Honestly I know
Love this idea, going to start telling baby good work whenever I feel them move 😂 I’m really trying to enjoy pregnancy as we don’t even know if we’ll have another yet (and if we do it’ll have to be starting to try again straight after this one because I am almost 39 as it is!) but I’m always so worried 😅 I also feel (for no reason at all) that every time we get a baby thing or get more stuff given to us by my brother as they’re finished with babies, I’m somehow tempting fate? I think I rail so hard against the “it won’t happen to me” or like “it happens to so few women/babies” idea that instead I think every bad thing that *could* happen to me or to baby probably will happen 😅 need to get my positive pants on…and baby just needs to have a bit of a wriggle about this morning so I can stop worrying! I am trying to be rational because last time we went to triage after I didn’t feel baby for 24 hours the midwife told us it was the strongest heartbeat she’d heard all day and that we should record it - the video though is sadly on mr amarantine’s phone and waking him up to watch that seems a bit unreasonable on a Sunday morning 😅
Honestly, I really do know exactly how you feel. When I fell pregnant I felt like I couldn’t get too excited because that would “jinx” things. I really only started to feel ‘oh wait I can buy a couple of baby bits and get excited’ about 2 months ago when movements became much more regular. Even now I have that tiny voice that goes ‘hey now don’t you start tempting fate!’ So the forcing myself to have a bit of positivity is helping and helping me bond with bump. I turned 41 this year so I think that’s had a huge part in me feeling that things are too good to be true. It’s a big struggle for me to lean into the “hippy” side and show gratitude because I feel silly and then panic that the universe might think I’m smug so do something “bad” - it’s all sadly just a defence mechanism that my brain has defaulted to and trying to change that after 31 years of being that way is very hard and it feels fake but annoyingly it does help. ❤

I’ve created a new thread and I even managed to whack a poll in so I’m feeling really smart.

Has anyone used the tutti bambini cozee?

We had the Snuzpod next to me last time but it made me feel so claustrophobic so I wanted something different. I should have kept it but I just couldn’t wait to get rid of it.

My first loved their borrowed cheapie Joie bouncer so this time I splashed out on the Baby Bjorn - baby wasn't interested at all  They were a un-putdown-able velcro baby from day one so had I have waited I may not have bothered. Definitely think it's good to do the research before they arrive and you have the time but if it's not something you need from birth, hold off buying. Also you don't waste your warranty period that way for electrical stuff.

I found a weighted blanket and magnesium tablets really helped with crampy restless legs.

Re highchairs, we like Ikea too but whatever you buy don't go for something with really splayed legs. They're such a pain in the arse, total trip hazard and take up a ton of space.
Ohhhh good point! The thing I liked about the really fancy all in one things was you can fold them up to store them. My dining room is quite small/has quite a lot of furniture in it. Oooh, decisions decisions!

I had the worst insomnia when I was pregnant. I eventually would just give up with it and go downstairs and watch TV/read (and often have toast as I was usually ravenous too!) it did ease off. I truly think it’s your body’s way of preparing you for no sleep 😅
Haha this is what I have also decided - least I’ll be ready come December when baby is here 😂 the only time I feel them moving at all is when I wake up in the middle of the night, then I worry all day when I barely feel anything but I am only just over 20 weeks…

My sinuses have reverted back to their first trimester state of being blocked, snotty and blood-streaked, although slightly less so than the first trimester. As long as the extreme tiredness doesn’t come back I’ll be ok! Can’t lie, I am tired though, but it’s from having to move my massive body about 🤣 first trimester I was just tired, the most tired I’ve ever felt!
I’m exhausted and so big! I keep waking up at 3/4am and not being able to go back to sleep.

I’ve had horrid indigestion all day. Went out for dinner last night and probably overdid the portion control but it wasn’t particularly rich or spicy. I actually had a couple of Rennies earlier because it was bothering me so much, and I absolutely hate the texture of Rennies.

@ahtisyourself we went to a pram superstore place that probably sold every single type on the market. We had a type in mind (all terrain) and asked to see the Mamas & Papas Ocarro then asked to see any other all terrain system they recommended (it’s an independent place). Won’t lie, the all terrain ones are heavy, we just decided it might work best for the various places we will go. They had lots of systems that reckoned they were designed for city/urban life etc. as well. So, we got all of the all terrain ones demonstrated to us then went back round them and had a go ourselves at changing the things over and collapsing it, rebuilding it and pushing it around the shop. We of course have settled on a brutally expensive one that only came out this year so isn’t available second hand yet (Maxi-Cosi Fame). Typical. I did have a ‘I am overwhelmed and I don’t know what I’m doing here’ meltdown in the shop but we were browsing by ourselves initially and as soon as we spoke to an assistant I got over myself. They were not remotely pushy in there either.

I had decided a hi-lo chair was going to be a godsend and was eyeing up the Mamas and Papas Eno, which is crazy money at £350 but is supposed to last in various shapes for years and if we buy the pram we like from Mamas and Papas we will actually get money off other items in there so it would make the Eno affordable. But my sister in law had said to MrDragName that weaning and introducing food was a very messy business and they quickly sold their fancy chair for the Ikea £13 all plastic thing that can be fully wiped cleaned as she has memories of hours spent scrubbing the fabric parts of their old high chair. This has got me thinking. What I wanted was:

-something suitable from birth and onwards (I feel better about expensive purchases if they are at least designed to be used for years, even though there’s a risk my son will hate whatever we get)
-something he can recline in both on the floor and higher up in the hope he can be part of our mealtimes/knock about in the kitchen with me safely/have something to be in in the front room that’s not just a Moses basket or bassinet or play mat.
-something that will become a high chair for feeding in future years. Some models even convert to a little play table and chair to last even longer which is cool but not as necessary.

Now I’m wondering if this is daft. Happy to get a total wipe clean high chair, but what can I stick the boy wonder in from birth/early weeks that will allow him to be close to me whilst I’m doing stuff but not necessarily in a carry/papoose thing? Any thoughts? Am I kidding myself that I will ever get to eat my dinner with two hands and without a child on me? Haha.
Have you looked at the Tripp Trapp? Sounds like it would suit your needs and can often be found pre-loved for a reasonable price.

First sweep today. Had a bloody show this morning and was expecting positive news at sweep but only 2cm and head is not far down enough to press on cervix yet. Booooooo
I’ve literally just had the bloody show! I’m right there with you haha :) when was/is your due date again? The hospital had me as 21/6 but when I found out I was pregnant I used my exact dates as 24/6 so will be interesting to see what happens tomorrow! All the best to you ❤

Placenta is on the back wall so that’s not affecting it, only thing I do know about it is that it is slightly low but my midwife says it’s not uncommon and in most cases the uterus will stretch and grow enough for it to correct itself. I think it’s just still early and I’m on my feet a lot so don’t have much opportunity to feel baby move! I think also there is so much information out there that this is almost too much and it’s so hard to filter out the “right” stuff. I do tend to go to worst case too so knowing that if I haven’t felt it much by 24 weeks I need to let maternity triage know has me convinced that will be me. Pregnancy as an overthinker is exhausting 😅
If you’re seeing the midwife at 24 weeks that’s a good time to talk it through. I think that’s when they try the doppler for the first time as well (this is when my own son decided to be a cheeky devil and avoid the doppler. He is now too big to avoid it though!). I remember describing everything I felt at that appt because I still wasn’t sure! What @lilykestrel said she saw in the clinic about movement makes so much sense to me now and explains why I have my weekend worries because that’s personally when I’m active because I have a desk job!
Yes, pregnancy as an overthinker is completely exhausting! I agree!

Has anyone been referred to fetal medicine? Had a rescan today (22weeks) and looks like babys kidneys arent working as they should be. They can’t say what it is so have no reassurance in researching it😫

I’m still none the wiser in regards to prams. Had a go of the Doona over the weekend and while it’s a nippy little fecker which I like, my 6 foot 5 partner looks utterly ridiculous pushing it and I don’t look the finest pushing it either. Why is it so dinky?!? It’s what I’m after in terms of being practical, nifty and handy.. but a bit too daft looking and baby is all the way down there which I don’t like. Basically I’m looking for something like that but not that 😆 I’m not too bothered about having a system that converts into a pushchair as I plan on getting a pushchair separately when the time comes. I just need something nippy to run around with, light on the ground and small enough wheels; why is this so hard? Why does everything have forty different contraptions and cost 5 million euros? I don’t need something to do me to see the child off to college in like! Just something handy for the newborn walks that doesn’t weigh a tonne. I’m stumped.

Absolutely shocking! I’ve been told none of this stuff. They don’t mention my age or my size (I am larger than you for sure). In fact, I have only gained basically the textbook amount of weight that a pregnant woman would gain due to all the extra stuff. I had an early report from the obstetrician that said I should have delivered by 40+6 with sweeps from 39 weeks but I’ve had zero reason to see him and Ive had perfect checks every time they’ve check urine and bp and the Boy, so I am pretty sure if I was adamant I wanted to wait that there would be very little pushback. The only time I’ll be seeing a Dr is if the boy is still breech next week because we’ll have to talk CSV v c-section and etc. I would like to deliver naturally and I’d like to not be induced if I can help it, or at least not have to make an early decision on this, but I won’t attempt to deliver a breech baby naturally because that feels a bit risky. They talked about the injection thing at my antenatal class yesterday but it seemed like it’s recommended only for quite specific things, though you can ask for it. They seem very ‘everything is your choice’ in my trust. Almost too much maybe, haha, but you have the right to push back against everything and ask for all the information to make an informed decision. Was this your birth plan appt? Mine happens after my final growth scan so maybe I’ll get hit with all this stuff then, I really hope not though!
I’ve just seen so many different people. So a lot of different personalities. This app was with obstretics (whatever that means) it just really bothered me because I was like this isn’t my first birth which I understand no two pregnancies and births are the same but I had no complications last time but it feels like because I’m 4 years older it’s like this massive deal. I’ve had protein and white blood cells in my urine tests regularly but they’ve all been sent off and no one seems so worried as I’ve not heard anything from them. I just felt a bit blind sided - especially given I had a growth scan last week and all was well (the fibroid I have hasn’t grown but it is on the large side but the sonographer said it’s out of the way and it hasn’t increased in size since my first scan so she’s not concerned) part of me feels like they tell you one thing in person and maybe write other things in notes just so they cover their bums. I dunno. Just feeling a bit deflated - we had some really stressful news a couple of months ago and I’ve been dealing with that on top of pregnancy which has meant I haven’t really been able to think too far in advance because the rug has been pulled from under us and all the plans we did have are all on pause for an indefinite amount of time. And my own self consciousness just feels like because I’m over a size 12 I need to be excellent at pregnancy because you’re just judged if your bmi is high. Blah.

Silly question but one that has bamboozled me;

baby grows for the going home outfit…. Our baby girl is going to be on the smaller side when born…predict around 6lbs and a couple of oz but all the baby grows I’ve looked at at for babies 7.5lbs plus.

Does it matter? As in will the average baby grow for a newborn just be way too big? Or it’s fine?
If not fine I can’t find any smaller baby grows. Any suggestions would be great x

I think I had my booking appt around 8 weeks and it was about a week after that they sent me through the letter with the appt for the scan. Everything is still paper records here though 😂 but I think it gets triggered/booked after you have the booking appt with the midwife.

Tenderly popping in here to say hi. I'm about 6weeks and 2days and incredibly nervous. Sickness has kicked in big time and I've struggled to keep much down the past few days, although I've just managed to eat cold McDonald's chips, which I'm taking as a win. Has anyone had a private reassurance scan at around 7weeks and can tell me how they found it and what they saw? ❤
I thought I was 7 weeks but was actually 6. I saw a smudge that did not remotely resemble a baby, but it was a smudge with a heartbeat that was grooving away quite happily and there was enough going on that the sonographer could tell things were as ok as they possibly could be at that point. It would have been cool to have seen more than that but it was still extremely special. And welcome! Sorry the sickness is so tough on you. I only had nausea rather than full on sickness, nibbling little and often helped me but that’s probably shit advice when you’re being sick.

I had this same issue this week like what do I do, I’ve opted for 7 months off but using a months annual leave within that
I think it depends on what you want time off wise and how long off you want xx
I just can’t decide at all, which is totally useless and means nobody can help me 🤣. I think I want as much time with the baby as possible but we don’t have unlimited funds and I forgot to buy a Euromillions ticket tonight so that plan is out the window! I’ve opted for the full 52 weeks without really understanding if ifs affordable. I think it is because we’re reasonably lucky that our mortgage isn’t too crazy and I will obviously save a tonne in travel costs etc but the thought of having basically no income of my own is crazy to me. I have no idea how I’m going to cope with work and a very small child so I think holding on to lots of annual leave to do a phased return/work ‘part time’ could be really handy, especially as I don’t want to make big decisions about my role and/or how many hours I work till I really see what it’s like. I don’t even know what childcare options exist for a small child or the costs (I’m in for such a shock aren’t I?! I feel so clueless. Who has allowed me to get pregnant?!) I’m reluctant to ‘use up’ all my leave in case I need to wind myself down a bit earlier than intended as well. It’s a 2 hour round commute most days (supposed to be 40 mins each way but there is always traffic/roadworks/something) and whilst it’s predominantly desk based it’s senior management and it has been tough going this year, and I don’t know if I really have it in me to go on as long as I want to, though it’s too early to really tell right now! I checked ACAS and I can amend my return with 8 weeks’ notice which could include going ‘take me off mat leave on X date but stick me on annual leave for however many days/weeks.’ If I want to be earning full pay again sooner.

My ‘boss’ (I report to a board) is an HR expert and could not be more chilled out about all of this, which is a total dream, but it’s more that I just want to map everything out and know exactly what’s happening but pregnancy and babies just don’t lend themselves to the sort of meticulous plan I’m after!
