I've not got Car Share DVDs but doubt they're available.

I loved Peter Kay back in the day. It's a shame he seems to be so poe faced these days.

I googled him and expected to be blown away. Am I the only one who thinks he looks totally normal? He's always been big. Paul Ritter unsettled me when I saw him on Friday Night Dinner documentary but PK looks the same.

Based on what I've read and seen, including the transcript, I think there was fault on both sides. The hecklers sound like they were being a PITA to those surrounding them and are likely underplaying just how annoying they were being...or because they were perhaps canned up, their inhibitions were down and they 'don't remember.'

Despite the above, I also think PK went a bit over the top with the 'security arrangements.' He could have said something to the effect of (in his own style- am, just giving the gist, here), 'Calm down. You've had your 15 minutes. Wind it in or we'll be seeing you off!' But no. He gets very personal and quite nasty in reference to how the security guards should deal with it. No need for that, really.

I really want to play the world's smallest violin at the heckler claiming how bruised and battered he was following the 'incident', though. Come on, mate. I can see your 'compo face' in HD.

Definitely agree! I always think PK is the type of bloke who if he wasn’t famous and was a normal person going out with friends on a Friday night his friends would say to the rest of his friends ‘wait ‘til you meet my mate Peter later, he’s a right character’ and by that they mean he’s a twat who will ‘banter’ everyone, ‘joke’ with the serving staff and do something ‘hilarious’ like dance on the bar knocking everyone drinks over and breaking glasses until they’re thrown out then go to a kebab shop make ‘hilarious jokes’ to the staff and be ushered out by everyone else who have to leave the shop saying “he’s drunk mate, he doesn’t mean it” and then be put in a cab and when he’s gone all the blokes turning to the one who invited him like ‘mate...’.

I went with my husband last night - he does look drastically different & it was strange at first sort of accepting it was him. I’ve seen mixed reviews of the show but I absolutely loved it, barely stopped laughing and the ending was brilliant. The bit about his nana really choked me up as well. I don’t know if it’s true about him being ill but it was so good to see him still entertaining and enjoying himself.

I think he is poorly It’s been what, over 2 years now since he cancelled his tour? So I assume treatment etc has been ongoing since then.
I was hoping he would burst back onto tv/ announce something he was doing but I think he’s doing the right thing - maintaining his privacy and doing charity work when he can.

Dave Spikey and Neil Fitzmaurice both wanted it to go on Netflix, but Kay refused - he’s said before he’d rather fans by the DVDs (likely because he makes more from it!)

Same reason you can’t find Carshare on iPlayer.

It would bring a whole new audience to the shows on streaming you can't rely on dvd sales this day and age

He appeared on the last episode of Parkinson with David Beckham and Billy Connolly amongst others and was awful. He completely took over and interrupted everyone else.

He did the same with Car Share. It was two other guys who came up with the idea and plot then went to Peter for help. By the time it went to air, it became Peter Kay's Car Share. Nearly every show he did has other writers helping him, but he takes the credit. The only show he did mostly himself apart from help by Paddy McGuiness was Max and Paddy which many think is his weakest work.

Just to clear this up for you … Car Share was originally written by Paul Coleman, who is the brother of one of Peters close friends. He took the scripts to Peter, who did extensive rewrites and editing, and took the project to the BBC. The only way the BBC would take the project on, was with Peters name attached. He was originally going to Produce rather than star, but, the conditions the BBC put on it was that he was in the lead role. He wasn’t that keen on doing it, but, wanting to help his friends brother out, he agreed to do it. Thus making Paul et al money, but more importantly, opening a lot of doors for them.

His Popbitch defaming story where he tried to sue a theatre chain because they wouldn't give him proceeds from their car park, till they did and it was £1 because the main car park was privatised and he went nuts

We have a family friend who designs sets for films/tv shows. He's met many many A listers, I've even met a couple myself. He still says Peter Kay is the rudest celeb he's ever worked with. Obnoxious and grumpy and full on diva behaviour with everyone on the set

Maybe if he has leukaemia he didn't want the pressure to become some kind of ambassador for cancer charities while, feeling so ill. Being expected to turn up at events all cheery-like when feeling absolutely vile inside, especially if going through chemo. He could afford to step back, financially, so he did. Don't blame him. Joe Longthorne struggled with blood cancer for years and years- really took it out of him, even though he carried on performing as much as he could. PK is much higher profile. Maybe he felt that for his family's sake and his own, stepping back and saying nowt was the best thing to do.

I bloody love PK and I’m not remotely northern haha. Me my brother mum and gran used to cry with laughter watching the live at royal Albert hall dvd every Christmas. Also a huge Phoenix nights fan. My best mate texted me earlier with dates of the new tour being like pleeeease can we go (also a southerner.) don’t think it matters where you’re from; everyone’s gran greets you with ‘guess who’s dead’ and all the other random observational stuff transcends area haha. Really disappointed to see so much evidence of him potentially being twatty

I'm clearly in the minority on here but I can't stand the sight of him anymore.

In the early days, I loved him but then I got sick of hearing the same jokes over and over again together with his overwhelming, childish need to be the centre of attention on anything he appears on - I'm specifically thinking Parkinson, Jonathan Ross and Strictly <shudder> where he completely tried to take over. What an ego. Surprised he didn't insist on his name being in the title

I have long heard the rumours of his nastiness towards fans. I read on a forum ages ago that someone approached him at a garden centre and congratulated him on the birth of his first child and he turned round and said "what the fuck has it got to do with you?" That's when I really turned off him because yes, it must be annoying but there is absolutely no need for that. Rude cunt. You don't mind your fans when they're buying your tour tickets or rehashed DVD's though do you Peter? You need to remember they're the very reason why you live in your big, gated house.

It's no secret Dave Spikey and Neil Fitzmaurice, who worked on Phoenix Nights with him (and apparently wrote most of it) fell out with him. In fact, NF was quoted one time as saying it would be a cold in hell before he would ever work with him again (although I think they have made up and done so - must have needed the cash) According to Sally Lindsay, he was a nightmare when he had that small cameo on Corrie as well - telling the director what to do IIRC.

All that said, I don't wish any kind of illness on him or his family. I'm not surprised at all to learn he's taken out some kind of injunction to stop reporting on whatever it is - the press obviously know (the Daily Mail consistently dance around it) and it is clearly killing them that they can't pursue it any further.

OMG I saw him once on The Jonathan Ross show what a twat pissing about behind the set, not letting the HOST get a word in, Jonathan looked pissed off and I don't blame him.

A lot of successful comedies finish after a couple of series to leave the fans wanting more and to end on a high while it’s still funny. I’m certain in the case of Car Share it’s the same not because he doesn’t care about his fans

I think he is clever ending series at the peak, rather than letting them drag out and fans getting bored. Car share was great and the extra episode tied it up well.

PK on the other hand, is one of those people who is clearly all loveable public image, and after he's gone we'll hear lots about what a knobhead he was in private.

I think there's a lot about what a knobhead he is in private already out there. Fucking loads actually. Popbitch don't think a lot of him for starters

I also think there's been a bit of a backlash after the current/recent tour (have no idea if it's still going on) with people walking out and saying he's just not funny anymore. Even the Daily Mail maniacs have been criticising him (previously unheard of)

The tide is turning and I am here for it. Been here waiting for five years
