I know this opinion won't be popular but I've felt for ages that ITVs daytime schedule needs a good overhaul, Lorraine then This morning then Loose women it's like one big clique, no diversity no choice for the viewer it just never ends month after month why can't they change it up totally, the BBC have Victoria Derbyshire and around that on both sides a nice turn over of different programmes through out the daytime schedule , I find ITV so tacky there I said it don't kill me

Completely agree, just find from Lorraine to Loose Women feels like the same extended show. I do like Piers,Rylan,Alison and Eamonn. Alice Beer and Dr Ranj are my favourites.

If it’s of no surprise to anyone, they’ve all suspected for some time - This Morning staff, family etc why the need to make an announcement ? I can only imagine there is / was a story about to break but that story must have more than PS is gay - it surely has specifics - relationships etc

I think it will be interesting to see which Sunday paper runs the interview tomorrow.

If it's The Sun on Sunday then I'd definitely suspect an "outing" of some kind was in the offing. It just reeks of James Grant's style.

The Sun were the ones that Ant gave the interviews to after his first rehab and again after the drink driving and rehab. And that was allegedly a trade off to stop the family friendly career ending stuff coming out (that he's actually a massive cokehead)

I was just looking through JG's client list - it's virtually everyone from ITV!

The JG gang is ant and Dec, Phil, holly, Gino etc isn’t it. The ones who all hang out together socially too.

After award shows they used to always go back to ant and Decs houses for parties, never to clubs/ bars etc
Which I always assumed was because they can do what they want as they are all in the gang and no chance of getting photo’ed etc.

That's why you don't see anyone different presenting on ITV.

It's part of the reason why ITV is so boring. A lot of its' programmes are past their sell by date, but each year they are brought back with the same old faces. When a new programme is launched, you know it's going to be Schofield or Willoughby presenting it. This completely overblown 'coming out' announcement was contrived both to save 'This Morning' and Schofield's career. The only positive thing to come out of the Barrymore saga was that it got him and his corny out of date patter off the tv.

I have to deal with James Grant for work and can confirm that they are all awful, money grabbing, rude, arrogant arseholes.
Thankfully it is only a tiny part of my work but definitely the worst.

ITV has always been quick to stamp out suggestions that Phillip Schofield is anything other than a charming silver fox who the housewives all adore – but they don't seem to be doing a great job of stemming the recent tide of negative tabloid reporting.

Insiders at ITV say the reason they're struggling to contain the story is because their daytime TV department is in absolute freefall behind the scenes and they kind of have their hands full.

Multiple complaints have been filed this year about a wider culture of workplace bullying – some against talent, others against bosses – but complainants were all asked to kindly button their lips while the top brass looked into them. It seems that no-one's heard anything more about it since, not even star talent like Amanda Holden and Ruth Langsford. So lips are being unbuttoned again.

Which would explain why so many people have ended up speaking to the press all at once. And why 'unearthed' clips of Schofe and Langsford from April are suddenly making headlines in December.

After the fall of Jeremy Kyle and his show, I’m not surprised the rest of the ITV Daytime dominos are starting to fall. It’s been a stagnant cesspool of the same shit for too long, with no change and allowing a certain culture to be engrained, especially with the “big name talent” having too much power.

ITV could be forced into much needed wholesale change on its Daytime schedule.

Regards to Philip Schofield I just feel ok whatever, but some of the comments on this thread have made me feel so sad for people coming out.
I was fortunate to live in Brighton/Hove for many years growing up and working there. I worked with many gay people and it was just normal society. We had wonderful times working socialising and I’m going back many many years ago.
It’s just unbelievable that there are still other places in this country that are still so bloody ignorant.

As I've said already, I'd love to know what the big bust up was all about. The Mirror covered the story last year about MM being moved to Loose Women. Why would a newspaper cover an unknown staffer unless they were alluding to something.

I swear I’ve read before that a ‘tell’ sign that someone isn’t speaking the truth, is when their body language is the exact opposite of what they are saying.

I was reminded of it as I cringed through that self-indulgent segment on This Morning and PS said to Holly, “it was entirely my decision” (to come out now) while shaking his head.

and incidentally, Ruth seems genuinely to be holding his hand, and supportive in her body language (turned towards, not away from him) so either it’s bygones or their tiff was blown way out of proportion... or didn’t exist.

Their tiff certainly did exist. Ruth made a formal complaint about PS to ITV.

Not really comfortable with the immense admiration, "so brave" etc. He would have been brave 30 years ago, but instead he choose to use a woman, who likely wasn't consenting just to be a "beard", whereas she went into things thinking it was a genuine romantic relationship. He has claimed the public narrative to distance it away from the bullying allegations, and made public with such fanfare something that today is so mundane. His poor wife is basically limited to showing how "supportive" she is. else she be accused on intolerance, despite her being lied to and used for public image because Schoff, couldn't be brave to come out, or at least not drag a woman into his insecurities like this.

Think this is something prominent LGB spokespeople need to have a word with themselves about, it's not right to marry someone of the opposite sex, to use them for public image, to have children etc when they believe the relationship is a genuine het one. Even if we could understand reasoning why he would have been scared to be himself openly at the time, doesn't make it right. He should have just quietly divorced his wife, and gave her some dignity, instead of splashing this on the media whilst still being married.

I think this too there are many many brave gay people who have spent their life fighting for equality and the stigma to be removed from the media, these are the brave ones.
I actually think he’s a coward and a deceitful coward at that... I’m pretty sure the wife knew from the very beginning and was happy to play along for her own reasons but he’s still lived in a marriage of mutual convenience for a considerable length of time...
I’m not doubting they’ve share a love of friendship and companionship and have probably had a very happy “marriage of convenience” but he‘s hidden from the truth that’s not brave at all it’s selfish.

I said it on another thread a few months ago and I still think it now, TM should have a cohort of presenters and change it up everyday; no one is bigger than the show itself that way and it'd be more about the content, guests etc than the presenters!

My sister was in the audience for celeb juice a few years ago and said Ferne was absolutely lovely but Holly was a stuck up bitch who just sat downing glasses of wine.

Ferne and her used to be best friends but you never hear of them together or talking anymore... I think its because Holly turned into a bitch once she got on TM. Did she ditch Ferne for Phil or did Ferne walk away from the friendship?

Oooh, yes, they both used to talk a lot about their friendship and also telling that Holly has never been on Fearne's Happy Place podcast. Definitely something in this!

Moe, I do not think anyone on here is homophobic in the least. There is(are) another issue(s) at play here. Philip coming out publicly yesterday appears to be stage managed. Apparently, it has been well known in television and showbusiness circles for a long time that he is gay, so nobody is shocked. Yesterday's admission came across as a damage limitation exercise orchestrated by ITV and James Grant management who appear to supply most of the presenters on ITV. Philip appeared on a Friday when it is Eamonn and Ruth's slot when he could have spoken out on the Monday to Thursday shows. Why? Either someone was going to out him in the Sunday tabloids and they wanted to get there first. Or, it's a great way of uniting Phil with Eamonn and Ruth on screen to shut down the feud rumours which were very prevalent during the National TV awards the week before. This is a great distraction. I believe the contributors on this site are cynical about the way this episode has been handled rather than being homophobic.
