I find the dramatic way in which newspapers refer to him now to be so bizarre.

“Rare public appearance“ seems a bit off when he was hardly the type of celeb who would turn up at the opening of an envelope at any point in his career.

Obviously something is being hinted at but, at this point, the weird “wink wink, nudge nudge” stuff seems worse than actually violating his privacy and disclosing what is wrong!

I want to know what the issue is because this whole cloak and dagger routine is annoying me now

It's the sort of behaviour you expect of a major Hollywood film start not an out of date out of touch northern comic. Ok keep your private life private but why not just say we have an illness in the family or something like that then surely everyone would just of moved on and forgot about him. At the end of the day he decided he wanted to be a "celebrity" get over yourself.

it’s no big secret. It wasn’t him who was ill, was his wife who had cancer.
Would you mind saying how you know? I've been wondering for years and read all sorts of different 'true' versions? Like others, I don't know what the mystery is all about. He has every right to keep his private life private but it just....well, I don't know what to think but admit to being curious.

I was always under the impression that he’d also had Leukemia at some stage.

The story that went about was that he had a superinjunction about his / his wife's health.

I think that's unlikely, to be honest, but that was the story.

Love that he got done as his idea was stupid. I see his Zoom fun loving mate Jason Mansford last week hinted Peter would be back touring soon. I can't imagine he'd have hinted at it without asking Peter first, so I reckon it's true.

I think on the one hand, his personal life is exactly that, personal and can be kept private if he so wishes. On the other hand, however, he is a public figure, funded by the public so for him to cancel an entire tour disrupting peoples plans I think people deserve to know why.
I sometimes think it's worse to keep it so secret because people go digging and speculating, whereas if he just told people what was wrong he'd receive nothing but support and positivity.

Great, more jokes about garlic bleeping bread.
As I've said before, the issue is that his "observational comedy" was observed in the mid 80s in Bolton. It was barely relevant 20 years ago, let alone now.
