would still have happened with whatever baby JMF & JV got their hands on - because they are sadistic paedophiles, it would just be another little boy/girl’s name we’d be writing here instead of Preston 💔

A lot being said about Preston’s mother and yes with good reason, she committed horrendous crimes and age was no excuse. But this is about Preston and I can’t help but think that Varley and JMF told themselves that on some level what they were doing was okay because of Preston’s genetics so to speak. Obviously I have no proof of this but Varley in particular is a psychopath who no doubt considered Preston an object and any time he might’ve had a pang of guilt or fear or whatever, I’m certain he would’ve used any excuse to put that to one side. No one can guess how Preston’s life would have been had he spent it with his mother except to say he’d almost certainly be living. And if he could’ve stayed with his foster parents then he’d surely have lived and been happy. He should be here anyway.

Preston was taken from his birth mother because she couldn’t stay away from drugs and took them while pregnant…. She clearly didn’t love and want him enough to stop the drugs.
Addiction is much more complex than that. The hold drugs and alcohol have over those who are addicted to/dependent on them is often not as simple as ‘if you loved them you’d stop’. Sometimes love and support is enough, often it will never be. Regardless of what anyone has done in their lives they will never deserve to lose a child in this way. But this isn’t about justice for his biological mum it’s about justice for Preston. If he’d been placed in a loving family and given everything he should have as he deserved he would/should have had a wonderful life with his adoptive family. Sadly, he was placed with these monsters.

I was saying on here, and another poster said it as well, that I believe there was an element of classism and snobbery in this.
I think JV and JMF probably looked down their noses on Preston's biological family and it was one way of them being able to "other" Preston, so to speak, and see him as an object.
They also looked down on the foster parents, I think.
JV seems to especially have it in for the foster mother and has tried to throw her under the bus a few times.

Off topic but, people often think “if you loved your kids/family/etc” you would do it for them. I know from experience you WANT to do it for them but if you don’t love (or at least be kind to) yourself and do it for that you will not succeed. That’s why it’s difficult because the reason someone became an addict in the first place and all the humiliating things that come after makes it very hard to have any respect for yourself.

The support the birth mother gets on here is absolutely wild tbf. She commited and sadistic evil crime the same as JV and JMF. So I sincerely hope that years to come no one would be taking sympathy on either of them should they get released and get a woman pregnant, have child remove and something awful happen to the child while in care. I have zero compassion for her, the same as I have zero compassion for JV and JMF.

I also sincerely hope should I ever have the misfortune of having a thread on a gossip site about me that no “seasoned professional” who knows about me through their work (as you’ve referred to yourself previously) goes on there breaking confidentiality to discuss me.

Do we think that the prosecution will take over today?? Usually they like to before a weekend so it stays in the jury’s minds

I don’t think anybody here is supporting her. We’re not even supposed to know who she is - the thread is about Preston and it should stay that way imo. He was a child in care, it doesn’t matter who his mother was. It’s about the evil that was done to an innocent little child regardless of who he was or where he came from, and hoping he gets the justice he deserves.

It works both ways, if people are posting things like “I feel sorry for his birth mother” and 20 people like that post, then you have to expect people like me to say well I actually I don’t feel sorry for her.
