Does anyone know what happened between him and Dave spikey? Such a shame the phoenix nights episodes are not more widely available

I've always been of the understanding that Dave and Neil Fitzmaurice wrote most of Phoenix Nights and then felt like PK took all the credit.
Certainly there was a lot of Dave Spikey's material in there that I recognised back to first hearing him on GMR when I was a teenager.

Yeah, that seems to have been what it was. Dave was interviewed once and more or less said it was mostly him and Neil who did the hard work while Peter came in at the end and 'tidied up' yet he got the praise and nominations while Dave and Neil were ignored. Another issue was they wanted to do a S3 or at least a Xmas special but he said nope and moved on to Max and Paddy. They kind of made up back in 2015 when they did the live show, but he has made a few digs at him in recent years which I can't blame if what he is saying is true.

It must kill PK that most of the memorable stuff from Phoenix Nights wasn't his character - the thing that sticks in people's minds are things like Dave singing 'Black Bin Bags' in Asda.

I loved phoenix nights. It’s so well written and I feel that everyone knew someone that was like one of the characters. Well I did anyway. I’m from across the border AKA Yorkshire and grew up in working men’s clubs when my dad wanted a pint and the landlord let us in because he knew us. Miss the 80s and 90s because all those places are disappearing so people’s social hubs are too.

He did the same with Car Share. It was two other guys who came up with the idea and plot then went to Peter for help. By the time it went to air, it became Peter Kay's Car Share. Nearly every show he did has other writers helping him, but he takes the credit. The only show he did mostly himself apart from help by Paddy McGuiness was Max and Paddy which many think is his weakest work.

Both of them have had lots of other successes, I'm sure they're not short of a few bob. It was good to see Dave in Alma'a Not Normal last year. I've got loads of time for him, used to watch his stand up around Manchester when I was a student and he was absolutely brilliant.

PK on the other hand, is one of those people who is clearly all loveable public image, and after he's gone we'll hear lots about what a fool he was in private.

I can't be bothered to find them, but there have been a fair few interviews with Neil Fitzmaurice about what Peter Kay is like and how he uses his legacy to make sure he is the only one that profits from it.....there was a fair bit on a recent Richard Herring interview....

Daniel Kitson who was in PNights hasn't got a good word to say about Peter Kay either.....

'Ere, d'ya remember Phoenix Nights? What were all tha' about?'

Yes, I'd forgotten Daniel Kitson - I lived in Edinburgh for many years and when he'd come up to the Fringe he'd often get asked about Phoenix Nights, he was pretty scathing about Peter Kay.

If you listen to the DVD commentary on Phoenix Nights Peter is vile about him. I’m not quite sure how he got away with it but I’m sure at one point he calls him a shithouse.

I’ve searched high and low to get Phoenix Nights for my son to enjoy, it really is nowhere to be found! Such a shame it’s not available for new generations to enjoy
