Hope no one minds me joining in. I am 7 weeks today (first pregnancy) and I have an early scan Friday to check heartbeat etc and I told a couple of close friends when I found out and I got a negative response with “oooh you shouldn’t have told people!”, why not? Women should be able to celebrate pregnancy from as soon as they find out, and if the worst happens it should also be encouraged to talk about. It’s nothing to be ashamed off and there’s still a massive stigma about not telling people and that annoys me. Why suffer in silence? It should be talked about openly and support groups encouraged.

@SkinnyTurkeyDinosaur I hope you are okay, let us all know xxx
I tell the people who I would want to know if the worst happens. So family, close friends. It’s not like by keeping it a secret you in anyway affect the outcome, and having support during early pregnancy can be so important, even if the pregnancy continues.

I hope you are keeping well x

I agree. I don't think it should be hidden at all. If you want to tell people then do it.
Telling people isn't going to increase your chances of a miscarriage or something!
If anything, it means you'll have better support if something happens!

So true.

My very first pregnancy I started to miscarry at 6 weeks. My brother is a dr and was working in the maternity unit at the time so he very kindly came and took me to his hospital one evening so I could be seen without an appointment.

However, he then gave me the worst piece of advice I’ve ever received. I hadn’t told anyone else about the pregnancy as I had only known myself 2 days. And he told me “Don’t tell mum about this.”

I trusted he knew best so I didn’t and spent a very long week with very little support. I don’t know why he told me that - maybe because our mum has her share of mental health issues and he thought she wouldn’t be able to cope? I dunno. But worst advice EVER. I told her 5 days later when I went back and they confirmed it wasn’t a viable pregnancy, and she was straight round to me.

Anyway, so tell whoever you like. Just in case you need them.

Aw wow. Yeah maybe he was just looking out for your Mum but at the same time, you need the support. I think that is something some Males forget.
I was lucky my partner was supportive.
But my friend had a similar situation and her partner just didn't get why she was so upset about it.

I told people straight away because I wanted to and knew I would be willing to be open with them had I miscarried. It’s a very old fashioned thing I think linked to “shame” surrounding baby loss. It is of course down to personal choice and some people are very private, some people are superstitious, some people are cautious and some people just want to follow tradition. No one should be blasted for telling people when they want!

Thank you so much everyone on here for being so lovely and I don't think I would've even went hospital if it wasn't for people on here being like you should go. I got to the hospital at 10.30 last night and didn't get out until 5am, after a lot of tests, had a drip, they checked me down there. The doctor said it is a early miscarriage and I just need to go home and rest, take tablets for the pain and it shouldnt be as bad in a few days and the stress not eating and everything will be affecting me a lot as well. So I then had to go speak to a psychologist cos they were worried about me because I was just so stressed, tired, confused, crying I kept having to ask them to repeat everything they just said. Then he said I could leave and it was 5am I had no one with me and no way of getting home cos I didn't want to phone and ask anyone because I'd wake them up, first bus wasn't until 7 and I explained to the security guy can I just sit inside here I've been seen but it's so cold and I'm in so much pain because the seats outside is so uncomfortable and I need to charge my phone and he was like no we can't have you inside here if youve been seen because of coronavirus so I was just standing outside for two hours crying in pain then got the bus at seven, got home at eight and went to sleep for a bit so just thought I'd let you all know that I'm okay at least I went to the hospital so I know now although it was really hard and I still feel so awful and in pain the now but I will be fine soon hopefully Xx

Oh my sweetheart I’m so so sorry. I’m sorry for your loss but also that you were alone and cold and confused. It really breaks my heart to know you were all by yourself. Are you still by yourself?
I don’t know what to say, Iv got no words of advice because I can’t even imagine how you must feel. All I know is that you haven’t left my thoughts all day long.
Just keep resting like they said, and make sure you don’t over do anything. I suppose at least you know now, and you can focus on feeling physically better. You can always pop on here and let your feelings out if it helps. Don’t bottle them up.
I’m really at a loss as what to say other than, I know I don’t know you, but I truly am here for you and sending love your way xxx

Sending you so much love, I can't imagine what you're going through but please remember there is nothing you could have done to prevent this. It's unfair and a horrible time and you're not just going to feel better overnight but just go easy on yourself.

Thank you I was really blaming myself for drinking a lot a couple weeks ago but I didn't even know I was pregnant then and getting myself so stressed about things but I know there's nothing can do now so no point doing that xx

I’ve not yet commented @SkinnyTurkeyDinosaur but have been following your story.

I’m so sorry to hear about this and also the fact that you couldn’t even wait inside in the warm. I was reading thinking he’d have been kind and given you a lift home 😢

I’m pleased your friend is with you now.

Take care x

I'm so so sorry @SkinnyTurkeyDinosaur I hope that you are feeling looked after now. How awful that you were left on your own so upset and cold. Surely the security guard could have done more to help you, even arranged you a taxi or something. It doesn't sit right with me to leave you so cold and upset all by yourself.

Take it easy and rest up, there is no rule book on how to deal with this situation. Take care hun and we are all here x

I found. Out yesterday at an emergency scan that my baby didn’t develop and I just have a sack measuring 9 weeks. I’m currently waiting for it to pass.
No one should go through that alone. Sorry you weren’t treated better at the hospital. Sending you lots of love and like I’ve said if you wanna chat rant or vent. I’m here 💜

So, so sorry for your loss @SkinnyTurkeyDinosaur, really feeling for you. So glad your friend is with you now. Take it easy for a while and a while longer if you feel you need to, you need to nourish yourself and be good to yourself and rest as much as you can. This absolutely isn’t your fault and I’m so sorry this is happening. Sending you love, strength and healing xxx

Oh love 😔 I am so sorry! To go through that alone must have been so difficult. A little empathy from the security guard would have been nice! I'm glad you have some support now. ❤

Please be assured this isn’t down to your drinking or any of your doing.
You’d unlikely have shared a blood supply yet even so it wouldn’t have possibly reached them. Not to mention, Alcoholics and drug addicts give birth to babies every day. So many people drink before they know they are pregnant; there are even reports of girls drinking and smoking purposely because they think ‘low birth weight’ means an easier labour. I understand this can make it feel even more unfair but I want you to know this isn’t your fault.

I’m so sorry you are going through this, and the other ladies experiencing a loss too, I’m so, so sad for you. Sending you lots of love xx

im so sorry, this happened to me too, it was my second pregnancy, second miscarriage, I was supposed to be 11 weeks pregnant, had no indication at all that anything was wrong, had clearly positive tests, no bleeding or anything, until I started spotting with back ache at 11 weeks, went for a scan which showed there wasn’t even a foetus there, just an empty sac and a placenta, it just felt like such a kick in the teeth, I felt embarrassed that I’d talked about baby names and imagined if it was a boy or a girl, miscarriage stirs up lots of awful emotions for a long time, my third time lucky pregnancy I made sure I got myself a private scan at 8 weeks to check there was even a baby there! Hope your recovery goes well x
