I’m just going to quietly squeeze in over here . I’ve got my first antenatal appointment next week but have been given little information and thought about questions after.
Do I need to completely fast for it? I understand she’ll be taking bloods. Also, has anyone used HeyBaby for early scans? They’re the nearest to me and I can’t wait around for 12 weeks to see this dumpling.

congratulations! I know how long you have been waiting for this seeing you over on the ttc threads and hope you have a healthy pregnancy in my experience you only need to fast for the glucose tolerance test which isn’t until you’re in your 2nd trimester. They may not take bloods straight away at your appt but instead organise for you to have a blood test soon. How far Along are you?

Thanks very much, it’s been a while. I’m in my sixth week so still very early but so far, so good. Due at the end of December so going to push for an elective for selfish reasons
I believe she’s taking bloods due to something she said about one of my hospital options needing to retake blood work if I choose them. I may drive there empty stomached with snacks in tow, just in case.

You shouldn't need to fast for the blood tests. They'll be to check things like whether you're rhesus positive or negative, blood type, iron levels ect
So you should be fine

39+4 and been up all night with diarrhoea and sickness (sorry tmi) more of an acid reflux sick and now my throat is burning…. When does it endddddd I can’t wait to not be pregnant again

Has anyone on here have o negative blood or negative blood that can help a worried mind about what it all means.
Im pregnant with my 1st, 17 weeks. Ive already had those awful conversations from midwife's saying, as your over 30 (32), high bmi, short in height and 1st child, your classed as high risk and now my blood type is against me.

My midwife appt last week mentioned my bloods but just said we have to monitor you more and it could mean i will struggle to have babies later on. At first i didnt take it all in as i was having bloods done and they always struggle to find veins so my brain went to that part.
It wasnt until i left that i realised should i be concerned and then stupidly googled what it could be and now im freaked out. Should i be worried as my parter is positive blood type.
It mentions rhesus and injections and mit. Im the first out of my friends to have a baby so have no support so relying on help from strangers on tattle.
Just when my morning sickness has calmed down, i can finally eat food without spending the whole day being sick and now this.

You shouldn't need to fast for the blood tests. They'll be to check things like whether you're rhesus positive or negative, blood type, iron levels ect
So you should be fine

I had my first appointment on Wednesday, my midwife didn’t tell me to fast for the bloods she just said don’t wee before I come before they will need a urine sample! We didn’t use HeyBaby but used one local to us because we couldn’t wait for 12 weeks either highly recommend the early scan though makes it feel so real and it’s reassuring

We’ve used HeyBaby for a few scans, amazing experience. We had one at 6 weeks, one at 9, a gender/well-being one at 16 and then our 4D at 28ish I think it was.

That’s really helpful, thank you. How lovely, are you far along? I’m considering booking one at 9 weeks as I’m going to visit my parents soon after and it would be good to have a visual representation for them to look at while they pick their jaws off the floor.

9 weeks! We had the scan last week at 8 weeks! Yeah that’s why we originally booked it so we could have a photo to show but I caved and told my parents at 5 weeks we showed my in laws the photo still though so it’s nice to have!

Thanks, it’s lovely to see so many names from the ttc thread. After two false starts I’m incredibly apprehensive but I’m doing all I can so all I can do is countdown the weeks. Dreading telling people though, I hate being in the spotlight. Does HeyBaby do vaginal scans if necessary? I have stomach large so I think they may struggle to get a clear image.

Quite a few people on here have been negative. It's 1 in 6 or 7 i think that have it. So it's not uncommon.
It basically means that at some point, you will have an injection (possibly several) during pregnancy to pretect you from babies blood cells as there's a chance baby will be positive. (think it's around 28 weeks)
I believe it's very rare for it to affect your first pregnancy and providing you get the injections, it's even rarer
If you have a fall or accident or anything like that, theyll give you an injection too.

I believe you then get another injection after birth.

I don't know much about how they go about it with a second child when you're negative but I have several friends who are, who have multiple children.

She’s completely wrong about struggling to have babies later on? Not one midwife or doctor said that to me.
It can only affect future pregnancies IF they don’t know and don’t provide you with the injections etc.
It’s to do with your body making antibodies against future pregnancies where baby has a different blood type (sees it as a foreign object to get rid of). BUT that’s why they give you anti d throughout your pregnancy & after birth to prevent this happening. It almost acts like a barrier.

She shouldn’t have scared you like that, very unprofessional!!
I’ve given birth a few weeks ago and also rhesus negative, baby was positive as is my partner. No issues at all!
Had 2 injections during my pregnancy, 1 regular one at 20/30ish weeks then another because I had a small bit of blood about the size of a tiny raisin (nothing to do with my blood type just one of those things).
And they gave me one before I went home after birth. Absolute fine and normal. I only got told “don’t get pregnant for 18months” as I had a C-section - no mention of my blood type at all.
Honestly do not let this stress you out it’s so normal & common. You should have a sticker on your hospital notebook with ‘RHESUS NEGATIVE’ on- if you don’t then ask for one.

They do when you book the scan they’ll get you to sign a consent form to say you’re happy for a vaginal scan if needed. We were right on the cusp of needing one with how early it was but they managed to see baby and cardiac activity on an abdominal scan. They couldn’t see my ovaries though because I had too much bowel gas - they wrote that on the report too, how embarrassing!!

Baby Bandit was born at 3.29 this morning weighing 8lbs and he's perfect it was a stressful birth with lots of issues cropping up which culminated in me only having gas and air and paracetamol despite requesting pethidine and/or an epidural - labour was really quick but felt like it took forever!! I'm now enjoying snuffly newborn cuddles in the postnatal ward, and feel surprisingly good despite no sleep and an episiotomy! I can't believe this is real and he's finally here

Baby Bandit was born at 3.29 this morning weighing 8lbs and he's perfect it was a stressful birth with lots of issues cropping up which culminated in me only having gas and air and paracetamol despite requesting pethidine and/or an epidural - labour was really quick but felt like it took forever!! I'm now enjoying snuffly newborn cuddles in the postnatal ward, and feel surprisingly good despite no sleep and an episiotomy! I can't believe this is real and he's finally here

Congratulations, enjoy all the snuggles for what it’s worth I had an episiotomy the first time and felt absolutely ok during recovery. Sending you lots of love xxx

Thanks both! I'm exhausted but love is powering me through today I need to have a birth debrief at some point to help me understand why things happened the way they did, but for now I'm just thrilled he's here despite how painful it was!

I'm 38, slightly overweight, first child and also 17 wks! I have been confirmed to have negative blood. I've only been told that I will need an anti d injection later on, and if I have any knocks/bumps or bleeding I've to go straight to get checked out incase baby is positive. Haven't been told anything else worrying. Midwife said when baby is born they will test cord blood to determine babies blood type and that's it. No issues with baby being different blood type.
