I’ve had two before ! They are not that bad . Just make sure to take a book or some entertainment with you because it’s a long wait . The drink is a bit grim (in my trust it’s kind of like undiluted squash) .

but just to reassure you that while they think weight and bmi could cause gestational diabetes , it is really actually quite random ! My friend is a size 8 and runs marathons and she got it . I’m a big lady who loves a bar of Cadbury’s and in my last two pregnancies I didn’t get it . Don’t stress 🩷

I have had two this pregnancy. For mine I had to fast from 12am the night before but could have sips of water. You will be there for around 2 hours. You have a blood test, then are given glucose drink to have. The one I had tastes like orange Lucozade so it wasn't too bad. You wait for an hour and have another blood test. You wait another hour and have the third and final blood test. You can keep sipping water.

I would take some entertainment like a book or ipad/laptop to watch something.

You may feel light headed or queasy too.

Try not to worry. Even if it is positive it can be managed :)

There’s lots they can do to help you manage it if you do have it so it’s not the be all and end all . My friend who had it was also encouraged to join and attend a gestational diabetes support group which she found really helpful ! Not sure how widely this is offered though .

Also there are lots of resources out there on YouTube and there are Facebook groups and all sorts . Diabetes sounds scary but it will be fine if you do have it . Annoying sure but not something to really worry about . I’m sure some ladies on here might have had it previously and can offer you some better guidance !

I had it with my first but not this pregnancy! If it is positive try not to beat yourself up (easier said than done, I was felt awful and it took the shine off my pregnancy for a good couple of weeks).

The Gestational Diabetes UK Facebook group and website are amazing resources. Pleeeease just stick to those for your info because last time I accidentally joined a US-based one too and it was full of expectant mums just asking what Taco Bell was GD-friendly 😬 the UK one is actually useful with lots of support and advice in the Facebook group and recipes and info on the website of how to best manage the diet.

And the most important bit of information (well it was for me anyway) is that you can still have (small amounts of) chocolate if you eat nuts or cheese with it!! ❤❤

Weight can be a factor but genetics play a big part. Stress causes spikes in sugar levels so youre best having the attitude whatll be will be. You cant control the result unfortunately. I've had it 3 times now and it's not ideal but it's manageable. Ive been diet controlled all 3 times. I was in size 8 jeans at 20 weeks so for me my sister, mum, gran and great grandpa with their tit genetics let me down! I think i was diagnosed at 16 weeks, feel like I've had it forever!

If you do test positive feel free to @ me and I'll offer my experience x

If any reassurance I was expected to develop GD due to my pcos and slightly overweight but never did. They expected it do much that I didn’t even get the test just had to monitor my blood sugar levels from about 13 weeks!

Hi all, hope everyone is doing well. Does anyone have any free pregnancy contraction tracker app recommendations? Thank you 😊

Hi everyone, does anyone know if it’s safe for me to dye my hair with semi permanent brown hair dye?? (Sick of the greys) I’m 11 weeks but will do it after I’m 12 weeks as I read it’s safer to do this just wondering what everyone’s opinions are?

I use demi-permanent dye (lasts a bit longer than semi) and used it a couple of times during pregnancy, after the first trimester like you mentioned. Oh and I actually got my hair done at a salon at 20ish weeks, still demi/toners and bleach but no bleach on my scalp.

I’ve been having mine dyed with permanent dark brown since 9 weeks and it’s been fine. Baby is measuring perfect. When I have it done, I do wear a mask for ventilation though like a crappy old covid one

Our 12 week scan is tomorrow and I’m absolutely shitting a brick 😬

does anyone else get scanxiety to the extent that they’re overthinking everything ? Like how much should I drink before hand ? When should I wee ? It’s a new hospital for us so where do we park , how do we get to the ultrasound clinic ? I think my brain is sweating the small stuff to distract me from being nervous about the other stuff

Coming up to 36 weeks pregnant and I’m so tired.

At my 20 week scan they were like “There’s a risk she could be small and you’re at risk of preeclampsia because the placenta is inefficient”. Been taking aspirin every night and having growth scans and now they’re like “Yeah she’s growing fine”

But after my last growth scan the other week they were like “Your platelets are low and your ferritin levels are low so need an iron IV and frequent blood tests”.

Saw my midwife today and she’s like “I don’t know why they’re concerned about your platelets, they’re not low enough for me to refer you to a consultant, but if they want to monitor you extra close then fine” and then today there was glucose in my urine sample so got to have a GD test. At 36 weeks pregnant. What is the point at this stage like just leave me alooooooone.

I have a 2 year old so that on top of what feels like whack a mole with pregnancy health conditions is just knackering me. I wanna cry lol

I totally sympathise and am in a similar position. 34 weeks and have a 17 month old. I have never been so tried in my life and have no down time. I booked some days off work when my son is in nursery so I can rest but like you I have had concerns with my pregnancy and have had to go to extra appointments, some of which have been/ will be on my days off.

It’s so annoying! My son is in nursery on the morning of one of my non-working days and at the start I was like this is amazing I get half a day to myself and to get sorted for Baby Girl but then physio appointments for PGP, perinatal mental health/talking therapies phone appointments, midwife appointments, or hospital appointments have all filled that time. It’s knackering.

Sending you love and hugs and one coffee a day to get you through ❤❤❤❤
