Is this true? I was going to get my nails done this weekend 🫣
ideally not so they can monitor oxygen levels as the probe doesn’t always pick it up through polish/acrylics. But It can be repositioned (although this is less accurate), or we use toes or ears if what’s on your nails can’t be removed easily. A planned section you may be asked not to have nails done but in an emergency it’s the same as any other surgical emergency and is managed with what we have in front of us and nails are normally a very minor problem 🤣

Me again🤣 I had gels on my nails, try not to sweat the small stuff XX

think of it as if you randomly went in today and suddenly needed a c section versus something you’re planning for. They have to perform emergency surgery in all sorts of situations, they’re not going to turn you away at theatre doors for having your nails done.
If you’re explicitly asked in advance not to do things then of course don’t go against advice, but if you went into labour right this second you wouldn’t necessarily have time to be thinking about unscrewing your bracelet, taking off your nails etc X

I think you guys are right, I’m probably overthinking everything 🤣 getting to the end now and I’m trying to sort everything out. Was hoping to get started on my birth plan today but don’t even know where to start!

I’m having an elective c section and gutted as they’ve told me no to acrylics. It sounds silly but I wanted my nails done as it’s just a small thing to make me feel a little more me.

Planned c-sections advice was no polish on hands or toes, don’t wax or shave and no fake tan!

I had builder gel done on my nails the Saturday before I had my elective c-section - I was told by a midwife that pale, light colours don’t affect the oxygen monitor. So pale pink it was. 😂 Didn’t cause a problem at all.

My 2 biggest learnings from my first birth was to not get your heart set on anything as so much is out of control and it can just lead to a lot of disappointment. Secondly make sure your birth partner is crystal clear on your preferences so that they can advocate for you if and when you’re not able to. My husband was absolutely brilliant at the point where I lost my head and managed to get me some pain relief when I was being refused it initially and I didn’t want to make a fuss.

My loose plan this time is ideally I’d like to give birth at the birthing centre and avoid epidural this time. However if I need inducing again epidural will be on my birth plan!

Getting my breathing right really helped me up to a point so I’ve downloaded an app (Freya) to support me with this

I was given a special shower gel for the night before and in the morning I was told not to wear perfume or makeup.

Thank you for the advice, I read somewhere to write 2 birth plans, one is your ideal birth, how you’d like it to go, your preferences etc. And the next plan is things you would accept - essentially in an emergency I’d accept anything to keep us both alive. I know the birth may not go my way, but as long as me and baby make it to the other side safely, that’s all that matters ❤

My ideal birth would be, I sneeze and the baby comes out, no pain, breastfeeding is super easy and I go back to my pre pregnancy weight within the week 🤣🙏🏼

Anyone got a weird vibration sensation bottom of the stomach? Can’t tell if it’s baby moving, my own pulse or what it is? It’s constant
I’m 25 weeks tomorrow! I feel baby kick normally and also have an anterior placenta

I thought I’d felt the baby move the other night. I’ve never really been sure so far. It felt like I was being poked with a finger from the inside, and it happened a few times through the night in different parts of my lower stomach. Then, it other night it happened once so I put my hand in place to try feel something and really concentrated, but nothing since. I’m not worried as such, I’m just keen to be more in the know about what are definitely movements!

Sounds like it to me! I’ve been getting bigger kicks and rolls this week - a few mr muffet could feel with his hand on my tummy too. But this is my second and I don’t have an anterior placenta this time.

Hello all!
36 weeks today, I’ve had to go ahead from midwife to start colostrum harvesting. My first baby was born in one of the covid lockdowns, my appointments were always rushed and with different midwives each time so I didn’t really understand the benefits of colostrum harvesting and had no support with breast feeding so I was straight to formula- which we actually had no issues with and have a wonderfully healthy toddler!

Has anyone else had any success with collecting? I didn’t get much today and a bit disheartened, probably just overthinking about my last experience. Is it something that’s going to increase in time? I’m not going to stress too much about it as I got by without last time but really just wanted to give it a good go!

I never got any until he came , and midwives helped me get colostrum much better than they did because it's really hard!
Any few drops is a success 😀

I never got anything! Don’t underestimate how long you need to massage/stimulate for first though.

I’ve been doing it since around week 36 too and things I’ve learned:
- you need to be properly relaxed, I noticed that when I’ve been tense it’s not worked as well. Try different times of day.
- don’t skip the gentle kneading bit at the start, 3-4 mins minimum.
- it’s easier to use the little cups than using the syringes directly.
- it starts off with a little but increases over time so don’t expect loads the first few times. I think I began collecting less than 0.4ml, but now can get over 1.5ml.

The key thing to remember though that the Breastfeeding Network, my midwife, and NCT have said really clearly is that it doesn’t work for everyone but this isn’t an indication of future ability to breastfeed, so if it doesn’t work for you - don’t stress. It’s just a bonus.

Does the harvesting encourage your milk flow?
